How To Scent Soft Plastics with Nories Bite Powder & Liquid

Since coming from Japan in 2019 to establish a hub of tournament operations in the United States, Bassmaster angler Takumi “Taku” Ito has cemented his status as one of the top competitors and smallmouth masters on tour. Beyond gaining recognition as a Bassmaster Elite Series champion, Taku’s big smile and enthusiastic, friendly, upbeat attitude has made him a fan favorite everywhere he goes.

Taku is also widely known for taking a very technical approach when it comes to his fishing and tackle preparation, as he is often tinkering and modifying his gear to gain an edge over the competition. Taku has also gained particular notoriety through his unique method of using Nories Bite Powder and Nories Bite Liquid to “marinate” his soft-plastic baits for extended periods of time. In April 2026, we spent time on the water with Taku at Table Rock Lake and had him give us a firsthand glimpse into his simple yet incredibly effective method of scent application.

What You’ll Need

- Soft-plastic baits (Note: do not use rubber jigs or TPE/elastomer baits)
- Nories Bite Liquid USA
- Nories Bite Powder USA
- Meiho Water Guard 800 Clear Waterproof Case, or similar plastic container w/ secure lid
- Original bait bag or similar sandwich-style resealable bag
- Patience!

Instructions for Taku's Method

1. Fill Container with Bite Liquid

Take the Nories Bite Liquid USA bottle(s), shake well, and pour into the clear, hard-plastic container. The number of bottles used depends on the container size and number of baits you’re marinating. You’ll want to be sure there’s enough liquid to keep all the baits submerged.

2. Submerge Baits

Take your baits out of their original packaging and submerge them in the container of liquid. Taku notes that any color bait is fine. As previously noted above, do not use rubber jigs or TPE/elastomer baits. Securely snap the lid onto the container after all the baits are loaded. Save the original bait packaging for a later step.

3. Label Container

Stick blue painters tape or a label onto the container lid and write the current date. Taku lets his baits soak for two months, so this step is critical for accurately tracking the timeline.

4. Re-Package Seasoned Baits

After two months have passed, open the container (it will STINK!) and place each bait back into its original packaging or a similar resealable plastic bag.
