Love it sooo much! I have 3 now!Great reels. I saw that it's ranked low due to the new review system mechanics that TW added to the site. That cannot stand. This is a 5 star reel all day long. One of the best reels I've ever owned, and I've have a bunch. Had 3 for years now and haven't even needed to clean the bearings yet. I tournament fish with them in FL too, so they get a lot of use in fairly hostile environments. You can't go wrong with this reel. The DC system works and helps out a ton.

nicei've had this 4 years now, it's held up real well so far. it's smooth, and casts well. the thing is, i don't think i get any advantage from the dc system. it sounds neat when i cast, but i think i'm just used to using my thumb because i'm old school. maybe i'm not using it right? i don't know. i just know it's a pretty good reel, but i don't think the dc part of it actually does anything

Does everything for meIt’s a great little reel. I pair it with 20lb pp slick v2 and it cast great. I use it as a do all work horse and it hasn’t failed me yet. Braking doesn’t stop backlash. It just helps minimize the chances it’ll happen. I thumb the spool like old school, but you barely have to touch for beautiful casting. When lure hits water, stop the spool with your thumb. Simple. Hope it works for you like it has for me. Tight lines!

Great reel! Bad customer serviceI have 4 of these dc reels. They work great. You can cast a mile and are very hard to back lash. I fish a lot of tournaments and they are one of my go to reels. One of them started to back lash. I took it to a local tackle shop. They stated they had a local rep that would take care of it, Since it’s only a year old. To my surprise Shimano charger me $50 something to repair. They said it was normal wear and tear. If they only last a year they must have cheap parts? I have many reels that are years old with no problem at all. I’ll think twice about buying Shimano again.

Outstanding!I’ve been fishing 10-11 years. I started out with a zebco 33 from Walmart. Over the years and with experience and revenue increasing I’ve continually bought higher quality reels. At the recommendation of a well experienced reel repairman I purchased my first Curado DC. With a small learning curve I’ve nearly mastered this reel. I own several now and purchased a few for fishing partners. I have purchased a few new higher end reels but they fall short of the DC. A few weeks ago I landed a 6-14 large mouth. In the excitement my Curado DC and my Dobyns HP went overboard. I had no way of recovering at that time. The following day I went in recovery mode. After numerous cast I finally hooked my rod. I clean the exterior and opened side plate and removed the spool. Not one drop of mud was on the inside of the reel. I completely dried in the sun, oiled up the shaft and bearings and reassembled. The reel works perfectly. In time these will be the only reels on my deck. I’ve got Lews, Tatulas, Concepts A-C and Z’s, and Abu Garcia. But they’ll all be replaced in time by Curado DC’s. Put dial on 4 and tighten down the spool tensioner until you get the feel. Loosen with comfort and enjoy a quality reel!

Comments: This is the best reel Shimano ever made. Read instructions and set it up correctly. Cast 30 pound braided line all day with o problems. Day after day!

From: Jim Evans: 9/30/23

Comments: Love this reel! Great for bass, pike, and walleye! It DOES NOT prevent backlash but it does help with it. Not near as many backlashs but when you do get a backlash, its MUCH worse. Overall love it tho.

From: Chuck Norris: salisbury nc 8/29/23

Comments: Best reel I have. Cast great day after day.

From: Unknown: 8/19/23

Comments: I hate this reel SO MUCH!! I literally just threw it in the garbage. The problem??? Water intrusion gets the drag washers wet after a couple hours of use. The result is a sticky, noisy drag. I sent it back under warranty to shimano and they regreased the drag. Now, of course it has the same problem again. What a PITA this curado is!!! Ir doesn't even cast well when it's working. I've had a couple dozen shimano reels. All have been great except this dog. Pure garbage!

From: Unknown: 8/18/23

Comments: Curado was always a great reel and now with DC makes it even better Very smooth drag I have 7 of these now

From: chuck: quincy,ill 8/11/23

Comments: This is the best reel I've ever owned. It's super smooth and cast a mile. I also have the Curado BFS! Both are Great reels, definitely worth the money. I can't wait to buy another.

From: Jay: Valdosta, Ga 7/9/23

Comments: Absolutely love this reel. Cast distance is great, can really force fish out of cover. Very well made.

From: Richard: Georgia 6/29/23

Comments: Great reel. Great for backlash preventing. I have several with various speeds and wouldn't choose another reel!

From: Joe: Mass 6/28/23

Comments: The Curado DC is incredibly durable, lightweight, and smooth as butter! If you're thinking about it go straight to Tackle Warehouse and order a few! I saved over $50 shopping an amazing Memorial Day sale they were having. Hands down the best made reel I've ever owned.

From: Big Al: Nashville, TN 6/25/23

Comments: Great reel. Easy to use and maintain. I own seven of these and have yet to find another in the price range that is comparable. Very few backlashes and can cast a long distance with it. Would like to see the price come down a bit and stay below $250.

From: Greg: FL 4/10/23

Comments: Great reel high quality components. Best casting reel I have.

From: Daniel: United States 3/10/23

Comments: Shimano reels are just amazing, easy to use, long cast, and it can handle just about anything you catch! Will be buying a few more soon.

From: Rob: Texas 1/26/23

Comments: This is one of the great reels from Shimano that cast well and feels good in your hand. Totally enjoy fishing with this reel all  c gear ratio offered and have had some for over 3 years. All reels are still going strong with no issues to date. I love the feel and mechanics of these reels, smooth casting and I can switch from a heavy to light bait without having to change a bunch of settings and continue to cast with confidence. I would recommend for anyone from beginners to pros.

From: Lance: Alabama 12/17/22

Comments: I'm not a fan of this reel. In fact it was sent into Shimano last week because water gathered by braid seems to infiltrate the drag system leading to a jerky, loud drag. As for the DC system I don't like that either. It's like having a nanny system on a car. It's good for beginners but professional drivers hate nanny systems. With this reel perfectly tuned, my 3 year old Chronarch casts further and more smoothly. For me, I really wish I never bought this reel.

From: Blake: CA 12/2/22

Comments: I have fished this reel for several seasons now. It is very versatile. Works great. I think its the most versatile and simply adjustable reel I have used over a very wide range of uses. Everything from unweighted plastics, to pitching wood and docks with heavy jigs, to bomb casting light paddletails, to pike fishing in Canada with large spoons, light balsa baits or larger swimbaits. The drag is smooth and relible, and while not super heavy this reels has easily handled dozens of heavy pike in the 40 - 46" range. I don't backlash much but I never notice it with this reel if properly dialled (vs say my Tranx for muskies which can go on you occasionally with a dry spool or variable distances / bait weights). I have Metanium and Curado MGLs too. And while those have weight, slight casting distance and ergonomic advantages, this is the reel that goes on my do-everything bass rod and on the fly-in trips when you need a single heavy-use reel to do everything that cannot fail. It's heavier than the MGLs but for that, you get more capacity and complete reliability. It balances well on stouter rods like MH and H. Too heavy for a M in my view.

From: JHC: CO 11/20/22

Comments: After reading and watching tons of reviews I decided to make the Curado my first baitcasting reel. I paired the reel with a Shimano Expride B medium heavy rod. It still backlashes if you aren't experienced casting or if you make a mistake casting. I have tried it on braided and Floro and think it works better with Floro. I was having issues with the Alberto knot getting caught up in the micro guides and causing backlashes. I would recommend setting the spool so it doesn't have back and forth movement and not adjusting it as other baitcasting reels are done by lure weight.

From: Bobby: PA 11/6/22

Comments: Great reel for beginner bait caster like me. I like it a lot. Feels very solid and seems to reduce the line nests.

From: Donald: Lexington TN 10/2/22

Comments: First Curado I have purchased. I have lots of experience with bait casters, so I was skeptical at first, took some getting used to, but surprisingly I like this reel. Significantly stands out casting into breezy or windy conditions. 8.5:1 wastes no time getting the fish away from cover and in the boat. Design is comparable to Lews and other low-profile casters I am accustomed to. It is well made and is comfortable casting all day.

From: Cody: The Delta, CA 9/8/22

Comments: Surprisingly great reel. I've had my Curado DC for about a month now and it impresses me every time I pick it up I have been a die-hard lews guy since they where reintroduced. I have about 6 combos with lews reels and rods i use on the regular. I am now phasing the lews out on my most used rods and switching to curados. The pure distance I can get out of the shimano is mind blowing. Within seconds of picking up the reel I was able to skip lures under brush and docks with no effort. The gears are sooo smooth it just screams quality I will be buying at least 3 more.

From: Colt: Kansas 8/19/22

Comments: Over rated, might be good for a beginner. It is smooth and durable, but heavy and I still get back lashes if I give it a full send.

From: Art: California 8/7/22

Comments: Superb reel. Smooth, solid, incredible casting distance with little effort. Highly recommend.

From: Unknown: 7/31/22

Comments: I own 3 of these now and they always impress me. Love how easy they are to set up. There super smooth. Cast light or heavy baits a mile with minimal effort. Great reel for beginner or someone who is struggling with baitcaster birds nesting. Little more money but totally recommend. Love mine!

From: Joel: Michigan 7/14/22

Comments: Reel is absolutely amazing! Pro pointer tip of the week though, PUT a mono backing on it, if you run straight and slam a hook set you can allegedly break the anti reverse inside it. Shimano won't warranty it per the manual, they tell you to put a backing on it. I've not had that problem but I know some who have. Just fyi. But as far the reel goes I don't think there's another reel on the planet at any price point that's this good. I have 650.00 monster drive Antares Japan only release , and it's really not that much better. Buy with confidence.

From: Jon: Spring, TX 7/1/22

Comments: So I should probably preface this by saying that all of the positives you'll read in the reviews previous to mine, I totally agree with. The reel is great for many things. However, something to keep in mind is if you are looking for a compact light reel that palms fantastic then this may not be the one. Is it comfortable? Sure! It's not quite as comfortable in hand as other 150-70 sized reels but it's still manageable. I love this reel as well as the SLX DC for long bomber casts, chunk and wind presentations and such. What I do not like this reel for is skipping. For me personally I have much better control and feel when I use my older Curado 200i reels. Sure the reel skips but I feel the DC braking robs me of distance after the skip even on the 2 setting. This reel has been incredible after 2 seasons for my Chatterbait set up. Especially in the windy late winter/early spring when your fingers are so numb your sure you could break them of f and stuff em in your pocket. So A+ for quality and longevity C+ for size and weight. Just my 2 cents

From: Jon: Ohio 6/29/22

Comments: ive had mine for about 2 years and it feels amazing, cast amazing, and just looks amazing. i absolutely love this reel. I would say i have no complaints but id be lying. Mine got left in the pouring down rain one day and i tried to use it one day after and realized the drag would not work. Even with the drag all the way tight. I castmy bait and took almost all the line out. then reeled the line back in and it started working fine after that. I have to do that on my first cast every time i use it almost. reel needs to be more water proof for that chip.

From: Unknown: 6/18/22

Comments: I originally bought 1 reel and absolutely fell in love with it so I ordered 2 more with different gear ratios and each now has a place in my arsenal. Very easy to dial in based on what kind of line you're throwing and best of all set it on 4 for beginners and absolutely zero backlashes! I would highly recommend the Shimano Curado for anyone wanting to learn how to throw a bait caster or anyone with experience that wants to up their game! I was hesitant of the price tag but it's well worth it and I now own 3 Curados! Give it a try, you'll be happy you did!

From: Damon: Washington 6/11/22

Comments: I love throwing shad raps, but hate using spinning gear to avoid the backlash. This is absolutely the perfect reel for all my fishing applications, excelling in light cranks!, This is a "No hesitation" purchase for anybody who has yet to own one, simple to set up, and wind/no wind...NO PROBLEM! Great for first time baitcast buyers and teaching new anglers, it helps keep fishing simple. I can also spool up those higher quality floro's without worrying about cutting half of it out in the middle of a tournament. Save your money on those discount reels with plastic gears, This is Quality & Dependability at a price point well below market rates.

From: Erick: Alexandria, AL 3/17/22

Comments: Awesome reel the dc brakes don't slow on an rig down or anything of that size and weight too well but that was to be expected. Probably the best reel I've owned though

From: Unknown: 2/8/22

Comments: If you are having second thoughts on purchasing this reel, make the move now. I purchased a right handed 6:2:1 model and use it for cranking squarebills. The DC braking system is amazing. It is super easy to setup and super easy to adjust as you like it. If you have never owned a baitcaster before, put the dc braking system on 4 and you will not backlash. I will be replacing several of my cranking reels with more DCs. Thank you tackle warehouse for being the best tackle supplier once again!

From: Koen: Louisiana 1/28/22

Comments: A great option from a quality minded company. I'm not a brand specific type of guy as I like to try new gear and I normally don't try to persuade people in one direction or another but this reel is among the elites in my book. Smooth, long casting, and great gear sets. You definitely can't go wrong with this one. Being a 150 size also allows it to be used for several different techniques.

From: Rich: Pennsylvania 1/19/22

Comments: Another great reel from Shimano. I Highly recommend this reel to people who are learning to use a bait caster for the first time. Works well with braid or fluorocarbon line. Almost no backlash when casting into the wind and extra long casts with smaller baits.

From: Gary: Washington 1/8/22

Comments: Man, the reels are sweet and cast a long distance when you need to get your bait to the other side of the lake. Little different in settings than earlier reels with brakes. No doughs one of the great reels from Shimano.

From: Scott: Lawrenceburg, KY 12/30/21

Comments: The reel is a bit noisy but it casting distance is fantastic. I rarely backlash it when casting. If it lasts as other Shimano reels, it's worth every penny of the price. I purchased two of them.

From: Charles: Knoxville, TN 12/30/21

Comments: The real is amazing literally no back lashes and the cast ability is amazing.

From: Mateo: Florida 12/29/21

Comments: Absolutely the best option for me. If you are like me and need a versatile yet quality reel, this is "THE BEST OPTION". Smooth as silk and strong as an OX. I don't get to fish every week but when I do, I do not want to be bothered with inferior products. I want something that will be ready when I am. Whether I am trying to skip docks or fish a shaky head on a windy day I can use this reel. My only "issue" is the noise it makes while casting. That's my problem, not the reels. Once you get past that noise, you also will love it.

From: Jeff: Warrior, AL 12/28/21

Comments: I've been using this reel for about 4 months now......GET ONE. Out the box you could bomb lures across the United States. YES YOU CAN STILL BACKLASH IT! It does reduce them a ton. Do research on how to tune it trust me. I use it for a jig setup. It's the easiest to skip and super accurate paired up with the right rod. I feel like im cheating with this reel.

From: Unknown: 12/28/21

Comments: I am delighted to do a review on the Curado DC (CUDC150XG ) I recently purchased. I have been fishing for over 50 years. I started out as a youngster using a spin caster Zebco 33 and eventually graduated to spinning reels in my early teens. I had never found a reason to own a low-profile baitcaster because I can accurately sling my light or heavy bait packages near or very far with my spinners. In fact, I am willing to challenge any baitcasting fisherman to a distance challenge. But, I finally decided to give a low-profile baitcaster a try. It took me six months to make a decision on which low-profile baitcaster I would try. I went middle of the road ($249) for the CUDC150XG and put the reel on a medium fast St Croix 7' Avid-X rod. I sat and looked at the reel for over a week, along with reading and watching videos on how to use it, how to set it up, and just picturing myself as the new world record holder for the bird nests I knew I would be pulling my hair out over. So I finally took it out to a local lake, where there was no one to watch me make a fool out of myself. To my amazement, and using the initial #4 newbie setting, I did not cast far, but no birds nests. By the end of the afternoon, I was on my #3 setting for braid and launching 1/4 to 1/2 ounce jigs well past 40 yards and only the occasional birdsnests that were totally my fault. I can still cast further with my spinners, but there is a significant time improvement between cast with lures. To me, if you are pitching lures all day, the baitcaster is a better choice for non-lightweight gear. Anyway, as a new low profile baitcaster user, I am very impressed with the Curado DC's ease of use, very lightweight, looks great, very few bird nests that were my fault, and oh yes, that wonderful screaming zing the DC's make seems to get every other Fishermans attention at the pier :). I have been using Shimano reels for over 20 years, Bait Runner D's, Thunnus, Vanford, TYRNOS II's, and now the Curado DC.

From: Matthew: Saint Augustine, FL 12/20/21

Comments: I'd marry this reel if I could. Literally the best reel you can buy. I don't even have to try to cast far and accurate, it's like it does it by itself lol. In all honestly, I've bought 2 more of these after o got my first one. The only reel to use.

From: Chase: Unknown 12/8/21

Comments: One of the smoothest and most reliable reels I throw. At half the price of some of the high-end reels available, this one is a trusted staple. Casts a mile and is nearly impossible to blow up. You'll have to get used to the sound that's akin to a Saturn Missile, but you will get over that in a hurry. I have four of them right now and haven't had a problem with any of them.

From: Tyler: Overland Park, KS 12/3/21

Comments: Shimano never disappoints and this reel is a perfect exemplar of that statement. Great reel, casts smoothly, and can handle any condition.

From: JC: New Jersey 11/27/21

Comments: DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR SALTWATER USE. i know a lot of people use it for inshore, and its rated for saltwater use. I used it 3 times, gently rinsed and oiled it each time after use. started giving me problems, now the handle is stiff to turn, cannot free spin the handle at all (like how you can spin it quick to get the DC sound to come on?) the handle just stops immediately. getting in touch with Shimano has been very difficult too. my theory: there is a difference between a reel that's rated for saltwater use as well, and a reel that's made FOR saltwater use.

From: Unknown: 11/16/21

Comments: Nice smooth reel making for longer casts. Purchased two and will probably get a third one soon.

From: Greg: Unknown 11/8/21

Comments: I've been using Shimano reels 30+ years now & I've never tried another brand. I still use the old Shimano Core bait-casters & the green 50E Curados. I recently bought the Curado 150 DC after having bought 6 of the SLX DC's over time. I've never had the pleasure of fishing with a reel so smooth, easy to use & be able to cast, flip & skip a variety of weighted or weightless lures. I'll never buy another brand reel. Shimano seems to step up the game at least once a year.

From: Unknown: Texas 11/7/21

Comments: Really loving this reel! Once you get it set correctly, you can cast any weight lure without concern. Great reel!

From: Ken: Arkansas 11/6/21

Comments: 100%X1000000 times ABSOLULTY LOVED THIS REEL when I used it was so happy and satisfied with this reel and will be purchasing more as soon as possible. It is just flat out a sexy reel and works so smooth. When I used it I used it on a Texas rigged worm or brush hog casting and pitching to docks and bushes and had absolutely no issues or back lashes with it. I will recommend this reel to anyone.

From: James: Odessa, TX. 11/6/21

Comments: Very happy with the reel. Cast even small lures very well. use very little thumb when casting. Great reel.

From: Ken: Bentonville, AR 10/29/21

Comments: Great reel for jerkbaits and smaller cranks. I have mine on a 6-10 medium Expride and love the way it feels. This is my first DC reel and I wasn't sure if that sound would annoy me or not. It really doesn't bother me that much at all. Definitely don't regret getting this reel one bit.

From: Dave: Castaic, CA 10/27/21

Comments: When I first saw this released I actually had no idea this kind of reel existed, even though I typically use JDM products/brands. I did some searching and found that DC reels are pretty popular in Japan, and after hearing good things decided to pick one up. when I first got it I was a little disappointed with it. It was a bit heavier in hand than I expected, and it backlashed constantly. I eventually figured out you can't set it up like the non-dc reels and expect it to work. On other reels I was used to loosening the spool up till it had some play in it being good to go. You absolutely cannot use this reel that way. You must set it up with enough spool tension to keep the spool from over spinning when the lure hits the deck like you would when you first started using baitcasters as it requires that spool tension to control the brake. After learning this the reel is amazing. Effortless casts and I even picked up distance and accuracy with it. The One thing I did learn though: if you're buying this to throw weightless plastics you're going to have a bad time. It really doesn't work well with weightless plastics, so you're better off with an MGL.

From: Rob: Virginia 10/25/21

Comments: This is by far the best Shimano reel I have ever owned. I can literally cast it with one arm while holding the butt of the rod only, and NO BACKLASH!!!!!

From: Wood: Richmond, VA 10/23/21

Comments: For $250, I don't think you can beat this reel. It's very smooth, casts incredibly well, and just flat out looks (and sounds) amazing. The only downside I can see for some people is the max drag on this thing is right at 10 lbs, I believe. If you can work with that, look no further.

From: John: California  10/22/21

Comments: I have about 20 hours on this reel now and zero backlashes. I didn't notice much of a difference in casting distance between the Curado and the SLX. The SLX may cast a little further. So far I am very satisfied with the Curado for my jig fishing. A skeptic at first, I'm becoming a believer in the DC technology. I can see myself replacing all my reels with DC's in the future.

From: Mike: Illinois 10/20/21

Comments: Best reel out there honestly smooth as butter, gears are tough as nails. I know it's not American made but Shimano does take pride in their higher end stuff!

From: Nick: Williamson Georgia 10/18/21

Comments: Great reels. Highly recommend that people that are learning to use a baitcaster purchase this reel to learn with. You would save time, money amd frustration learning with this reel and Eliminating backlashes. I have been using baitcasters for 40 plus years. And for the life of me i could just not learn how to skip baits way back under cover. Well with the DC even an ol dog learned a new trick and could now use any reel other than a shimano to do so. I won't. But I could. Shimano makes the best reels in the market hands down. No matter how hard I try and find another manufacturer I just can't.

From: Danny: Surprise, AZ 10/12/21

Comments: Great Reel, As you can see by most of the comments. Read the instructions and set it up correctly. Pay attention to your rod and line specs. I own four of them and not a single issue. I own some other Curado reels and they are all good.

Comments: THE ONLY REEL YOU EVER NEED. I'm serious It does everything form a weightless fluke to what ever your heart desires. Only reel I will buy from now on.

From: Dom: California 9/24/21

Comments: Received this real from tackle warehouse on time their customer service was awesome begin using the real works better than I could've dreamed. Basically with minimal effort you'll never backlash again into the wind hard casting light casting doesn't matter if you're looking for a real in this price range this is the one for you.

From: Dave: Unknown 9/23/21

Comments: This is the best bait caster I have ever used. It is so smooth with anything I throw on it to go after largemouth bass. If you are reading this to help determine if you should buy it,i am telling you, yes buy it!! I never had a chance to use one before I bought it so it was a little hard to pull the trigger but glad I did I will be trying another DC reel soon and I will be getting it from Tackle Warehouse.

From: Chad: Pennsylvania 9/22/21

Comments: Great reel very smooth. Had it over a month and fished with it two to three times a week had no problems .

From: Joe : Montana 9/18/21

Comments: I am very impressed with how well this reel handles heavy baits and casting into the wind. So I mostly fish from the bank because I can't afford a boat and a lot of gear but I got back into fishing after I stopped for a while but I think this reel is good for anyone on a budget because lemme tell ya what, having to stitch from a weightless senko to a 1/2 once jig is hard because you have to adjust your dials every time you wanna switch. Most likely if your fishing on a budget you don't have a setup for every crank bait, jerk bait, and soft plastic so having like two or three of these is nice so when u switch from a jig to a senko you don't have to adjust anything at all and that saves you a lot of hard ace and time. U have no complaints at all and I recommend this reel 100%. And I will be using TW a lot more in the future.

From: Zach M: Ct 9/11/21

Comments: I have mixed emotions about this reel. Feel amazing fits great in my hand. Love the handles. Sort of stuck in between wondering if the chip really makes a difference or if it's just so you can say you have a DC reel. It does cast well. But I have other Shimano and daiwa reels with no chips that cast better. Still fun to hear the thing though lol

From: Ryan: Monroe, LA 9/3/21

Comments: This thing casts like a dream, awesome reel!

From: Dean: Yukon, OK 9/2/21

Comments:  I have 2 of these reels now. I use them both for topwater plugs. They will launch a popper a country mile. I have them spooled with 12 pound mono. I am very happy with the reels.

From: Eric: Port Republic, VA 9/1/21

Comments:  Great reel. With a smooth case, not trying to overpower the rod and reel, it cast further then any other real at this price point...and perhaps better than more expensive reels. It has the speed and power to handle large bass easily. I bought a second one I liked it so much. For beginners using a bait caster, the different setting (1 - 4) are helpful and helps prevent backlashes. Once you get the smooth cast down, I find that one can go to a lower setting and get max distance. It is important to, like with all bait casters, to have the brake behind the crank handle set so that the lure falls from the tip of the rod med-slowly when you push the casting button, too tight, such that the lure does not move, will shorten casting distant, too loose (freefall) and backlash can happen. Great reel.

From: Terry: Georgia 8/30/21

Comments:  Absolutely phenomenal reel, I've never been so happy to get something before, I was casting a senko farther than I was casting a 3/8 once jig on my curado k, no word of a lie. I couldn't have be more happy with this reel.

From: Zach: Connecticut 8/25/21

Comments: Hand down the most durable and castable reels I have ever used. I have always been a "loose" reel guy. Opening everything in the reel up to maximize distance. These reels allow for incredible distance and control. From a weighless Senko to a large "A-Rig". I have replace every reel in the box now.

From: Todd: Lake Odessa, MI 8/20/21

Comments: I'm sure glad I tried this reel. It's everything that I was told it was. At that price, it's a great value as well. The secret is not setting the spool brake to tight, let the digital control do the work it's intended to do. I bought a second one and will continue to monitor Shimano's newer introduction using this type controls.

From: Wilmer: Mechanicsville 8/8/21

Comments: Just ordered my 3rd and 4th one. I am using the 150 xg for top water applications on braid smooth as silk. Works great for me, cast a country mile. I use all four for buzz baits, and poppers. I own several calais dc, and antares dc reels, and so far, put these little brutes up there with them. Thank you Tackle Warehouse, and Shimano.

From: Eric: Port Republic, VA 8/2/21

Comments: Here after almost 4 years of use, still is a work horse in my lineup. I have never needed to send it in for maintenance or repairs of any kind! This reel is so versatile for large and small baits. Honestly, still the best reel in its price range in my opinion. You and bomb casts and throw into wind with ease. Pick yourself up one if you haven't already. If you're in between this and the SLX DC, go with this one. The micro module gearing is insanely smooth. The SLX DC works well but this reel just has THAT FEEL to it.

From: Chenchar: Colorado 7/31/21

Comments: What can I say about this reel that hasn't already been said. This reel is phenomenal. It fits great in the hands and looks amazing on any rod. The settings on the reel are set up to throw anything you desire, which prevents you from throwing a birds nest. I am definitely in the market for a second one. A MUST BUY!

From: Justin: Unknown 7/8/21

Comments: I think this reel is a master piece. It is easily tuned. I was surprised because this reel is quieter than my Diana Tatula Elete which I love. So if you want a quiet, easy to tune and smooth reel buy it. My search is over for the best reel. Look no further than the Shimano Curado 150 DC. It is awesome!

From: James: Georgia 7/5/21

Comments: This reel is awesome. Absolute home run casts, using sufix 832 braid in 30lb test. I have read that you should not go lower than 30lb braid due to diameter size. i got the 7 ratio one, but honestly i can see the 8 ratio being practical too as the casts are SO FAR if you bomb a lipless out and realize the hooks are fouled, it can take a while to get it all the way back to you. once its dialed in, its truly a set it and forget it reel. only time i change the settings is if i flip/pitch and don't have my other reel with me.

From: BJ: Ney York City, NY 6/29/21

Comments: if you're a long time bass angler I wouldn't recommend this reel. don't get me wrong it's awesome, smooth, light, sturdy, and all around great... for a weekend angler or a new guy learning baitcasters. if you've been fishing for a long time and know how to properly tune a baitcaster you'll get better performance in all applications with something like a Curado 200k or even a Diawa tatula.

From: Kole: Michigan, 6/28/21

Comments: This reel is soo smooth, casts a country mile! Takes a few hours to get used to the braking/tension combination. My new favorite. Will buy another

From: Gage: Unknown: 6/27/21

Comments: I had apprehensions of purchasing a reel that expensive. But once I got it. Dialed it in. It has definitely become my workhorse. Love the quality of the product and ease of use. I recommend anyone get this reel. It's well worth the price !!

From: Daniel: Dover, DE 6/27/21

Comments: This reel is truly a work of art. It is lightweight, easy-to-use, and pragmatic. The craftsmanship of this reel is outstanding and awesome. Shimano never disappoints, and this reel is a testament to that. I actually have two of these reels and highly recommend it to everyone.

From: JC: New Jersey 6/27/21

Comments: Bought 1st one on the recommendation of a experienced fisherman and reel repairman.  Loved it so we'll i bought three more. All smooth as silk. I've thrown in the wind and no backlash. Partner was fighting backlash nearly every cast. I was told at Bass Pro that it was nearly impossible to backlash, not true. It does take a sudden stop on tree limb or something that snatches the line. But if you are proficient with a bait caster you will have very little issues. First Shamno but won't be my last.

From: Jeff: Missouri 6/24/21

Comments: Use to be an Abu fan for years. Recently started to make the switch over to Shimano since I feel as if Abu quality has gone way down hill.  The Curado DC is super smooth out of the box. To date, they are the best reels Iâve purchased for the price point for what is currently available on the market.   If you take the time to dial in the reel it'll save you a lot of time and headache from picking out backlashes as advertised. We will see how they last with time.

From: Aaron: Pennsylvania 6/23/21

Comments: I've used this reel about 3 months now and it's still performing like a dream. Very smooth like butter crank has a bit more sensitivity in the handles than a slx DC. I will say where this reel falls a little short is the 12lb drag where the less expensive slx DC had 20lb drag. But I did buy this reel to do a more finesse approach so it's been PERFORMING well above my expectations. I would recommend this reel to someone who really enjoys that curado feel. But from a point price for product I'd recommend the slx DC. They're both great reels though none the less.

From: Matt: Tennessee 6/22/21

Comments: This reel is good in all for the first few months only! Be aware after a few months of using this reel it becomes cranky. Every time I reel it would start making noises. Keep in mind I keep this reel in very good condition never letting my reel touch the ground, oiling the barring, and cleaning the outer shell. I not the only one who has experience this my cousin and friends all experience the same thing with this reel. The reel is still smoother than other reel but the slx dc is more smoother over time. Also, other thing I experienced with the curado dc was the dc would make a weird sound every now and there. Been using this reel for 6 month and the gear degrade bad. I expect more from a expensive reel. In all the reel is not bad but the quality overtime is not what you expect from a expensive reel.

From: Phenix: California 6/20/21

Comments: I have been waiting for this reel all my life! I have six of them and couldnât be happier. They handle everything from shaky heads to spinner baits.

From: Michael: Redlands, CA 6/19/21

Comments: great reel. Smooth and I can cast light weight baits no problem

From: Chuck: Illinois 6/13/21

Comments: I have used this real in various circumstances and in my experience it has been disappointing.
1. Handles fluro poorly relative to braid especially in higher test lines, with casting distance markedly diminished
2. The software or sensors are erratic resulting in backlashes or fluff intermittently. This is not a common occurrence but seems more common with small diameter braid (maxquatro 20 lb)  and when trying to finesse a cast. I Believe the Daiwa Tatula Elite casts as far and is far more reliable.

From: William: Indianapolis 6/11/21

Comments: This is a great reel. You can get amazing distance with virtually no backlash. I put this reel on a 7'2" medium rod with moderate action for my crankbaits. I will say this, over the past weekend I caught my pb bass on this rod reel combo. In love for ever and I can cast a country mile

From: Morgan: Virginia 6/10/21

Comments: Another great great product by Shimano.  The DC Reel is so easy to cast into the wind with no backlash.  I just purchased by 6th reel and have been pairing them with a variety of the ALX rods....what a combination. Thanks Tackle Warehouse for making shopping easy for fishing equipment and baits!

From: James: Flower Mound, TX 6/8/21

Comments: Game changer. Cliche term but it absolutely is. Can cast my entire spool out very easily. Casting distance is just insane. Best reel I've ever owned, switched all my lews out for curado and slx dc's. Wish I had done it sooner.

From: Ian: Louisville, KY 6/5/21

Comments: Great reel better than any I've owned and I've had most brands and models this is my 2nd dc reel and I was blown away at how much further it cast over my slx dc the curado dc is awesome definitely buying more once its back in stock

From: Marcus: 5/23/21

Comments: I LOVE this reel. This was an upgrade from a Revo SX and it's in a completely different class. Casts further and the micro gearing lends a smoother retrieve. I have thick hands and know Shimanos tend to run skinny spools, but I feel just fine thumbing this reel. If you're trying to cross the $200+ reel mark, this is a fantastic choice.

From: Mike: Ohio 5/6/21

Comments: Love the DC. Buttery smooth and I really like the sound.

From: Jacob: Redding, CA 5/2/21

Comments: One of the best small bait reels on the market today. Small squarebills, jerkbaits, super flukes fly off the spool with little to no effort or problems.

From: Unknown: 4/15/21

Comments:
I purchased this reel as an upgrade to my bait casting Arsenal for the main purpose of skipping jigs and other baits. It's performance is amazing, the reel is very hard to backlash and casts very well. Recommend to anyone looking to learn how to skip with a bait caster as it is very easy with this reel!

From: Mike: 3/26/21

Comments: So I'm a Lews guy and thought it was crazy to spend that much on a reel since I already have good quality and a great price with Lews. I've heard and thought about this reel for a long time and after much debate I finally purchased it. All I can think about ever since is why I waited so long to get this reel. Smooth casting and you can really cast it out there a long way. I live this reel and went ahead and purchased the SLX DC as well. I throw them all the time now. Absolutely worth the purchase and trust me when I say you definitely won't regret it. Thank you Tackle Warehouse for getting it to me so fast!!!

From: Joshua: Hardinsburg, KY 3/19/21

Comments: Just buy this reel. This reel will in fact last you a life time. This reel can do  anything with ease. Worth the money you spend on this reel.

From: Adrian: Texas 3/16/21

Comments: If your debating on purchasing this reel, DO IT! It's the best reel on the market especially for the money, I love it. Winches in 5+ lb large mouth with ease. I have the 8:1 for bottom baits and 6:1 for cranking and jerking. I love both and recommend them to anyone wanting to invest in a high end reel. Perfect for beginners or tournament anglers. Cast small cranks or wacky rig worms with ease.

From: Josh: Morganton, NC 3/9/21

Comments: I have done serious testing with 65 lb test braid and I would give it an A+. I was able to make 35 yd cast with no backlash. It didn't require any thumbing of the spool. I adjusted the spool as directed in the directions with no side to side play and this seemed to give the magnetic control all the help it needed.

From: Charles: Overland, MO 3/2/21

Comments: Best reel, smooth cast, best reel there is... I have about 7 DC reels and will get more.

From: Tony: Sheboygan, WI 2/27/21

Comments: I own several reels from all the big name brands and this is by far my favorite reel and does easily out cast my other setups by at least 10yrds with less energy to do so.

From:

Comments:
Great reel smooth great casting distance and great quality reel. I will definitely be buying another one for a different set up.

From: Roberto: Texas 2/15/21

Comments: Most refined reel I've ever used. Cast smooth, retrieves smooth, and the shine of the paint job puts it well above the SLX DC in my opinion (I own both). Curado wins hands down.

From: Kevin: Coral Springs, FL 2/5/21

Comments: This reel is 'da bomb'! This is my second 151HG for reason. It is smooth, strong and you can cast long distances easily. I have very large hands and this reel feels great in my hand during use. You can get backlashes if for example your lure hits a branch while casting from a bank because the braking can't react that fast, but most backlashes can be easily fixed without cutting line. That being said it is crazy how well and far I can cast without even having to thumb the spool to prevent backlashes for every other cast! The numbered adjustments to set the sensitivity works well to make adjustments for flouro vs braid as well as conditions or presentations such as a lot of wind, or flipping/pitching. Get one, you'll love it.

From: Tom: Colorado 1/28/21

Comments: This thing can cast weightless baits perfect.

From: Alvin: Bessemer, AL 1/22/21

Comments: Very nice smooth reel, don't treat the DC brakes like magic beans. It's just another brake system and needs to be set up correctly to work. Once you get it set up then you're good to go.

From: Brad: Kingsport, TN 1/16/21

Comments: Bought my first Curado and I'm very impressed. Cast a great distance with relative ease and performs well when hooked up on a fish. Would definitely buy again.

From: James: Texas 1/8/21

Comments: I got this reel to side drift steelhead in the PNW. It is paired with a 9' Edge Rod. It cast the lightest weight with ease and NO backlash. It's officially the smoothest, farthest casting reel I've ever owned. It's definitely a must have!

From: Kevin: Roseburg, OR 1/2/21

Comments: Best reel I have ever used.. I tried baitcasters a couple times and didn't like them.. then I heard about the DC. I purchased my first one and fell in love, they are so easy to use.. I've gotten a few birds nests here and there, but they are very easy to get out. I recently purchased 2 more because I like them so much.

From: Jonathan: Attleboro, MA 1/1/21

Comments: Great reel for a great price. Really nice for casting in windy conditions. Also great for letting your bait fly!

From: Jeff: 1/1/21

Comments: I've been throwing baitcasters for 35 years and ordered a DC reel and have really enjoyed fishing it. I can easily out cast any of my other baitcasters with a jerkbait in any conditions and it's very smooth on the retrieve.

From: James: Lizella, GA 12/31/20

Comments: I ordered the Curado DC during Black Friday sale and fished with it a few times. I hate to say it, but I'm less than fully impressed. I own a Curado K and 2 SLX DC reels that seem to perform much better. The DC 'whine' is much less pronounced on my Curado DC as opposed to my SLX models, and subsequently I'm noticing quite a bit less spool control on this Curado DC. Using it for jerkbait on 12# flouro and seeing much less in the way of spool control. Maybe I got a dud? I've only heard great things about Curado DC and absolutely love my SLX DCs. Any information would be appreciated as I don't want to give up on this barely used reel (3x) otherwise it will just get put in a box and that would be a shame. Thanks to any who offer feedback!

From: Timothy: Hollis 12/30/20

Comments: I ordered this Curado 150 DC and the Alderbaran at the same time. Right off the bat I was amazed how smooth the Curado. I have not bought any new reels in nearly 10 years and matter of fact my last ones were Curado 200E7's. I was very impressed how far the reels have came.

From: Mike: Kansas 12/29/20

Comments: This reel seems to throw light baits into the wind consistently without lashing. On the other settings it is definitely possible to backlash it. Overall, the reel is smooth and seems to cast as well as a regular Curado.

From: Jim: Abilene, TX 12/29/20

Comments: This is the smoothest reel I have ever used. Great for anything from weightless flukes to big swimbaits. 100% recommend.

From: Tyler: Texas 12/28/20

Comments: This is easily my new favorite reel. It's cast amazingly well; smooth, far and seamlessly. The Curado K was my favorite reel, until I used this one. It also feels good in the hand and premium. I'll probably be buying more of these to add to other rods. If you're on the fence with this reel, pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

From: Scott: Indianapolis, IN 12/27/20

Comments: This reel feels like quality in the hand. Is a great caster, and very smooth.

From: Angel: Arizona 12/18/20

Comments: Definitely 5 stars. I've owned a lot of Shimano reels over the years but the Curado DC is in a league of its own. Smooth as silk and casts a mile. Definitely worth the investment.

From: Chuck: West Milford 12/5/20

Comments: Very smooth reel works as advertised you will not be disappointed. You can cast many different weights flawlessly.I would definitely buy again.

From: Terry: Ohio 12/4/20

Comments:Great reel been fishing with it for about a month and it has held up to the ice rain and still works the same so it is very durable

From: Unknown: 11/30/20

Comments: For a $250 I think it should be more durable I've only used it maybe 3 times at the lake and it already lost that butter smooth feel so I'm not to happy with it I think The dc technology is a great thing really nice feature good job on that shimano.

From:

I have a few of these reels, they continue to perform at the utmost level. While fishing Lake Okeechobee you have to be versatile in all aspects of fishing and these reels allow you to do that.

From: Jim: Coconut Creek, FL 11/19/20

Comments:I had never tried this reel before. I heard about it at my local tackle shop that is having difficulty getting stock in this year. So I bought on-line. I used it for a 3 days on a recent trip. Very pleased with it! I used 15 lb braid and was tossing failrly light lures. I tossed it as hard as I could and never back lashed it. This will be the only baitcaster I ever buy again for light lure fishing!

From: Doug: Appleton 11/16/20

Comments:Best reel I've ever owned. Casts a mile and incredibly smooth. I sold my Daiwa Tatula sv103tw for another Curado.

From: Brett: Gretna, LA 11/15/20

Comments: Ridiculously good reel. Get it or the SLX framed version. The Digital Cast mechanism is wonderful. I have the 151 XG version spooled with the sunline 15# casting fluorocarbon line. Works great. I've put more than a few casts on an SLX DC as well. It is also a winner. These things cast a mile with the DC mechanism.

From: Shawn: Tampa 11/17/20

Comments:You can literally cast the line off this reel. Incredibly smooth, power handle is awesome. I'm working on slowly switching all of my metaniums for these.

From: Steve: Portola Valley 10/31/20

Comments: There is reason I have owned a 100 of these. They are the most reliable, well built, best felling, most versatile longest lasting reels on the market. Thank you for never changing your quality Shimano. You just get it right.

From: Danny: Surprise, AZ 10/21/20

Comments: Count me among those who love this reel. Spooled with 30 lb Sufix performance braid with brake set on 2 this reel casts longer than anything else I have tried including Chronarchs, metaniums, and high end Lews. I love the feel of this reel--very smooth. I found myself thumbing the spool to make a soft landing, but otherwise didn't need to use thumb. Yes, if you try you can get a backlash. Can't wait to try some deep cranking as I think this reel will excel!

From:
Marcus 10/21/20

Comments:
The best reel i have ever owned. totally awesome very minimal thumbing required. only complaint is when there isn't 100 percent line cap the 1 setting on the reel doesn't work very well. when line is full the 1 setting works just fine

From: Jake - Palm Beach, FL 10/19/20

Comments: Before I got it I was like ok is this just hype about this reel, so I got one for to see and ladies and gentlemen I was amazed, i don't backlash often but I wanted distance and this didn't disappoint even a little bit, loved it so much I bought 2 more, it's a great reel highly recommend

From: Rico 10/18/20

Comments: The Shimano Curado DC is a great reel. Its buttery smooth reeling it in and even the drag is nice. Casting this reel is a dream. As far as how it cast it's precise and the lures you can cast on it varies from lightweight finesse to heavy punching and everything in between. The was the DC works is amazing. No backlash unless you're really doing something wrong.

To put it simply, this is an awesome reel and if I had more money I would buy a couple more.

From: Ryan - Bloomington, AL 10/3/20

Comments: I dropped mine when i saw a snake on some pretty big rocks from about 4 feetthe side plate doesn't fully close but I completely understand not the reels faultbut the dc system still works fine. Have had it for a little over a year now I still love it.

From: Dan: United States 9/28/20

Comments:I love Shimano reels. I still have Curado 200E5 and E7 that I use and they work as good today as they did when I bought them and they have been totally reliable. I picked up the DC 150 for casting big crankbaits on my windy home lake. You can backlash this reel but only with significant user error. And the high pitched ZING!!! that it makes on a long cast in addictive. I am going to get another one for skipping. Glad I purchased.

From: Unknown: Bloomington 9/6/20

Comments:There's something about this reel that screams top of the line. I've owned Curados in the past, but these are different. It's like getting a 3" lift, putting on a set of mud tires and a Ranch Hand on a Cadillac. This reel is still a Curado, but has plenty of pizazz to make the Metanium owners take notice and see that you came to fish. I love the noise. It will never get old. I have it spooled with 12# Yozuri Hybrid and a Dobyns Fury 734c. I throw chatterbaits, weighted 3/8oz underspins with 4.8 Keitechs, spinnerbaits, swimjigs and 6th Sense Movement 80X. This is the best reel on the market. It will backlash, but you have really try. This reel really excels in the wind. My Daiwa Tatula 100 isn't bad in the wind, but against the DC. The DC spoils you. So get one!

From: Justin: Woodlands, TX 9/3/20

Comments: IMO these outperform the Tatula TWS reels any day! You really have to mess up with this reel to backlash. I have been using bait casters for so long I really dont need the DC technology to skip because I know how to thumb a spool to not backlash. But I do feel this is worth the extra $60 from the Curado K! You want every advantage you can. This is also a great squarebill reel too dont just use it for skipping!

From: Hunter - Carrollton, GA 8/16/20

Comments: It's by far one of my favorite reels that I own. While I can fully admit it's probably not necessary if you're pretty competent with a baitcaster, it sure is nice and convenient.

I got it because I wanted to use more fluoro and this reel gave me a whole lot more forgiveness when it comes to backlashes. On my other reels I've had to pick out and eat the cost of a spools worth of line, but no problems with the DC.

One of my favorite things is the cast control options and being able to switch it to different line and conditions. I've been able to chuck lures directly in the face of some heavy wind with no birdsnest or problems. If it's in the budget, absolutely go for it!

From: Randy - 8/11/20

Comments: FINALLY picked up the 150XG from TW. I haven't even spooled it yet, but you can tell your holding something special. The XG is 8.5:1, so It'll be primarily for frogging and paired on a 7'4" Daiwa JDM Zillion Frog Rod (sacrilege, I know) and spooled with blue/green 60lb Sunline FX2 braid. Once the frog bite kicks I'll write a review on frogging performance. But so far, there's nothing else I can say that hasn't already been said a thousand times. It's a beauty.

From: Jay P: Ontario, Canada 5/23/20

Comments:I own 7 curado K's and now I got a DC a couple weeks ago and have put some hours on it. While it is a great reel and the dc breaking system is cool, I don't think that it is worth the extra $70 over the K personally. If you are new to baitcasters than this would be an incredible reel. The curado K is already an amazing reel that is close to impossible to backlash once set correctly. I do think that this reel is a bit better than the K but I don't think that it is $70 better. If I wanted a reel for small baits, I'd get a chronarch mgl. If I wanted an all around reel I'd get a curado K, and if I wanted a reel for power fishing I'd get a tranx 200. Don't get me wrong, it is super smooth and casts like a dream but so does a K and it saves you $70. If you are interested In trying the DC feature than you will be more than happy with this reel, just don't expect it to be leaps and bounds ahead of a standard curado K.

From:Brendan: Rochester, MN 5/14/20

Comments: Was hesitant but after one trip I was sold.Shimano has me drinking the "Kool-Aid" at this point.I've never had an interest in switching all my spinning rod and reels over to baitcasters until I tried this.Watching friends always messing with the brakes and working to untangle backlashes while I fished made me feel like it was not worth it. One trip out on the lake with this and I'm hooked.Definitely does what it says.

From: Andrew: Grand Rapids, MI 5/15/20

Comments:If you are looking to buy this reel there is one simple answer, and that answer is YES. This reel straight out of the box made me an Immediate fan of the DC braking system. This reel can cast anything from weightless senkos to 1 oz jigs. If you are on the edge about buying this reel, I would not hesitate on pulling the trigger on it.

Comments:This reel is legit! Paired it with a 6'9 Okuma TCS and it's been great for what it's intended for. Reel is buttery smooth as expected from Shimano. The DC sound isn't as loud as some of the other DC Reels if that means anything to you. 5 stars overall

From: Rance: 3/14/20

Comments: I love this reel! Right out of the box without making any adjustments I spooled up 65lb braided line and started slinging it. I tried hard to get it to backlash just so I could figure out its limitations and the reel never backlashed once. Lightweight lures into a 15mph wind with it set to 1 and no backlash. I even slung it like a baseball bat and it wouldn't backlash. I am a true believe it when I see it person, and I was super impressed. The Shimano DC reels will be the only reels I ever buy again!

From: Steve: Decatur, TX 3/7/20

Comments: After reading the reviews on the Shimano SLX DC and the Curado DC I finally decided to order the Curado. I set the cast control knob as directed in the owners manual and went fishing. I decided to use a Texas rigged worm with a 5/16ths weight. I was able to cast with decent distance, but it wasn't as far of a cast as I thought it could have been. I decided to back of the cast control know a little and tried it again. This time I got the distance I thought I should have and never touched the spool during the cast and never got a backlash. We had winds about 10 mph that day so decided to cast directly into the wind and again didn't touch the spool until after the cast ended. There was a very slight backlash so on the next cast all I had to do was lightly thumb the spool at the end of the cast. I was impressed. The biggest cons that I can think of is the low 11 pounds of drag that is max for the reel. The only other con is the reel handle. I would prefer more of a power handle than the small reel handle that comes standard on the reel. Based off of this first time use I think it will perform well for me as so far I'm pretty impressed with it

From: Stan S: Georgia 3/5/20

Comments: So at first I was a little underwhelmed by the Curado DC as I wasn't getting the distance I anticipated and to my frustration I was getting more back lashes and spooling up than I expected. However, it was my own fault as instead of reading the instructions I set it up based on a youtube video. The DC is a bit finicky and it took quite a bit more time to get it dialed in than my Metanium MGL, Lews BB1 Pro or my Tatulas, but once there it really does sing. More than happy with the distance now. It does not outcast the Metanium MGL, but I didn't really expect it too, however it does outcast my Tatula SV TWS now as well as the BB1 Pro. What I really like is that if you are new to pitching and flipping, put it on setting 4 and your golden as you learn the techniques, then slide it to the line specific setting once you are comfortable. Great starter reel if you can afford it. Also, though it casts great in the wind, you might want to thumb it slightly with light baits. I would say in closing that I started out talking distance casting, but where the DC really shines and I think will help folks new to casting reels is that it has great accuracy and line management, so you can focus on lure placement with excellent consistency, which is far more important than distance unless your crankbaiting and trying to get deep. Also, the reel is smooth, the micro module gear work great and you won't be disappointed in the drag in the least, though in this area I have to say I prefer the drag on my Tatula by a slight margin. Great reel, I already bought my second one and it's riding proud on my new Dobyn's Kaden Heavy that just came out.

From: GW: Tucson, AZ 2/6/20

Comments:It was hard for me to pull the trigger on the price. I am glad that I did though. Very impressed and you can really chuck this thing a mile if you get it dialed in right. When I want to buy another reel this will be the next one without a doubt.

From: Matt W: San Diego, CA 2/1/20

Comments:It's an ok reel at best. You're much better off going with the 200k. The 200k casts further and once you get it tuned in, almost impossible to backlash. Having the curado dc on setting one has to be the most pointless thing yet. Not to mention this feels like a brick is strapped on your reel seat. I just don't see what need this fills in the fishing industry, maybe for someone who is new to baitcasters? but who wants to spend $250 when there are better options out there. Perhaps the worst part was how long it took me to sell this reel. Took me over a month to sell this reel.

From: Spenser: Milwaukee, WI 1/21/20

Comments:This is one of the greatest reels ever. it casts great and looks great. I have both the Metanium and Curado dc. They are the same reel in my mind don't spend all the money when you can get the Curado

From: Andrew, Virginia 11/22/19

Comments: Humm, where to start, I have had the metanium mgl, aldebaran mgl, steez a,svtw and the ct and many other high end reels. I have sold all except the met Dc and purchased the curado dc. comparing these 2. The curado with suffix832 40# on a curado rod 7 m xf rod and a 1/2 oz bait will just bomb, I was just amazed that this reel was able to do what it does. I do prefer my Met DC for the feel of it in my hand but for the price get the curado you can not go wrong. something else that no one has mentioned, there's more to a reel then casting distances, the reel is also smooth and consistent and when making those pin point casts, having a reel that is consistent supersedes casting distance. you need to be able to put your bait where you need it and if the reel is all over the place your going to be throwing you bait in the trees and that makes for a bad day. On a side note, yes you can backlash it, I mean come on you can backlash any reel. some have confused backlashing with over run. Also read the instruction manual, it does not set up like a conventional reel.

From: Olman: SW Florida 10/24/19

Comments:I have about 10 different shimano casting reels. Metanium MGL's, ZPI full-tune Metaniums, Metanium DC's, Tranx, and Calcutta Conquest. THIS REEL is the best reel for the money in fishing right now. The casting distance is superb, hangs right with the higher end shimano reels, the construction is not quite as high quality as the $400+ Shimano reels but the performance is totally on par. If you are considering purchasing a higher-priced reel in the $200+ range you will not be disappointed. Casting Braid, Flouro, or mono, no matter the weight, these things just BOMB baits further than anything I've used prior.

From: NV: Maine 10/18/19

Comments:I have a Metanium MGL and this casts basically the same distance. Quality of the metanium isnt there but thats expected for almost $200 less. I can throw this as hard as I can and it wont backlash, although u do have to thumb it a little bit.

From: Bill: Pocahontas, IL 10/17/19

Comments:Great reel, the reason i bought it was because i thought it was a upgrade from the curado k Which it is but if your trying to sling baits a mile without getting a backlash you'll like this reel. That's the only difference i see from the curado k

From: Will J: Grapevine, TX 10/15/19

Comments:Absolutely love this reel! Cast a mile and super strong drag. If you can afford it spend the extra $70 and get this reel over the K (not to say the K isn't a great reel) but this reel out performs the K in every way.

From: Hunter: Georgia 8/22/19

Comments:I have never been a Shimano guy. I have always gone with Lews or 13 and started using Daiwa last year. I came across a really good deal on the Curado 151 DC and just had to try it to see what all the hype was about. Well the hype is real. This reel has truly amazed me. I can throw 1/2 ounce swim baits 70+ yards. Those that are doggin the reel either don't have it tuned correctly or don't know how to utilize this reel correctly. It is well worth the money and I will be buying many many more of these.

From:Michael: Greenville, NC 6/29/19

Comments:Love this reel so much I purchase 3 more. Casts a mile, smooth, and reduces lines problems.

From:Robert: CA 6/23/19

Comments:This is a great addition to your arsenal if you manage your expectations, with regards to casting distance.I have read reviews stating this will outcast the Curado K and others stating the opposite. My experience has been that the DC will generally outcast the K with baits over 3/8-oz.Under 3/8-oz, the K does better with aerodynamic baits (senkos, lipless crankbaits), but the DC does better with more air-resistant baits (skirted baits). I also feel the DC is less-prone to casting issues related to wind, once properly setup.

From:Ross: DFW, TX 6/19/19

Comments:It is an ok reel just do not think that you do not have to thumb the spool when casting as many on here and other reviews have mentioned. You will need to adjust this reel and spool the thumb just like other bait caster reels. It feels identical to the Curado K

From:Unknown: Texas 6/13/19

Comments:Ok. After reading every review I could find, I decided the only way to know was to buy one. I've been using baitcasters since I was 9. I did fish tournament trails full time for 8 years and guided when I was at home. The point is I'R122m very proficient with baitcasters. I think those having issues are not use to a higher end reel and understand proper casting techniques or they are not reading the directions in the box.If you know how to throw a baitcaster, you will be amazed with this reel. I started out spooling up with 16# Sniper fluorocarbon. Set the spool so that a 10" worm and a 3/8oz Picasso tungsten weight would not fall on the spool disengaged unless I shook the rod. It would creep down a few inches. Way too muck tension for my taste. But I set it to 3. Reel is on a heavy Powell Max 7'6 flipping stick. Quick underhand cast sent it flying across the yard. No backlash even though I kept my thumb off of the spool. Off to the lake.I set the reel on the lightest setting, 1 and fired as hard as possible. No backlash. I immediately started dialing back the tension knob every cast without any issues. Then I backed it off until the lure fell as soon as the spool was engaged like all of my reels. I was getting the distance with that worm into a light wind that I get with a 3/4 oz walking bait on my old Curados. Pretty amazing. I did keep my thumb floating just above the spool and touched the spool when it hit the water. I did this once without touching the spool and I had to pull about 30' from the spool. By no means a backlash. So with the tension knob still that loose, I went to 4 and fired without touching the spool. CouldnR022R122t backlash the reel. It did cut the distance down considerably. But a child could cast it on 4. I let my wife fire into the wind on 3. No problem at all. And last, I put it back on 4 and smacked the lure straight into the water. No problem. So as far as the backlash debate, the reel works. Period. That part aside, this reel is ridiculously smooth. No noise or play on the retrieve. The oversized grips are very comfortable. The palm side of the reel is tiny. I'd say smaller than the old Curado 100. I still have 4 Curado 200's that are 20 years old and in use. I love those old reels. But now I want more of these. Follow the directions and get use to the reel. Then adjust as you go and I assure you this reel lives up to the hype.

From: Jeremy:AL6/6/19

Comments:Not bad but not as good as it seemed. I still like it either way. First thing i like, i do not need to thumb it with the correct setting. Second good thing, i like the noise reason why i bought it lol. The not so good in my opinion is casting distance isn't impressive but doesn't need thumbing. After a while of use about two hours the casting distance got better. I believe it just needed to be broken in. My curado I still outcasts it but I need to thumb it. On the other hand, weightless lures excelled with the DC by a little. Is it worth the money? To me, it is a fair price. You may like it, you may not. Just need to try it out. I did hear that some people get annoyed by the DC noise.

From:Jim: Arkansas 5/31/19

Comments:i wasn't impressed with casting distance of this reel at all, it did not meet my expectations, i was hoping for way more distance after watching all the videos on YouTubeand that's not what i got from this reel. , i can cast same distance with a Tatula SVand Casitas. But maybe mine is defectivelike a lot of people are reporting .Either way i will be returningmine

From: Stan R:MO4/29/19

Comments:I have the Metanium DC and the Curado DC.The Curado DC is of course heavier but casting ability still feels relatively the same.As for the DC brakes, I am not entirely to sold. Yes you can backlash and you will backlash this. It may not be as bad but I have had some decent ones. The verdict is out still for me after fishing with both of them for two months but both are worth the price.

From: Gary:Michigan4/22/19

Comments:These reels are amazing! Biggest problems with them are when you buy one, you'll want to buy more!

From: Unknown - 4/17/19

Comments:This reel is totally worth the extra 70 dollars over the K. I own two K's and absolutely loved them but this outcasts them by a mile. The brakes are phenomenal. I can put it on the 4 setting and cast directly into a 25 mph windwithout thumbing the spool and still get an 80 ft cast. setting the brakes to 1 or 2 with a heavy jig will add 10-20 yards on top of the already far casting K's I own. Extremely versatile, silky smooth, and the best brakes on the market. A little on the heavy side but the benefits of the dc far outweigh the extra oz over the K

From: Erik:Iowa4/9/19

Comments:I paired my DC 150 HG with a 7'3 EH Shimano Expride. Best rod and reel in my arsenal. No complaints with the reel. Definitely will be adding a couple more to my collection. I will say my Curado K's seem to be a little more smoother.

From: Marvin N:Kanagawa, Japan3/28/19

Comments:Ive had this real for about 4 month and I absolutely love it. Its not the lightest real on the market but let me say if you pair it on a dobyns 733 you can bomb tiny baits 40+ yards. I use this real for everything from finnese fishing to punching and froggin and I gotta tell you it blows the curado k out of the water. If your on the fence between this and the curado k dont hessitate to spend $70 more, just go with the DC.

From: Ian:Galena KS3/13/19

Comments:So I got this reel as soon as it came out and I have fished it for few months now. I can tell you I have always wanted a dc reel. I ore ordered this as soon as I could. It is smooth cast well and is very comfortable. But the dc brakes are amazing. I have tested them thoroughly. I have used this reel to catch trout and bass. I have fished it when my other reels froze solid from the cold and it worked. But I do have to say you can backlash it if you are not careful. The first trip out I had several backlashes. This was done to me setting the tension knob as instructed in by shimano. After that trip I have it set like a normal bait caster and it has done amazing. Another complaint is the spool weight but I understand this one since there is an electromagnet inside the spool. But it can and will cast weightless senkos very well. Trust me there is a place for this reel and places for others it is not a one reel the does everything reel.

From: Austin:tx 3/6/19

Comments:I held out on this one for a while.Typically I run reels under $200.The DC tech had me interested so I pulled the trigger and now I hate all my other reels lol.Set on #1, I can throw further than I've ever casted before, definitely works better with braid on #1.On #4, I can't backlash the thing.Even tried throwing it against a wall and couldn't birdsnest it.I can't wait to skip docks with it. #2 and #3 work great for everyday usage depending on your line type (#2 for braid and #3 for floro).

From: Beau:Guntersville, AL2/19/19

Comments:Got this reel yesterday from a local retailer. Spooled it up, dialed it in per the instructions: I had it on 2 because I was using braid, and I had a slight wind at my back; also, I adjusted the spool tension just enough to eliminate side-to-side play. Long story short, everything went okay until I tried to make a very hard cast. When I did that, the thumb bar re-engaged, and of course the spool locked and the lure went nowhere. Tried another very hard cast, same result. Them I tried several more casts that weren't super hard . . . no issues. I've experienced a similar issue with a Abu Ora Inshore and a Lew's BB1, but never had this problem with a Shimano.

From: Adam:Tallahassee 2/19/19

Comments:I love this reel. I have other high end brands but I must say this is by far the best reel in the 250 price range. Great for pitching, skipping and casting. Cast like a dream even in the wind. Can really sling a bait. I noticed I've gained 15 to 20 yards more distance. No issues what so ever. If you are in the market for a new reel or been debating on buying this reel I promise you will not be disappointed.

From: Billy:NC 2/17/19

Comments:Definitely one of the better casting reels on the market. The Digital Control braking system is magical when casting any type of baits into the wind. I have mine paired on a G Loomis GLX 783 and it is still a super light and sensitive setup. I will be buying more for sure.

From: Zack - Indiana 1/7/19

Comments:I own a silly Amount of shimano baitcasters .. this one belongs in top 5 . Perfect reel for anybody new to baitcasters. Casting distance matches that of my mentanium. Super smooth - very quiet. Highly recommend this one.

From: Dean - Las Vegas, NV 12/25/18

Comments:Took awhile to get the reel due to the backorder, but the wait was worth it.I got the 151HG model. This thing is legit and lives up to the hype. Are there better reels? Absolutely, but for the price point, this one is hard to beat.No need to thumb the spool at all, just bomb it out there, it's idiot proof.I've been using it on setting 3 with braid and have had no backlashes. Purists will say it's like training wheels and that an experienced angler doesn't need the DC braking, but I don't think it ever hurts more than helps.I'm very pleased and will be buying a few more.

From: Jam:Virginia 11/20/18

Comments:This reel works better on mono/flouro lines compare to braided line.almost no backlash on mono/.floro lines.braid can be a it more complicated but will be able to cast if tuned well. Was able to cast longer on smaller lures than other reels when correctly adjusted.on windy days it is harder to cast long so expect shorter casting but reduce backlashes when throw against the wind.those who don't like it just don't know how to use it.

From: Unknown 11/20/18

Comments:Although I did not purchase this reel through Tackle Watehiuse I thought I should share my experience with with this reel. I own the curado k. as well as the chronarch mgl (newest one). This reel blows both of those out of the water!! Talk about casting a mile! With 30lb braid I can launch a 1/8 jig head with a small soft plastic swimbait 160+ feet. This reel is very compact and feels great in the hand not to mention it's as smooth as ever !! It's almost impossible to get a back lash. Requires very little tuning out of the box other than the line setting. This reel for the price is one of shimanos best!! Looking to buy a couple more once they are back in stock !!

From: Ian D:Lake Worth Florida 11/17/18

Comments:I cant say enough good things about this reel... I'm not sure what reel these other reviewers got but let me tell ya, this thing is an amazing reel all around!!It definitely casts a country mile (further than any other high end reel I own from high end lews to 13 fishing), it's smooth as silk, and no issues with backlashing This real quickly became my favorite and I will def be buying more. I almost hate to use any of my others reels now. What are you waiting for?!? Buy the dang thing already you won't be disspaointed!!!

From: Jonathan :Marrero,LA (NOLA)11/9/18

Comments:This reel is simply amazing! I have used my friends for about a month now and and just bought one for myself today. This thing can cast forever without backlashing and is so smooth it's crazy. This thing is definitely the best out of the high end reels I've used. If you thing the dc is just for the nice little ring it makes you are so wrong. My favorite part about this reel is when I completely bomb a cast and see the line getting ripped out of the spool. Most of the time, depending on the setting, you will see the line just about to birdsnest and then the dc chip starts making some noise and straightens it all up (all during mid cast!). I have only gotten two birdsnests with this thing (both user error) and they weren't even bad ones. If you're on the edge of buying this, just go and do it because you won't regret it.

From: Nick - 11/7/18

Comments:This reel does what it is supposed to, but nothing special. It feels like you mounted a brick to your rod but casts smooth. if you know what you are doing, you shouldnt need the DC in it. I have the regular curado and I prefer that over this. dont really see the hype. solid reel, but not too much better than there others.

From: Unknown - 9/24/18

Comments:I love Shimano. But I'm going to have say this is a gimmick compared to their more expensive DC reels. It super comfortable and very smooth. I found that 3 setting to be perfect for me. I compared it to my Curado K. On the water I was able to bomb my Curado K further than the Curado DC. I've been fishing Shimano baitcasters for over 15 years. I can go to the store and buy any new Shimano reel with confidence that it going work. And adjust it on the fly. Not with this reel. I was having a lot of over runs and backlash. I believe I was caught up in the hype. I personally wasn't very happy with this reel. I'll just stick my new Bantam MGL and Curado K.

From: Dennis - Conroe, TX

Comments:The best reel I have ever purchased. I now have three. I use two of them with fluorocarbon. One is for cracking tubes, the other for skipping. I also have one with 65 pound braid on it and I use it for frogging. I have never had a reel that casts like this one. I have had no problems with it and I hope it lasts like those Curado E's do.

From: Jim:Sarnia, Ontario 9/5/18

Comments:Just took mine out for the first time, best casting reel I have ever used. Pretty hard getting used to not using my thumb haha. Only thing I am skeptical about is the durability. Super powerful and the high gear ratio is perfect for frogging!

From:Uknown: 8/28/18

Comments:I purchased this reel through a local tackle shop, and currently awaiting for this to become avail on tackle warehouse. They are super super smooth so smooth that I prefer this reel over a Shimano metanium!!! For some reason this reel is getting a really bad wrap from a few overly picky youtube reel reviewers like the "reeltest"... listen this dude is little obsessive compulsive... the reel handles great, you may have to thumb the spool slightly but not much. I just took this reel out yesterday to chase some picky largemouth on a very very clear water pond.. had a yum dinger trigged on a 4/0 hook... kid you not I could chuck that bad boy at least 25 yards... absolutely amazing. Its as smooth as the cronarch MGL just has slight handle play! I give this reel a 9.5 out of 10. You will not be let down by the capabilities of this reel it handles every bait well. I prefer this over any $400+ reel. $249.00 can't beat it buy one!

From: Thomas:Chandler, Arizona8/20/18

Comments:So I bought one from my local tackle shop and let me tell you, within a day it is my go to reel when I'm fishing from a bank and the reel I use most on a boat, I have 50 pound braid and on a 7'2 rigged rod and it is a beast set-up, I highly recommend this reel to any angler!
