Overview

Designed with a magnesium HAGANE body, MGL Spool IV, and brimming with other cutting-edge Shimano technologies, Shimano Antares 100 B Casting Reels are meticulously crafted for uncompromising bass anglers who demand the utmost in refinement and performance. As the premier baitcasting reel in the Shimano lineup, the Antares 100 B utilizes the advanced MGL Spool IV, a new lightweight spool design providing low-inertia startup and engineered with a unique reverse taper for precise line winding, excellent balance, and smoother casts. Unlocking even higher levels of castability, the SVS Infinity system uses centrifugal force to apply just the right amount of braking according to the spool’s rotation speed, reducing backlashes and further enhancing performance with light baits.

Extremely comfortable and easy to palm, the sleek, compact body of the Antares 100 B also houses key features like a redesigned clutch, powerful Cross Carbon Drag, and MicroModule gearing for ultra-smooth reeling. When second best simply won’t cut it, the Shimano Antares 100 B Casting Reels deliver the exquisite craftsmanship and awe-inspiring performance you expect from a flagship Shimano offering.

An efficient luxuryThe best fishing reel I have used in my 40 years as a Black Bass fisherman. Comfortable to use for many hours continuously, quiet, with excellent casting and drag. The high quality of the materials used in its construction is evident. If they had the Shimano Antares 100MG, I am sure I would buy it. I am happy to have it in my fishing arsenal, so I definitely recommend it.

Is the Antares worth it over MetaniumI purchased the new Antares and was excited to see how it was, compared side by side with the Metanium. Noticeable difference no doubt a nicer reel when it comes to the craftsmanship. Smooth as butter, much quieter, 6 main brakes over 4 on the Metanium, casting distance I would argue was a bit farther on the Antares than the Metanium but both cast plenty far enough. Both great reels but excited to have the Antares in my hands, reaching for it over the Metanium. There is a noticeable difference when palming, the Metanium is more low profile feeling than the Antares which fills the hand more. Antares is like holding a softball compared to the Metanium as a baseball. Maybe not that much of a size difference but fills the hands different no doubt but not in a bad way. End of the day I wouldn’t veer away from Antares it’s just a bit larger palming. My hand size from bottom of palm to tip of middle finger 7” 1/4 and width of palm right below fingers is 3” 1/2.

Perfect reelHas a great feel and bombs lures to their max. Same weight as the slx dc so I would say it’s not very heavy but some do, but I don’t think it’s heavy at all. Fished with it for hours without getting tired of holding it. Perfect to hold, super smooth, and just a wonder to have. Definitely recommend!

Smoothness I Didn’t Think PossibleTo start off, I just want to throw it out there that this reel excels at chuck-and-wind techniques. Fishing chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, you name it, this thing is the best of the best. However, this thing is all-around just an absolute machine. The pinnacle of smoothness and long-distance baitcasting. Not my top pick for jigging and Texas rigs, as my hands are rather average-sized, but despite the reel being larger, I can say it palms just fine. If you can swing it, get you one.

Smoothest reel everThis reel is phenomenal I can get a 70 yard cast with a lipless, it best handle baits in the 3/8-1oz baits to get the best casting distance.

100 size PLEASE more like a 200 size!!My biggest gripe is as you might of guessed is this reel is ridiculously too big for a 150 size reel let alone a 100 size. Casting is nothing spectacular, especially compared to the Metanium MGL 151. I'd put that reel on a diet the next go around. Save yourself the money and stick with the Metanium MGL151 or the Bantam MGL 151, you won't be disappointed!

Antares BAmazing reel. Butter smooth. Next to no effort to send lures across the lake. This reel truly feels like a high end reel. Very satisfied with this reel.

Phenomenal caster, but too bigThe 2025 Antares is an amazing reel from a casting perspective. I have mine on my Megabass Orochi XX Brailist and spooled with 40# braid and it's a simple flick of the wrist to send a 1/2 oz jig as far as I could possibly need to. Super smooth on the retrieve as you would expect. The only problem with the reel is that it's enormous compared to the other 100 sized reels on the market. I don't notice the size so much on the water since I have bigger hands and the additional weight isn't a noticeable either considering that I have it on rod that it balances with fairly well. If you're looking for a reel to pair with a super high end, light weight rod (Conquest, Destroyer, NRX+, etc...) I would look at something else.

Big and BulkyI was excited about the release until I got my hands on it. I have a pic of it compared to a 200 curado dc, 100H steeze sv tw, and a 70 metanium DC. It is every bit the size of the 200 curado. its heavy, doesn't palm. For the price, it’s a disappointment, and it feels like shimano mailed it in just to bring an ‘updated’ product to market. I would buy any of the other models listed above before this reel. It’s like wanting the newest high end super car; and then getting a Porche Cayenne.
