Comments: I bought the Feather spinning 7'1" Medium 2-Piece. The rod is incredibly light, 3.0 oz. on my scale. It felt good when paired with light reels, such as Tatula 3000 shallow spool or Vanford 2500, but I would expect heavier reels will have balance issues. The reel seat is a little close to the butt, so that might exacerbate the balance issue. As others have noted, you either love or hate the reel seat because it is so minimalist. I grip my rod with the reel stem between my middle and ring fingers, to the reel seat was right in the middle of my grip - perfect. But if you grip your rod further up (e.g. reel stem between you pinky and your ring finger), you'll be grabbing mostly blank ahead of the reel, and that will be awkward. If you grip further back (e.g. reel stem between index finger and middle finger), you'll be gripping the tightening ring, and that will be uncomfortable. Basically, the reel seat is suitable only for certain people's grip. Lastly and importantly, this rod has MICRO GUIDES. Before purchasing, I looked and could not find much info about "Essex T-Ring" guides, but they are definitely micro, and very micro at that. If you use braid-to-leader beware. I am returning the rod due to the micro guide issue, but that might not bother some folks.

Comments: The medium and the heavy are both excellent fishing rods!. I have fished both models and found a lot of versatility between the two. as a rod builder and long time fishermen I have tried and felt meany diffirent brands and phenix is by far the best when it comes to price point. the 71M is excellent for drop shot, underpins ect. the 71H is a bit stiffer, shake heads, ned, small jigs, jerk baits. these rods fish similar to a $400 rod .
