Overview

If you’re big bass dreaming, it is time to wake up and put a whale in your livewell with the Savage Gear 4D Pulse Tail Trout Line-Thru Swimbait. It features a game-changing Pulse Tail design that delivers a subtle, ultra-realistic action, that can be fishing at slow, medium, and even high speeds with a tail-thumping motion. An innovative slot is also incorporated into the top of the tail so the angler can modify their swimbait with scent or a rattle to further tempt any unconvinced trophy lunkers into tasting your trout. Savage Gear applied the same attention to detail that they did in the tail to the rest of the body. With its incredibly life-like body profile and colors, the bass in your lake simply won’t be able ignore it. Complimenting the beautiful design and finish of the Pulse Tail Trout is a unique and adaptable rigging system.

Its versatile line-thru design implements an internal ‘Y’ split allowing you to back or belly mount your favorite treble hook, and tailor its placement based on the structure or cover you are working. Additionally, once you hook up with your new personal best, the line-thru design removes any leverage the fish may have to throw the hook. Get an edge on the bass with a bait that is based on a scan of a real trout, the Savage Gear 4D Pulse Tail Trout Line-Through Swimbait, and fish a swimbait that is as close as it gets to fishing with live bait.

Comments: Save your money folks. These newer style pulse tails aren't worth buying! The tail on these new baits is a third of the size of the original pulse tail thus giving it way less vibration or kick. "Pulse tail".... Lol yeah right! Savage gear you lost my vote. Buy a Hudd.

Comments: The swimbait itself looks great and I think it would be an awesome option but I purchased this last year and never had an opportunity to use it until this Spring. The hook on the bottom literally fell out of the bait and it's brand new. Not sure how that happened but unfortunately it made the bait useless.

Comments: Bought one of these to throw around on my new swimbait rod. After watching hours of swimbait videos and look at swimbaits in general I decided I would give these a shot. I will say, TO ME, the swimming action of this is more "realistic" than any of the others I've watched underwater videos on. It's got a great action and the line-thru rigging system is actually very cool. I see guys spending hundreds of dollars on baits, which at this point they are paying to collect more than anything, and these are viewed as "beginner" baits, and these kind of get looked down on. For the price and what you get, its tough to beat. Prefer these to Huds in all honesty.

Comments: Beats the pants off a Hudd, much more consistent in swimming action and is far more durable. It'll catch you a big bass or a gator pike, just keep throwing it and slow roll that baby. It's not for the impatient, but if you stick with it you will be rewarded bigtime, I promise because I've seen it.

Comments: The swimbait has a good pulse and swims like a dream, great  cheaper soft swimbait.

Comments: Tail pulse, oh there is a pulse alright, barley breathing... Looks great but swims awful. They need to go back to the drawing board and take notes from the Huddleson 68 special

From: Teddy: California 3/27/20

Comments: I bought the Trout, Ghost Trout and Carp ones in 8 and 10 inch. These baits look great, pulse well and swim true, which makes them a good cheap Huddleston alternative (especially if you're out of Huds and waiting for your backorder to come through). They seem way more durable, the paint is applied under the surface layer and it's rather impossible to chip the colors - no matter how hard you rub, the bait still looks the same. On the negative side, these baits smell HORRIBLE out of the box. Just absolutely terrible, a pungent chemical stench that I haven't smelled on any other Savage Gear swimmer, either. Don't expect to open one of these and fish them immediately, you'll spend a while airing them out first (or cover them with more scent jelly than you've ever put on a bait in your life). Boiling didn't do anything to make the scent go away, btw. ROF is too low for my liking but can be adjusted with included nail weights. Finally: as good as these baits look, I think the colors are a bit too saturated. You put one next to a Hud and the Hud looks more faded and (in my mind) natural. But your fish might (and probably won't) mind.

Comments: This is a very resilient Swimbait. The line thru system makes the probability of land a fish after its hooked up by 99%. If your a veteran Swimbaiter or beginner make sure you have a few of these before they sell out. I am throwing these lures on a extra extra Heavy med action rod rated 8-16 ounces and the 10 inch lures are just getting far enough with this rod. So make sure you do your homework when buying. Edit:  With a year of experience in my belt now I have a more detailed review. I can't explain enough how valuable Line through setups on Swimbaits are in hook up scenarios. I do add a sting hook to the pulsetails because most bass that I target are Open Water Bass and with my experience they have a 75% in engulfing the bait from behind. While bed fishing most bass are just willing to grab the lures tail and rush off with it to move the bait away from their bed. When fishing pike and Muskie waters I fish with bottom treble hooks. When I target any other species I use the top hook method. My reason why is because sometimes the bass will hit the lure with it's snout to stun its prey. Then they tend to follow up and eat the lure after. I use 200 lbs single strand wire to create my stinger hooks and I create a pin to hold the stinger hook. I fish with 100 lbs braid to a 20 foot leader. Depending on the scenario I will use monofilament, Fluorocarbon, Polycarbon line. I prefer the monofilament line with its stretch. When it comes to a leader line I use the BloodKnot as my connection knot to braid. When fishing in Pike and Muskie scenarios I trust using 40 lbs fluorocarbon or 80 lbs monofilament. When I'm bass fishing I drop down to 25 lbs Monofilament or 18 fluorocarbon. I do use scents on the baits because I do believe it's just another percent that it's look and smells real to the fish. You can fish the bait as fast as you can go or as slow to get bites. My PB pike was caught burning a 10 inch ghost trout 2 inches below the water in 4-6 foot off water. My Michigan PB Bass was caught after a 20 second pause after the cast. It's up to you to interpret what cadence is better to fish. I've used 3 different rod types for these lures. Medium Slow rod I think it's good for deep fishing like 20-50 feet deep, Moderate fast rod I believe this rod is better in shallow environments, Fast action Extra Extra Heavy rod Is slowly starting to be my main rod. That's because It's easier to fish with 6-10 hour days. the fast action rod isn't a good choice for fish that tend to jump often though. I haven't had any bad luck but I've seen a few fellow fisherman lose a fish from a very stiff Muskie rod while Swimbait fishing.

Comments: With Huddlestons becoming harder and harder to get it's really nice to see other manufacturers come out with baits that fit into that style of fishing. This is a great bait from Savage Gear. The tail swims at extremely slow speeds, even slower than a Hudd. I also find the line thru system to be superior to the jig hook or BB rigging of the Hudd. I've only caught two fish on it so far but both of them threw the bait far up the line as soon as the fight began leaving just the treble in their mouth making it extremely difficult for them to come loose. The bait sinks slightly slower than a ROF 5 Hudd but comes with pre-made holes to add nail weights so you can really play with it. The one negative I have to point out is the smell. These baits come out of the package with a very strong smell of plastic. Really wish Savage Gear could find a different formula to avoid this. The bait will "off-gas" a little over time but you still need to pour on the scent to cover it up. Overall this is a great bait that I'm excited to fish this winter.
