Amazing reel!I love this reel. It's very smooth and cast's very well. Great for casting long distances and skipping. Give this reel a try, you won't be disappointed.

Great reelAs far as a short term review the reel is great. I have been on a really good bite and have landed a ton of fish up to about 6.5lbs on it. It casts a gambler big ez insanely far which helps in shallow clear water I'm currently fishing. It also cranks them through hydrilla and lilly pads really well paired with 50lb braid. I have only had the reel for a few weeks so hopefully it will hold up long term.

Solid for the priceI first bought the Shimano SLX 150 DC about 1-2 years ago, since then I have bought 4 more. Shimano is a name I have come to trust and this SLX 150 DC is a compliment to their line of products. I have roughly 15 Shimano reels including the Curado 200 and the newer model Curado DC. I actually bought this reel for my step son as a birthday gift since he fell in love with mine when he came down to Florida for bass fishing trip earlier this year. This reel is extremely easy to set up with the brake control and spool control, the new DC brake system is top notch. I use this reel primarily for casting chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, top water and crankbaits. I have separated my Curado's for the heavy grass flipping and pitching and frogging.

SLXFishes better than some twice the price. No issues bring in the monsters or an occasional tree branch. Not a pro but now look like one.

SLX 15 DC ReelThis is the second one I’ve purchased, but with a different gear ratio. Good medium priced reels!

Comments: Broke on my hookset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was using a wakey rig and barley set the hook and broke instantly. Very dissaponted!!!!!

From: dave: salisbury nc 10/2/23

Comments: Great reel. Own several in different ratios. Paired with Shimano SLX A Casting rod and it is a perfect combo for under $300. Outfitted the boat with these rigs and have not let me down yet.

From: Unknown: 8/30/23

Comments: Currently own all 3 gear ratios of this reel. My son uses and loves all 3. We are weekend warriors using lightly and have had zero problems.

From: Unknown: 8/27/23

Comments: Bought the SLX 150 DC because of the performance of one I already have. For a not-to-often fisherman, this particular reel is easy to put into service. The DC aspects make for a positive experience when combined with a one piece Shakespeare 'Ugly Stick' casting rod...excellent combination. Over casting and 'Gordian' knot production on the reel are greatly minimized and most often eliminated. The SLX 150 DC reel is recommended. I thank TacleWarehouse for their prompt service. Take care.

Comments: This is an excellent reel. I've had it for a little over a year, and I'm only now really putting it to use and I wish I had done so sooner. It is by no means 100% backlash-proof, but it's pretty close. To me, this works best with either really light lures or really heavy lures--those are the ones that can easily create overruns, either with a light lure getting knocked back by wind or a big lure just flying off your reel way too fast. But this reel just improves my confidence, and I feel like if I'm fishing a tournament, when I don't want to waste time picking out backlashes (and I've had too many days like that, when I'm way too amped for my own good), this will help me be more efficient.

From: David: NH 7/3/23

Comments: I purchased my first one to see if might be an effective tool for teaching my granddaughters to use a baitcaster. I liked it enough I immediately bought a second one. They work so well my 10 and 12 year old granddaughters who had only used spinning reels prior were using them without my help in less than an hour. Fantastic tool for teaching and they will be replacing some older reels in my rotation.

From: Tree: Queen Creek AZ 6/15/23

Comments: I have been fishing with this reel for around 6 months now. It holds up great, it's smooth, it handles fish 3-4 lbs flawlessly. What I've found though is the DC breaking is just not that good. Definitely not worth the extra $90. It just doesn't feel like the breaks do anything when set to the setting for line (setting 1 for free casting/minimal breaking, setting 2 for braid, 3 for flouro, and 4 for wind/max breaking). I have 30lb powerpro braid spooled on mine, and the setting 2 does absolutely nothing to stop backlashes. I have found it has the same ease to backlash casts as my Lew's speed spool, in fact, it may just be even easier. If I set it to the 4th setting it never backlashes, even without thumbing, but as to be expected, it has really short casts. In conclusion, I would recommend this reel just because it's an overall solid reel with high quality Shimano parts, and it makes a cool zing sound. I would probably say to get the Curado MGL for around the same price point. 4/5 stars in my opinion. Let's be real here. You're not gonna buy a Shimano reel and get a heap of s**t. In my mind this reel is solid.

From: Joshua B.: Colchester VT 5/25/23

Comments: So, why bother writing a review of a reel that already has close to 150 reviews? Because it really is just that good and worth the money. Bought it last year, didn't use it much (didn't fish much, work got in the way), and finally used it for a bit today. It's really, really good. Really. If you have no skill with a baitcaster this will help tremendously. If you have skill this will save you on tournament days when you can't afford to waste time dealing with backlashes, and we all deal with them. But to be more particular, I think this really helps with either super light baits, when you expect to get an overrun (like throwing into the wind) or super big baits that just pull line like crazy when you cast them. Either way, it's just a great reel.

From: Skip: Cornish, NH 5/16/23

Comments: I bought the 8.2:1 gear ratio for jerkbait and top water fishing. So far so good, probably won't buy another reel less than 8.2:1. The high speed reels allows you to quickly recover slack line and cover more water.

From: Rusty: IL 4/17/23

Comments: My new favorite reel. I have been wanting to try a DC reel after hearing all the hype about them and couldn't find a decent deal on the Scorpion DC so I purchased this one. Very happy with it so far and I can't wait for warmer weather and hit the lake. If you are new to baitcasters don't think that this reel will never backlash on you. I highly recommend you learning how to operate a baitcaster before buying a DC real. The DC isn't a replacement for general know how when it comes to using a baitcaster. If you do this you will love the DC reels as it does limit how much fine tuning is needed when switching baits. Later

From: Kevin: NC 2/25/23

Comments: Bought reel for bass fishing here in Florida. Normally I use curados but the price was close so thought I'd try it. Very disappointed, I have never been able to use setting one for increased distance, not even with the knob way tighter then normal, always a backslash. Wish I would have gone with the Curado.

From: Bruce: FL 2/20/23

Comments: Bought the SLX 150 DC reel for throwing crankbaits and the distance i can cast is unreal. I love this reel.

From: Spencer: Wichita KS 2/16/23

Comments: First off I am a loyal Shimano guy! I have owned dozens and dozens of Shimano's over the last 20 years. It's all I own! This reel is like your favorite spicy dish! It's looks good and feels good at first but then crap! These reels are absolute junk! Can't believe Shimano would put this on the market at this price! It may be great for the weekend angler who fishes once a month or a few times a year, but for a guy or gal who fishes a lot, this reel is garbage waiting to be thrown out. Have had two in the last couple of months break in different ways. Absolutely disappointed to only get about 2 years of use out of these. And I maintain my equipment very well. Sad thing is I purchased about 8 of these! Spend the extra money and get a Curado! These things should be sold for $80

From: Unknown: 2/15/23

Comments: Returned the reel. Design doesn't work for me. The small wheel to adjust the brake is not good for someone with arthritis.

From: Unknown: 12/31/22

Comments: Bought this reel on the recommendation of Tactical Bassin as a part of a Jerkbait combo with a Shimano Curado 6'10" medium rod. I am a die hard Lews reel fisherman due to their performance/quality to price ratio. I would highly recommend this reel as advertised it is silky smooth with a solid brake/anti-backlash system and drag. Fishing this jerkbait combination is effortless . I cannot speak to durability as this is a recent purchase however if the performance remains consistent I would consider adding more to my arsenal.

From: Craig: Discovery Bay, CA 12/30/22

Comments: This reel performs exactly as described. I have minimal experience with baitcasters. The couple I have used resulted in nasty bird nests in short order. I rolled the dice on the SLX and am very pleased. I made a dozen casts with zero backlashes. I threw with a lighter crankbait and an SK Hybrid Hunter, of course, the distance was greater with the Hybrid Hunter. It was cold this day so I was not expecting any bites on these baits. I was just exercising the reel. I am stoked to put it into play in warmer water when the Bass are more active. This is a great reel!

From: Russ: Bee Cave, TX 11/24/22

Comments: I just got my first SLX 150 DC recently and I couldn't be more happy with this set up! I have not been a baitcaster fisherman for a very long time and have mostly used pretty cheap combos, the difference in casting and reeling is extreme! I wish I had these on every pole I own!

From: Nathan: Charlotte, NC 11/19/22

Comments: I own 4 of these now, replacing the original green Curados as their parts availability have gone away. They have a great anti-backlash system, are lightweight and a nice price point for what you get. I will be purchasing more as my original Curados are put out to pasture.

From: Jeff: Florida 11/10/22

Comments: The Shimano SLX 150 is the best reel Ii have owned since I been fishing. it took a few cast to adjust the reel the way it needed to be and from that point on it has been a dream to throw. it has a fast retrieve, a strong drag, and it is very compact. hope to be able to buy more of these reels in the future.

From: Phillip: Dinwiddie, VA 10/7/22

Comments: I love these reels. I began with the Curado DC, then figured I'd try the standard SLX, loved that, and figured I had to try the SLX DC. I have since added 3 new SLX DC's, one of each speed. I've been a Curado guy for years, but the SLX is more in my budget range and in my experience functions just as well. These things are smooth casting, drag, retrieval, and dialing it in. Plus I kind of love the whine when casting, which definitely identifies it as a DC. My only concern is that the spool isn't braid friendly so I still put some electrical tape on it before adding braid. I use the braid and a long top shot (25 to 30 yards I'd say) of fluorocarbon so i don't go through as much of the expensive flouro when respooling. This reel held up well when I used it in salt water for SoCal Calico bass, spraying it down with reel guard after each use. No issues now that my target is Texas Largemouth. If this is in your pric e range, I say give it a shot, I think you will be impressed!

From: Unknown: 9/29/22

Comments: The SLX 150 DC is a strong competitor to the Metanium DC at a price point the average person can afford. If you like to cast a long distances smoothly and without issues, the SLX is made just for you. The SLX pairs up beautifully with 14 lbs fluorocarbon for less stretch and better hook set. I like this reel most for crank baits, chatter baits, and swimbaits as it's fast rate of retrieve gives you the speed you need but also allows you to slow down if you need to. This reel allows plenty of line and works just as well if you use a 75% full spool. I personally do not use it worm fishing in heavy cover as it is not designed for power cranking although my friends do.

From: Keith: Florida 8/31/22

Comments: I own 4 of these DC reels and throw anything from 65lb braid to 15lb fluoro with no issues. The braking system is easy to adjust on the fly and works like a dream! Whether you're throwing a frog on heavy braid or a crank bait on fluoro, these reels can do it all.

From: John: Unknown 8/29/22

Comments: While my opinion may be skewed as I've been a fan and long-time user of Shimano reels, there's no questioning the quality and reliability of their products. Upon my first couple of casts, I found the SLX DC very comparable to my Curado DCs. The reel itself feels lighter and could give you the impression that it can't perform or be as durable as it's higher priced alternatives, but rest assured that it does. For those trying to stay within a budget but not sacrifice performance, you won't be disappointed in the SLX DC line.

From: Hawgmaster: Kennewick 8/20/22

Comments: This is a great reel for all levels. I purchased 3 and have had no issues. The reel is super easy to adjust and the braking system is on point. I use one for flipping and the other two for crankbaits and TX rigs. Will be purchasing more.

From: Cuatro: Texas 7/29/22

Comments: Very nice reel. Took some getting used to with light thumbing at the end of the cast. I like the dial brake setting on it seems to work very well.

From: Unknown: 7/26/22

Comments: I bought 2 of these reels to help with my back lash with wacky worm. I also bought it so my Couzan could learn to use a bait caster. It doesn't do like the video where the person totally takes thumb off, but it does help a great deal with backlashes. Couzan is getting better too.

From: Paul: Paulina, La 7/24/22

Comments: Excellent reel. No complaints except I wish I bought it sooner! Very smooth great casting distance and good drag.

From: Jim: Cleveland 7/19/22

Comments: This is the reel that i have ever purchased in my fishing career. It will cast a country mild and is Smooth at butter.

From: Ernest: ORRUM, NC 6/26/22

Comments: I bought this reel to pair with my Googan Squad Green Series Go-To Rod. I have mostly been throwing weighted Texas rigs with it. It works great once you dial it in. I've noticed I have to keep the reel tension a bit tighter than my Lews reels though or I get backlashes. I find it best to set it wear the bait barely falls on its own then tighten just past where it stops falling.

From: Paul: Michgan 6/19/22

Comments: This reel is amazing. When I first received my reel I used it for throwing chatterbaits, I soon realized that I had purchased the incorrect gear ratio and switched to throwing braid for frogs. This reel has PLENTY of torque to get fish out of the thick stuff. The reel is bigger and for me personally fits in my hand well when twitching a frog. Not to mention, this reel casts a country mile. Definitely worth the money.

From: Shawn: Michigan 6/11/22

Comments: This is not going to be popular reading some of the reviews but hear goes. I own 2 SLX DC reels and both are doing the same. When cranking it will almost comes to a complete stop and I have to put a extra effort to continue reeling, basically a momentary bind. Reels are serviced often and worked great for over a year. If it was just one of the reels I would have thought dud but two seems weird since I own every SLX model and all are working perfect except these DCs. Wouldn't recommend this model.

From: Jethro: Maryland 6/2/22

Comments: Really good reel. Casts great especially with lighter baits. Have it paired with a MH 7â0 rod and so far itâs been great.

From: Brad: Grayson, LA 5/29/22

Comments: Such a great reel for the money. Smooth gears, solid, and casts like a dream. You can spend a lot more money on other reels and get less. Biggest bang for the buck I've used in years.

From: Kevin: Arkansas 5/27/22

Comments: SLX 150 DC is the best reel for value I have encountered. Once you follow the setup instructions and make minor adjustments to fit your needs, it's a no brainer. I cast a lot of 30 lbs braid, 20 lb floor without issues. 7 lb bass are no problem on this real. I use it on a Shimano fast tip, med/heavy or heavy poison rod. Killer combination. Enjoy the confidence this outfit will provide.

From: Keith: Florida 4/8/22

Comments: One of the best reels I've bought in a long time. Can throw light weighted jigs on like candy. Smooth and very light. Love this reel. Definitely recommended!

From: Unknown: Fresno, CA 3/3/22

Comments: Great reel for casting, but the brake system feels weird when pitching and flipping.

From: Unknown: 2/26/22

Comments: I've only used a few different bait casters in my short amount of fishing, but when I got my hands on one of these bad boys, I never looked back!!! The digital break system is a total game changer!!! Every once of this reel works amazingly for me so far. I am even happy with the color scheme it comes in. I would definitely give this reel a 5 out of 5!!!

From: Tanner: Bonner Springs, KS 2/24/22

Comments: I bought this for my dad who has not been able to use a baitcaster due to backlash. He wasn't sure what to expect, but after trying it out he absolutely loves it. He said it so simple with the various levels. He loves having a baitcaster now and wants me to get one too. He also like the sound it makes on casting. If you're looking for some help on using a baitcaster this DC model at this price is a no brainer.

From: Nick: Unknown 2/20/22

Comments: Good solid reel. Definitely a louder whine than my Curado DC. Using with a 7'3" medium heavy moderate fast action rod for lipless and cast with ease.

From: Kris: Unknown 2/19/22

Comments: Awesome reel to learn how to baitcast. I now own 6 in various speeds. Great performance and great price point.

From: Derrick: Illinois 2/19/22

Comments: Smooth, durable, tough awesome reel been great for me in tournament conditions

From: George: Unknown  2/14/22

Comments: I bought this reel because im new to a baitcaster reel so i was looking for something super easy that would have a better chance not backlashing and let me tell you this is the reel you absolutely need in your arsenol!! Great reel over all! Now i bought a curado k without the dc brakes and now im a pro at baitcasting!!

From: Greg: Bakersfield, CA 1/21/22

Comments: Own 5 of these reels and love them. Cast smooth and plenty of drag to pull in big fish.

From: Unknown: 12/18/21

Comments: Love the electric spoil control. Switch from flipping to long castâs with just a turn of a button. Works as well as my higher end DC reels.

From: Joe: Tennesse 12/10/21

Comments: This is the first bait casting reel I have owned. I am VERY pleased with the results, it does exactly as advertised! The quality of this reel is top tier and I recommend it 10/10 especially for someone new to bait casting!

From: Edward: Mount Juliet, TN 10/30/21

Comments: For those of you that always wanted to use a bait caster but afraid of the horror stories about bird nesting then this is the reel for you. A Shimano reel at a great price that uses Digital Control(DC) to adjust the braking of the reel without a ton of thumb control. Don't get me wrong, you still may bird nest, but the percentage of that happening is drastically reduced.

From: John: Kenosha, WI 10/21/21

Comments: If you're comparing this to a cheaper reel, it's great. If you're looking at this to complement a higher end Shimano DC reel like a Curado DC or Japanese Scorpion DC, you might be disappointed. It seems like the budget SLX DC reel doesn't have the same DC braking system as my more expensive version and doesn't work as well, or feel as nice. If you've never used a DC reel, and you want to give it a shot, this would be a very good option.

From: Dickie: Unknown 10/1/21

Comments: This was my second one excellent no complaints solid reel easy casting

From: JB: Mississippi 9/17/21

Comments: Worth the money. I have mostly been a Lews guy since I started using a baitcaster a few years back (was intimidated back then.) The SLX DC is NOT the cure-all for backlashes, but it is a very handy crutch. I usually pop a decent backlash once every few weeks. I've been fishing this since February 2021 and I've had one. When I hit a tree branch I didn't see overhead. Can't fix that one. However otherwise there are times you think "oh, that's not a good cast" and miraculously no backlash. It is extremely forgiving. Extremely. I don't really fiddle with the settings much, it's primarily my Texas-rig combo, so I set the DC to 2 and the spool tension to "hit the ground instantly." Worth the money. Buy it.

From: Nate: Abingdon, MD 9/15/21

Comments: This reel just makes me want to chuck and wind all day! Not just the satisfying sound of the DC brake as you send lures into orbit but the refinement felt on the retrieve. I own more expensive reels but the SLX DC doesn't make me feel bad when I abuse it.

From: Clayton: Pittsburgh 8/30/21

Comments: Great reel. Casts a mile. Smooth retrieve Definitely a must have.

From: John: Ashland, KY 8/29/21

Comments: Very happy with this reel, allows me to control the cast and not cause back lase no mater what is am using for bait

From: Unknown: 8/29/21

Comments: The SLX 150 DC reel is the smoothest, longest casting reel I have ever owned. The only catch to it is you have to pay attention to the settings. Read the manual and set the reel accordingly. Backlash is virtually a thing of the past. I recommend this reel to the novice or the old pro...You'll be glad you bought one!

From: Jay: Altavista, PA 8/28/21

Comments: I own a few Curado DC's and this reel is functionally pretty much the same as the Curado DC. A solid reel, typical Shimano quality, just not as pleasing to the eye.

From: Unknown: 8/25/21

Comments: I have reels of all types from several manufacturers, all quality items. This is my favorite & I have two. Great regardless of skill level. I use it a lot to gets friends started on a Baitcaster. The DC feature works to minimize backlash. Also nicely balanced with good distance.

From: Tom: Wisconsin 8/19/21

Comments: I bought 2 of these reels for my frog fishing. I figured I did not want to make my (pretty reels) get too dirty with the slime, grass, and lilly pad residue. I think I made a wise choice. The flat black on the reel does not bother me too much when dirty. The slx preforms great, and the casting is superior to what I was using. I recommend this reel to all those searching the thick stuff for ole bucket mouth. What a great price. I am happy

From: Eric: Port Republic 8/18/21

Comments: My brother told me about Tackle Warehouse and mentioned a few products. I ordered the slx dc and the slx xt and put them both on the slx rods. I can pitch with them or cast what seems like a mile. I have ordered multiple items since, and I will be ordering more.

From: Adam: Postfalls, ID 8/5/21

Comments: Overall this is a great reel, I just wish it was alittle less bulky.

From: Unknown: 8/3/21

Comments: Very smooth reel with little to no backlash if the settings are right. Great reel overall.

From: Jayden: 8/2/21

Comments: Love this reel. I only use the Shimano SLX DC or the Currado DC. Best reel for the money. The DC braking system is second to none. All my bait casters are Shimano DC's. You can't go wrong.

From: Chuck: Vacaville, CA 7/30/21

Comments: I highly recommend this real for the beginner to bait-casting reels. Forgiving, long casts. Easy to setup. Housing is durable and doesnâ•Ât scratch or chip easily. Pleasure to use. Fits well in a medium-sized hand.

From: Unknown 7/29/21

Comments: Straight out the box running it like a boss best reel ive used by far

From: Brian: Illinois 7/20/21

Comments: Great reel! Love the sound. I'm still the birds nest master, but just a bit less now that I have this reel.

From: Unknown: 7/18/21

Comments: One of my better reels sometimes out preforms my more expensive curado dc

From: Ashton: Nebraska 7/18/21

Comments: Awesome reel for the price, and I like the dc technology.

From: Unknown: 7/15/21

Comments: By far the best reel I've ever used in my life. I am convinced that stacked up to any reel in its price point it would blow any competition out of the water. If you are looking to get into the DC reel game this is absolutely the reel for you and you will not be disappointed!

From: Colton: Washington 7/14/21

Comments: fantastic reel smooth cast a mile fits nice in my hand only thing is the spools are too small it would be nice if they have reels that can spool at least 120 yard of lines with 15-17 lb

Comments: I have issues with no feeling.in.my hands so this give me the enjoyment of using a baitcaster not worrying about lots of bird nesting I own 4 of these now and love them

From: Unknown 7/12/21

Comments: Read up and watch a youtube video or two on how to set this reel up, then go enjoy some tangle free casting of a light bait directly into the wind without any backlashes. I paired this reel up with a little ML casting rod and run 10 lb braid with 6-8 lb floro leader for a superb little dropshot  machine. And lets not forget about that sweet little whine noise it makes when casting, that tells you the little computer is keeping tabs on the braking system. This reel is instantly my favorite go-to. My next reel will be a Curado DC- I can only imagine  how sweet that one will be!

From: Doug: Camarillo, CA 7/7/21

Comments: This reel is low profile and far casting. The adjustments are simple to use and can be set from beginner to professional with ease.  I like this reel for lipless cranks using fluorocarbon line. Be sure to follow the line weight suggestions and do not over spool. This reel has a great price point for a whole lot of performance.

From: Keith: Florida 6/29/21

Comments: I am relatively new to baitcasters but I have to say this reel is awesome. The retrieve is so smooth and it casts a mile with ease. I would highly recommend this product to both beginners and seasoned baitcaster fisherman alike.

From: Tim: Wilkes Barre, PA 6/10/21

Comments: Nice reel, the left hand retrieve is smooth and casts well.

From: Mike: Brentwood, CA 6/6/21

Comments: I got the SLXDC151 for Christmas and have now used it twice (I live in Maine). My previous favorite bait caster was a Lews Pro SP, which was my third Lews reel in about the last 15 years. I though nothing was better than the Lews reels which had never disappointed me. However, this Shimano reel is my new favorite. It casts so well with its digital control that I am able to make a variety of casts with ease that usually would have resulted in a tangled mess with the Lews reels. I am simply astounded at how well this system works and at this point cannot imagine using any other casting reel.

From: Butch: Bothbay Harbor, ME

Comments: I love the SLX DCs.  I have thrown the curados and there isn't a lot of difference between the two.  The SLX DC is fantastic when it comes to skipping but I've also started to put it on other rods that I use for open water stuff as well.  I feel like they cast a mile.

From: Unknown: 5/26/21

Comments: Just used this for flipping today !!! Worked flawless, super smooth   Have the dc cuarado also an excellent one for the price point.  Will be purchasing more in the future!!!

From: Unknown: 4/10/21

Comments: Great reel - the 150DC is light weight for its price point, and casts really well. I use them mainly for moving baits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits where i want to make a long cast presentation. I started with 1 just to try it out and now have 3 in the rotation as i slowly replace older reels.

From: Ted: Dallas, TX 3/21/21

Comments: I love this reel the sound is amazing the technology is amazing. You can cast anything a country mile.

From: Unknown: 3/19/21

Comments:I have 2 of these SLX DC reels and 2 of the Curado DCs and both are spectacular. If your budget wont allow you to spend for the Curado DC then dont hesitate to settle for the SLX DC if you can call it settling. This reel is smooth and fits nicely in my hand and you cant say enough about the cool sound of a nice smooth casting DC reel. I have this reel on my jerkbait rod (6'10"M Expride) and works flawlessly. You wont be disappointed. Word of advice, remember these DC reels have to be set up a little differently than traditional baitcast reels. Depending on the type of line your throwing make sure you have the proper setting for braid, flouro etc...I see some are still getting birdnests and you might want to ensure you have chosen the proper setting for your line and remember the spool is only suppose to be tight enough so that it does not slide side to side. If its to tight or to loose then you will have problems. But if you set the reel up properly then it wont take you long before you fall in love with it. Once you have it set up properly and start getting use to it then you can start tinkering with the settings till its exactly the way you like it. But to start with your better off following the manuals instructions for set up until your familiar with it. ESPECIALLY if your not use to a baitcast reel. After that you will be glad you got this reel. GOOD LUCK

From: Charles: NC 3/16/21

Comments: Like most all of Shimano products, works great. It takes awhile not to use your thumb. Excellent casting distance and smooth retrieves. I like the whole SLX line but this is the one to buy for covering water with sp.baits,ch.baits, and cranks. Not a must for short pitching but great for skipping docks. Read the directions for set-up.

From: JmcK 2/23/21

Comments: Smooth long casts. Thought I had a drag problem but found the braid was slipping on the  spool. Put a mono base on spool corected slippage.

From: Dusty: Summerfield 2/21/21

Comments: Awesome reel, the dc brakes work great. Makes casting easy, even light weight finesse baits. Smooth retrieving all around great reel!

From: Ron: Penn valley, CA 2/20/21

Comments: I own a curado k and a curado dc. They're both excellent reels. The slx dc seems to be right on par with the quality I expect from shimano. Great looking reel, butter smooth. Haven't got to use it yet since we're still iced over here in wisconsin but I definitely look forward to putting it through the motions.

From: Shawn: Milwaukee 2/18/21

Comments: I love the smoothness of the reel and its DC braking system which limits the backlash or birdsnest. I will be purchasing another and looking forward to pick up it counter part the Curado Dc.

From: Jesus: Chicopee, MA 2/16/21

Comments: This is an awesome reel if you're the angler that wants to get all the same reels. It's such a versatile and long casting reel. I have a bunch of these now and the Bantams. Solid line up.

From: JBS: KY 2/13/21

Comments: Long time Shimano owner and needed to upgrade. Purchased one then two and now three. These are great reels at very reasonable price. Casts a mile, smooth drags and compact size pair up perfectly with my rods. Only bummer is they go quick. Looking to get a few more as soon as they become available.

From: Dan: Ventura County 2/12/21

Comments: these are great reels, cast far and can handle big fish. caught my PB on it last year and just bought another one

From: Eric: Ohio 2/12/21

Comments: Love this reel I have three now and they are smooth and easy to use even for beginners. Everything you except from a reel at that price. No disappointments. I will be adding more to my collection.

From: Dan H: West Fargo, ND 2/7/21

Comments: Victus XXL DC is a very nice real easy on the eyes ultra-smooth very nice but I can't see spending the extra money compared to the SLX XT I could not tell the difference if I had to buy it again I would just buy the XP.

From: Unknown: 2/5/21

Comments: What can I say that hasn't been said. SoCal Bass fisherman here, this DC SLX is phenomenal. Holds up to everything I've been able to throw at it or on it. You won't be disappointed especially at the price point.

From: Joshua: Antelope Acres, CA 2/1/21

Comments: Worth every penny its a must on your boat if take out less experienced people / clients .. but also just a must have in general. I have 4 of them and they have been abused on the great lakes and Potomac river and is still solid as ever. It's also good reel to learn how to skip docks put on a 6"6 m/h and have at it, Thank me later!

From: Danny: Potomac MD 1/26/21

Comments: Absolutely love this reel, since purchasing the slx dc I've also grabbed the curado dc which is also a bad a** reel. If you're wondering weather it's worth the money, just buy it, shimano has top notch quality that is nearly unmatched. You cant go wrong, these dc reels are amazing for somone who is new to baitcasters, spend the extra cash an get you a DC reel, you wont regret it, you can literally bomb a bait without thumbing the spool an not get a backlash. I'll be a shimano customer for life after experiencing these reels.

From: Scooter: Columbus, OH 1/25/21

Comments:This reel is worth the money, it comes with a bottle of reel lube which is nice. Being the cheapest dc Shimano makes I can't recommend it enough. I would pair it with power pro line.

From: Eric: Virginia 1/22/21

Comments:Got this for my husbands Birthday and he was over the moon! He has been wanting this for a long time. He absolutely loves it. Says he throws further and more precise.

From: Unknown: 1/9/21

Comments:Really nice real. It's very smooth and you can chunk it a mile. I bought it for light to medium cranking and throwing in the wind is no problem with the help of the chip.

From: Chris B: Grapevine, TX 1/3/21

Comments:I purchased the SLX 150 DC casting reel as I am new to bait casting and don't want to spend my fishing time cleaning out spider's nests. It is smooth and easy to adjust. I still have some spider's nests but I am sure this will go away as I learn to use it. I am satisfied with my purchase.

From: Ken: Florida 12/27/20

Comments: Picture this.fish blowing up all around you and you're floating and getting wind blown into the weeds because of what?yea, you're sitting in that kayak picking out a bird's-nest.i ended up cutting it all out and trying to cast with that last feeble remnant of line in my reel, and dignity in my heart.then i saw this.whaaat?a DC reel?!i bought it right away.12 lbs sunline flouro.can i say, i have never ever had an overrun.no.you mess up bad, and it will remind you of your humanity and flaws.but you get it set up right; it is spectacular.i was throwing a jerkbait against the wind.and throwing it far.i will buy another this winter.because that there is the rub.you'll want more. i think my next one will be a lefty reel.

From:C: Sonoma County 12/7/20

Comments: The best money I've spent so far on a piece of fishing gear. The cast distance is insane compared to traditional braking systems. Seems very durable I've been fishing it for over a year pretty much weekly and haven't had any issues. I've never tried any of the ultra-premium Shimano reels but I'd almost feel guilty buying one because for the same money I could buy two of these.

From: Carl: Nashville, TN 12/7/20

Comments:I got into bass fishing about five years ago and had three Abu-Garcia Revo S baitcasters. I recently bought three of these Shimano SLX DC's to replace the Revo's. Wow, what a difference, the money I will save on re-spooling alone will make these well worth it. GREAT and easy/simple to use, they cast smoothly and although not foolproof on the birdsnest, very close to it. I have had zero problems and any minor birdsnest can be pulled through easily, they don't "dig" in. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone, especially newbies who are venturing into baitcasters.

From: Dave L: Clayton, CA 11/18/20

Comments:Im new to the baitcasting reel. Once i figured out the braking system this reel was a breeze to use. It is becoming one of my favorite reels. Paired on a favorite sick stick nothing gives me an issue.

From: Tim: Lake Worth 11/18/20

Comments: You can cast any size lure a mile from a Texas rigged worm to a crank bait. Reel is smooth and can handle fish. I have yet to catch anything of big size on it. Will update after striped bass season.

From: Will: California 11/11/20

Comments: Purchased 2 of these for my wife who is new to bait cast reels and she loves them. The braking system helps her with backlash issues. I have used them also and like them as well. My only complaint is they are a little noisy but not a big deal.

From: Robert: Tulsa 11/1/20

Comments: Simply a great reel and it performs awesomely, it flings texas rigged worms a country mile, and casting into the wind is not a problem. i'm glad i bought this reel and would actually buy another in the future...and recommend others do the sam.

From: Everett: Protection 10/21/20

Comments: Incredibly smooth reels.I now own two of them, and plan on buying these regularly. You can dial these in so you never backlash, but even with the breaks completely off, I feel like I have more control than I'd normally have with other reels.Especially great for skipping.

From: Matt: Yorkville, IL 10/21/20

Comments:What could I say about this reel that hasn't already been said? It looks amazing and works even better than it looks. I thought I'd get tired of the noise that the reel makes, but with time I got used to it. This is the best skipping reel I've got and for the price, it is well worth it. I put mine through a long year of consistent use, and it has held up very well.

From: Jared - Michigan 10/19/20

Comments:I first became aware of the SLX 150 while Marshaling with Keith Combs. As I sat there watching him sling that crank bait a country mile into the wind, I was like dang! What reel is that, it was making a noise (that I have since come to love) that I had never heard a reel make! A couple of weeks later, I kept thinking about that reel. I went on Tackle Warehouse and saw that it was very reasonably priced, and I knew of the performance ability of it. It was a no brainer. Buy it! I did, liked it. And bought another. I may just replace all of my Daiwas and Abu's for Shimano! You can't go wrong with these things. A flick of the wrist and your bait is out there!

From: Tony - Atlanta, GA 10/18/20

Comments:Absolutely love the SLX DC. Have 2 of them and use them for just about any technique down to finesse if I don't have my spinner. Even my 9 year old doesn't overrun this reel, which means more fishing, less fixing.

From: Jeremy: San Luis Obispo, CA 10/17/20

Comments:My slx dc made squeaking noises on the retrieve and I lubricated the roller bearing and it now sounds fine. I used mine for bombing crankbaits and how I use it for smaller glidebaits and hudd 68s. bearings still feel good and using it on lockdown drag hasnt ruined it yet.

From: Will - New York 10/13/20

Comments:The sound of casting this rod is intoxicating. now that I've said that, this is the low end of DC braking. this reel will be out performed by most other Shimano reels. I own one and love it, but not because it is the best reel I own. I take it with me when I go pond hopping, or if I take out the kayak. I don't have to worry about damaging any of my good stuff but I still get that Great DC noise and some of the performance. if you have never owned a DC reel this a great way in, but be careful it can quickly become an addiction.

From: Mitch - Greentop, MO 10/12/20

Comments:Awesome reel, I have all Shimano reels $300 or less, I stack it up against my field and this SLX DC will hold its weight.

From: Jlew - 10/12/20

Comments:Best deal for the money.I can nest any reel and do, but Not this one yet.

From: Dewayne - Kimberling City, MO 10/9/20

Comments:The best bait caster on the market for the price. I have a couple of the standard SLX and now wish I had spent the extra $90 to buy the 150DC. More than worth the money.

From: C: Turlock, CA 9/2/20

Comments:Love these reels. I own 4 of them. The breaking system is great for preventing backlash and the reel works great for any kind of bass fishing.

From: Rich: California 9/29/20

Comments:Brought one of these this year and all I can say is I want another one. This reel is amazing for flipping and pitching docks the control is unbelievable.

From: Tyler: Missouri 9/15/20

Comments:Spend the money and get the Curado DC. I have a few of them, and really like them so i decided to give the SLX a shot as well. The first one had an intermittent squeaking noise on the retrieve straight out of the box, so i ordered a second to replace it with. The second one does the same thing... less pronounced, but it's there. Shimano customer service was no help. All they could do was recommend i return it because it could be a number of things making the noise. Overall not very impressed with the quality vs the Curado. For the extra $60 or so, the Curado is considerably nicer. Smoother, and doesn't make odd noises.

From: Marc: Crown Point, IN 8/21/20

Comments: I've been fishing a Curado K on my heaviest frog rod. I've been aggravated with the casting distance when using average size hollow belly frogs. I tried this reel on a whim. Testing it on the same rod as the Curado K, with the same line and same frog, the SLC DC casts about 20ft farther. However, I'm not entirely sold on the DC breaking. If I set it on 1, it will bird nest every cast unless I feather the spool with my thumb. That's fine - I can do that, but is the DC breaking really doing any good?

From: Brady: Tennessee 8/7/20

Comments:I have to say that this reel is 'da bomb' especially for the money. I have owned 3 other Shimano DC reels (Calcutta TE DCs) and they are still my fav all time reels. They are also 3x the price and much heavier. The SLX 150 DC is lightweight, smooth as silk, and love how it purrs when you cast. I highly recommend giving it a try. You won't be sorry!

From: Mike: Illinois 7/24/20

Comments:I made 15 casts with the SLX DC reel. I had tied on a 1/2 oz jackhammer into a 15 mph wind. I set it on 3 because I didn't want to backlash the first cast and still got a 40 yard cast with no hint of any run over. I dialed it down to 1.5 and got 50 yard cast into that wind and again no problem with any backlash at all. I did thumb the reel when it was ready to hit the water but no thumb until then. I can't wait to play around with it to get the max cast I can. It was smooth as butter. I'm going to buy 2 or 3 more

From: Mel: Glen Ellyn, Il 7/19/20

Comments:These reels are the deal!! Purchased one HG and absolutely loved it. Already have another one. Just great not too worry about wind or birds nest while kayak fishing. Great casting distance and accuracy.

From: Jay: 6/25/20

Comments:hands down my favorite reel, I absolutely love this reel. It cast far, smooth, and accurate, 10/10 would recommend to anyone that decides they want a good quality reel, it handles fish great, and that DC singing will never get old

From: Joseph: Rossville, GA 6/23/20

Comments: I throw baitcasters, always have. I use a metanium, aldebaran, I like the higher end reels for smoothness and performance. I bought a Curado DC about a year ago to teach my son how to use a baitcaster, hopefully without the giant birdsnest lessons. And it worked great for that, ANYONE can cast a DC reel. But then I started using it... skipping docks, windy days... and I really like it. So recently I got a new big rod to run deep water giant crankbaits, and I decided to give the SLX DC a try - I've never bought the "budget" reels, but I don't mind saving a buck, knowing I could exchange it if I didn't like the performance. And holy smokes! This reel is very smooth, every bit comparable to the Curado. Gearing isn't quite as smooth as the Metanium, but for less than half the price, it's way better than I expected. I'm slinging big baits way way out and no thumb required. I highly recommend this reel. I love the idea of saving some money on a reel and then investing in a better quality rod for the same out of pocket cost. Fish on!

From: Jim B: Texas 6/4/20

Comments:Man I wanted so badly to give this reel a good review but I am having drag issues. I have 4 Curado DCs and do not have the same problem on those reels but I use the SLX on my frog rod and multiple times the drag slips. I would crank it all the way down and line would still pull out with ease. It's odd because it doesn't happen every time. I bought this reel to compare to the Curado and besides the drag issue they are very similar.although it's an amazing reel, very smooth, dc technology etc.. I will probably drop the 250 bones to get the Curado imo. That's my experience.

From:Unknown: CA 5/30/20

Comments: I have heard people talk about DC reels like they are the second coming and could cast anything 40 yards. Don't get me wrong the slx and curado DC are outstanding, but dont buy to much into the hype. They do cast great but those of us who really know how to feather a spool can match the distance. The amazing thing about the DC to me is the ease of use. It takes all the fine adjustments out of the equation when casting in wind or changing lures. Doesn't sound like much but most people dont have an outfit for every lure so being versatile is kind of a big deal. The whole "you cant backlash it thing" is almost true. if you wing a rattle trap and it hits a branch you didn't realize was over your head its gonna nest. I dont fish with a ton of brakes and much spool tension, I get more distance and precision that way. For the money I feel anyone will be impressed with this reel and I would definitely recommend giving it a shot. It may not fix every problem you have but it sure makes things easier.

From: Rufio M: New Jersey 5/21/20

Comments:I have been using the Scorpion DC since it was released in 2017 from Japan and it uses the IDC 5 breaking system where the SLX uses the IDC 4 and there's definitely a difference but IMO not enough to justify the price difference. The SLX DC has been amazing so far the 2 months I've been using it. Cast like a dream with minimal effort, drag is smooth when needed and strong when locked down and it's more comfortable palming it than my Scorpion DC. IMO you can't find a better reel for the price range. I will be adding 2 or 3 more to my arsenal that's for sure. Just buy it you won't be disappointed.

From:Unknown: Indiana 5/25/20

Comments: I'm not a review writer... I am only adding my 2 cents because of the way the reel impressed me. I tried to backlash it the last time out and it just didn't happen. Threw a hollow bodied frog as hard as I could with NO thumb pressure throughout the cast without a backlash. Unbelievable! Can't see ever buying anything else!

From: Mike: Atascadero 4/27/20

Comments:Awesome reels. I bought 2 of them, I can switch from 1/4 oz lures to 3/4 oz without touching any settings on the reel. Casts both size lures a long ways, the reel is comfortable and smooth. The directions say to tighten spool tension to eliminate side to side play, I found loosening it barely until there's a very slight side to side casts much further but you will need to stop the spool when your bait hits the water, other than that it's thumbless. I recommend using the provided oil to lube the reels when you get them. One of mine the worm gear was dry and the bearings benefited from a drop of oil each. The reels look well greased though.

From: Aaron: 4/19/20

Comments:Absolutely love my SLX DC 150! Couldn't be happier with it. Love that DC sound when casting and boy does it cast a long way! Backlashes aren't an issue with this reel. Already caught several nice ones on this and the drag holds up great. I would definitely recommend this reel!

From: Lee: Birmingham, AL 4/19/20

Comments:Very impressed! My first DC reel, won't be my last. As an experienced caster, having used budget all way up to Antares and Steez, this reel just makes casting effortless and crazy easy. Pitches well, bomb casts super well. Yup, awesomeness. No backslashes, on any on the settings. A little thumb is needed toward end of cast, just a light touch and perfection every cast. No complaints here.

From: Jeremy: Iowa 4/4/20

Comments:This reel is LEGIT! I have the 8.2:1 and I absolutely love this reel. It allows me to be able to make short roll cast with weightless flukes without any backlash. My wife tried to cast this reel also and she doesn't know how to use a baitcaster and he didn't even backlash. I will definitely buy another one SOON!

From: John: Columbia, SC 4/2/20

Comments:This is my first DC reel, and I love it! It throws weightless soft-plastics incredibly well, even against the wind. It has no problem with 1/2 oz jigs and swimbaits. Very comfortable in the hand and I can't get enough of that DC sound! It is very well made, especially for the price. This is my first time buying Shimano, but I will definitely be back for more!

From: Mike: New Mexico 2/15/20

Comments:Inshore fishing with my SLX DC has gone good so far after a couple trips. It took a couple of cast to get the right adjustments for this DC reel. Never owned one. I've been fishing with it in the saltwater without service. Seeing how long she holds. It's been a couple months and still going. I just wipe it down with a wet towel and with a dry towel after every trip. I'm just very happy to finally own a DC reel. Casting popping corks and weightless lures with no backlash. I never spend over $200 on a reel. This is price perfect for being a DC reel. Good job Shimano

From: Sean: Louisiana 1/26/20

Comments:Not a fan of the SLX 150 DC at all, it actually backlashes worse than my non-DC reels. I have it set up exactly the same as my Curado DC setting the control knob to the point where there is no side play on the spool. Sure wish I would have gone with anothr Curado DC. Really the first lemon I have purchased from Shimano.
*UPDATE*
Update from recent review. Out of the box this reel was just horrible, backlashed bad on setting one and hardly got any distance on setting two (CoPolymer 10 lb test) Spool tension knob had been adjusted to remove play. I just pulled the spool bearings and serviced them. The reel now performs every bit like I was hoping for. I guess there must have been some issues lubing the reeel at the factory.

From: Paul: Chula Vista 11/24/19

Comments:This is my first DC reel and I love it - short game pitching is a breeze, long 120+ foot casts no problem. Hard to pick up the non-DC reel again.

From: Unknown: Yuma, AZ 11/22/19

Comments:Great reel. I've been fishing for years and have owned a few Shimano reels before so I knew what to expect. That being said I was very impressed with this reel. takes a little bit of tuning but once that is set you are good to go. I usually leave mine set on 1 unless I am casting directly into heavy winds. Casting lures over a 1/2 ounce I can cast all the line out. This is my first DC reel and I don't regret it.

From: John: North Carolina 11/1/19

Comments: I buy DC reels for my wife - they back lash a whole lot less - thus letting her enjoy her time on the water more. She's the currado dc, the scorpion Dc, and now The SLX dc. Out of the 3 she says she prefers the SLX dc over the other two - all 3 are very nice. She just says the SLX is a better fit for her hand. personally I think it's just the SLX rod and the cute marriage between the two matching.

From: Anne: Las Vegas 10/18/19

Comments:Just finished my first day on the water with the 151hg DC reel. I'm blown away with the casting distance and furthermore with the "set it and forget it" reel. I use the rod like second nature now with no fear of backlash. As a beginner for 9 months this has me feeling like a pro. I'm able to concentrate on every other aspect of fishing.

From: Rico: Orlando 10/10/19

Comments:Love this reel and the sound it makes you can pretty much empty your spool throwing a plopper 130 only thing is the drag star isn't metal besides that highly recommend it to any angler I still thumb it so I can get maximum distance but if you don' the over run is minimum .

From: Mike SS:Illinois 10/3/19

Comments:This reel takes the adjusting of switching lures out the window awesome knowing you don't have to play around with the tension knob more than once definitely recommend to anyone beginner or advanced using the.baitcaster

From:Mike: 8/18/19

Comments:Wow !!! Performs exactly like it was supposed to set it up on Ark 7'4" mag heavy for frogs 65 lb power pro slick and bombs hollow frogs I'd say easily 150 on number 3 setting you still have to thumb spool when it hits water but wow I'm impressed it was my first DC but in no way my last getting cuts do next!!!! Big thumbs up.

From:John: Ft. Myers 8/17/19

Comments:Bought this three weeks ago. Have used it multiple times since. Cast smooth, smooth retrieve, no backlash. All the quality I've come to expect from Shimano. Love it!

From:Mark: Cookeville, TN 8/9/19

Comments: I own several Shimano reels. None more expensive than the citica. But this reel is the best at casting distance. Line shoots off this reel. I'd definitely buy another.

From: Jeremy: MO 8/14/19

Comments:Purchased this reel in store after seeing a review online could not be happier with it. I'm relatively new to bait casters only have been using them for a couple years. I own a Daiwa Tatula ct 150 ($150) and this blows that out of the water. Was using this with braid on the #2 brake setting and I've never casted so far in my life it's a breeze you almost forget it's a bait caster. I will personally never buy another non dc reel in my life can't wait to use it again!

From: Eddie: Albany, NY 8/13/19

Comments:I am super impressed with this reel. The brass gears are the same as the Curado K, tried and true. Compared to the Curado DC the SLX DC has two less bearings and brass gears. It might just be me but my Curado dc casts a little bit further then the slx dc during a bomber cast. The digital breaks work the same as the Curado dc. Super comfortable in hand. I will come back to do a longevity review and see how the SLX DC will hold up. I'm not worried though cause Shimano makes quality products.

From: Bassfanatic630:Texas8/7/19

Comments:Great reel love that dc sound and I would one hundred percent recommend this product.

Comments:Honestly a very good reel for the money. Don't follow the hype on Youtube with casting bla bla bla. The SLX DC and Curado use exactly the same spool and DC system. They cast equally far and equally effortless. One is finished MATT the other in a Gloss. Curado has Micro modulus gearing and a bearing or two more (BEARINGS DONT MAKE A REEL CAST FARTHER IT MAKES YOUR HANDLE KNOBS SPIN FASTER HAHAHAHAHAHA). The Curado is slightly faster at 8.5 vs the SLX DC 8.2 ratio. The Curado has a metal star drag where as the SLX has a plastic one. Curado fans will buy the Curado just like me. Its more refined but nothing that will affect your fishing.

People are carrying on about HEG gearing vs Micro Modulus gearing like HEG is the plague. Its the same gearing we find in all the previous Curado's that are on more boats than any other reel, so there is no lack in quality and feel. If you wanna get into DC's and you are affraid to fork out too much money get the SLX, the Curado guy wont have anything on you out on the water. Is the Curado DC price tag worth it vs SLX DC in the real world...absolutely not. Is it worth it to the tackle junky...absolutely.

Honestly buying any one of these two reels will be worth it. At the price points a true game changer and leaves the other brands in the same price class with little to be desired. Lets not even get into the MGL reels. Shimano is just so far ahead in the baitcasting game there really isnt an argument anymore. AND if the DC system is patented then well the other companies are stuffed...or they gonna have to pay royalties like crazy to get hold of the technology...Shimano if its the case just dont give it up...

Comments:THIS REAL IS AWESOME, CAST ARE REALLY LONG, NO BIRDS NESTS. HARDLY ANY SETUP REQUIRED. I NEVER PREFERRED A CASTING REEL OVER A SPINNING REEL. BUT THIS ONE CHANGED MY MIND.
