Overview
Providing quick access to the spool by simply sliding a lever on the side plate, the Okuma Hakai Casting Reels allow for quick spool tension changes and adjustment of the Velocity Control Centrifugal Braking System. A highly versatile series of baitcasting reels, anglers can alternate lure weights on the fly to find the perfect balance for casting and employ a wide range of fishing techniques. Armed with a Multi-Disk stainless steel and carbon hybrid drag system to deliver 24lbs of smooth and reliable drag, Hakai casting reels feature an oversized 42mm hardened brass main gear for long-lasting performance and smooth balanced retrieves.
Offering the latest in Okuma’s reel technology, Hakai baitcasting reels are made with a ‘LiteCast’ magnesium frame to increase strength while also making them 15% lighter than aluminum alloy reels. The magnesium construction provides a compact body that fits easily into the palm of your hand, and the frame is coated with an innovative corrosion-resistant treatment. Equipped with a universal line diameter indicator, anglers will always know exactly what line is spooled on their reel when they go to pick it up. Designed with Okuma’s ‘Flite Shaft’ technology, the Okuma Hakai Casting Reels reduce friction with stainless steel components to greatly improve your casting distance.

Comments: Was really hoping for a quality reel for 200 but disappointed. I bought two and one went down the first month after trying to put the line leveler back on the whole cheap plastic broke in half from tightening down the screw. Trashed it because I couldn't find a replacement part. The second one started making a bad clicking sound from the gears. I had to disengage then re engage the reel to make it stop each cast. Broke it down and cleaned and lubed the whole thing. Still sounds rough. And apart from that it's a hard reel to dial in to changing wind and my hands constantly slip off the knobs especially when winding in a fish and lost some because of it. Had to buy separate paddle handles which added to the cost. Should of just stayed with my Tatula Elites. So down 460 for nothing. Expensive lesson.

Comments: Owned a 7.1 Hakai since June2022. Very light and good brakes to prevent backlashes. However, the gears began to make some noise after about 6 months. Then the handle broke off. The screw holding it in broke. Dealing with their customer support is a PITA because it's not US-based. Sending the reel in was expensive and slow. Once returned, I sold it on Ebay.

Comments: I think this reel is a great reel. It's very light and it cast extremely light lures that most baitcasters can't throw. Is it the best $200 reel though? I have many reels from many different companies at this price range and it's definitely in the upper end of it. I don't believe it's as good as the Curado, but I would put it above the Tatula SV. I would definitely recommend for someone who wants try to out new and different gear!

Comments: Just got the 7/1 in right hand and loaded it with 12 floro. This will see jerk bait and let gut top water use. The reel is light, very light. Everything feels tight and very smoooth. Handles are great. Spool start up is extremely fast. Working with the spool tension knob and balancing it with the mag controls got it casting long and sweet. Smooth drag and fluid retrieves make the Hakai a real player in the price range. The more I use it the more I like it.

Comments: I got this reel looking for a baitcaster to cast lighter lures down to 1/8 ounce. And wow this is great. Extremely light, and smooth and casts good. Can cast 1/8 ounce jigs with no problem and it handles the fish great. Casting is pretty good and overall so far it's been a good reel.

Comments: Finally got mine in 7.3 from a preorder 6 months ago at a great price. Note this reel has some in & out handle assembly and knob play. Daniel at okuma said its normal. A small reel with average cranking power. Spool will not freespool long when empty since its so light but put some line on it and it will cast very well. 3year waranty. Magnesium frame value priced. Glad to try it. Knobs are comfortable.

Comments: Been using the 8.1.1 with my megabass 110 jerkbait rod and wow its been awesome. Just as good and lighter than my shimano xg metanium mgl b. This is the reel I will be getting more of because of the price compared to the metanium. I also prefer this one over my curado dc. Still got to get the okuma pitching reel to compare with my diawa elite pitch reel. So far im amazed.

Comments: Unacceptable tolerances on handle knobs and handle pops in and out...thought I did my homework on this one and got my feelings hurt.Very disappointed. Update: After disassembly and $30 worth of bearings for handle knobs reel fishes very well. Its pretty hard to backlash and skips very well.If it makes it a year without becoming geary I will purchase more.
