Comments: WEAK FLIPPING ROD AND A WEAK WARRANTY I bought this Dobyns Sierra SA766 flipping rod late March '23. I was really excited how light and sensitive it felt and was equally excited to retire my 33 year old Allstar flipping stick that was feeling a little to heavy in my old age. In late June '23 I treated myself to a day of flipping hydrilla and jerking bass. The rod was great until I swung the second six pounder into the boat and the rod snapped. My day was over and I headed to the house, being assured by my good fishing buddies that Dobyns would take care of the rod. The story didn't exactly end like that. After speaking with a rep at Dobyns, I was encouraged to send the rod in for inspection since it was so new. After I paid $35 shipping cost to ship the rod back I get a call telling me that the rod was stressed beyond it's capability and that the new rods have less graphite in them, making them lighter and more sensitive but not as strong as the old rods that last for years, jerking heavy bass out of heavy cover. Not covered by warranty but they would replace it for $60 + $30 shipping. So much for a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Their warranty should be termed a REPLACEMENT POLICY. Unhappy fisherman!

Comments: Sierra 734 is my all time favorite Spinnerbait rod. The action is perfect for 3/8 oz and up. Haven't lost a fish yet and cast a mile effortlessly. Loads up just right for moving baits in my opinion.

Comments: So I've been messing with the 703 model for a while now and it's become my favorite rod that I do own because of it's amazing versatility. It's very lightweight, sensitive, loads nicely, and has handled fish extremely well for the 6 or so ish months I've owned it. Definitely would recommend this to anyone getting a new rod or want to add a good one to their aresenal

Comments: I have had some problems with these rods I bought a 703 spinning and a 734 casting, I used the 703 a total of 3 times then it snapped on a hook set absolutely unacceptable in my opinion while fishing a wacky rig on 8 lb segar floro. as far as the 734, I originally ordered the 733 took it out of the package and the thing was a absolute pool noodle, I originally bought it for swim jigs, bladed jigs and spinner baits, the thing was way to soft, sent it back to TW (amazing customer service here) then got the 734 it was slightly heavier and I dont mind more moderate tips, but I like a heavy to have some substantial and this rod does not, this rod I found was probably weaker then all of my medium heavy rods. even a 6'10 jerkbait rod. then as I fished it I noticed the cork handle started to rotate, it appears the cork handle came loose and it now rotates back and forth about half an inch which is very disappointing and irritating when reeling in a fish. I am working on sending both rods back to dobyns plan in texas for them to replace and hopefully that goes well. but I will most likely never purchase another dobyns again.

Comments: I really do love these rods. I have bought 3 of them. Two spinning and one casting. The action is really nice on them. They have a little bit of a softer tip, which I like. A medium heavy 703 is almost like a heavy medium if that makes sense. Everything is good except two of them have had something on the tip of the rod under the first guide. At fist I thought I had done something to the rod, but after checking on my brand new one it had the same thing. I think it might be where someone had dripped some epoxy or something onto the rod. It's like a little rough jagged bump on the end of the rod. It's hard to explain. I'm very disappointed that two of the rods have this. It doesn't have any affect on how the rod works, but for the price I would expect better quality control. Besides that they are awesome! I would recommend them.

Comments: All I can say is Wow! This is an amazing rod. Extremely light, great balance and sensitivity is awesome. Worth every penny. Already ordered 3 more Dobyns!

Comments: I have the SA703c spilt grip model. Not sure why it's labeled MH, it did really well with shallow squarebills like the 6th sense Curve 55. I also used 3/16 oz jig head with a keitech and the rod has not disappointed. I plan to continue using for weightless senkos, but might keep a whopper plopper 90 on it, if not smaller keitechs. Lots of give will help keep fish pinned with treble hooks, but works well for exposed single hooks too. I only fished a weightless senko once with no bites so Iâ•Âm not sure how it will do on a Texas rigged plastic and 3/0 or 4/0 hook yet.

Comments: The Dobyns Sierra is a good rod for the price. The actions are a lighter than advertised, a heavy is more of a medium-heavy. The sensitivity is on par with other rods around this price point, but this rod is very light and balanced. Overall a good rod for the price.

Comments: I purchased a 734 for my jigs, Texas rigs, and mid size top water. It is a absolutely awesome rod totally my work horse rod.
From: Sam: California 1/22/21
Comments: I bought the 703C and have been using it for a year, and this rod is great for the price. It's very light, balances well, and best of all, I can throw weightless baits easier than the other MH rods that I own. Perfect rod for flukes, t-rigged senkos, and finesse jigs, and lighter topwaters. Keep in mind that this is not a super technique specific rod. A little bit on the lighter side for a MH but that fits my fishing style perfectly. I wouldn't throw a heavy jig on this rod. (5/16 to 3/8 is perfect.) I've been very impressed with this rod's feel, performance, and ability to keep fish pinned. Go buy one! You won't regret it!

Comments: A great rod especially for the price. The rod is balanced and pretty light overall, good craftsman ship plus the rods look amazing. My one word of advice if planning on buying a Sierra go a power up a med heavy is more of a medium and a heavy is more of a med heavy so be mindful when buying other than that great rod.
From: Owen - 10/03/20
Comments: I picked up the SA 703 split-handle, I have been EXTREMELY impressed. I've done a little bit of everything with this rod, I've thrown jigs, texas rigs, small swimbaits and underspins, shakeyheads and even 1/8 once okishira screwheads. Awesome rod for the money. The weight and balance are on point. The sensitivity is also amazing.

Comments: Don't see any comments for the 6'8" so here is my experience with the Med. 2' power, non-micro guide model which handles a blood knot for leaders with no problem. It has amazing balance between tip and backbone with that super versatile tip that the more expensive rods have like an Expride, or Loomis IMX. It seems to match whatever weight lure I am throwing softer for light baits, less soft feel for heavier ones. Yet, even as a '2' power, it has the backbone to handle fish 5 lbs. and up. Don't be concerned about the Alconite guides chipping; they are hard and solid. Sierra is very light, noticeably lighter than the Fury as the Tactical Bassin' boys have pointed out in one of their Buyer's Guides. I use the Med mostly for throwing baits rated below the 3/16 oz range, like 1/8 oz jig heads with a TRD, or 4" worms on a 2/0 st. shank, or 1/0 EWG and 1/8 bullet. But, I have used it for 1/4 oz chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and Keitech swimbaits, even finesse swimjigs. It has been excellent for a variety of finesse baits and even a 3/8 oz chatterbait.
From: Ed: Champaign, IL 5/31/20
Comments: Good quality rods, light and sensitive with a good backbone, but the ceramic guides chip and the will fray your line badly, you have to be a little more gentle with these.

Comments: Purchased the SA 735C (7'3 Mag Hvy, Ex Fast) last May, and intended on it to be my frogging, pitching and flipping rod. When it arrived, it had great build quality and looked perfect. When I took it out on the water for it' first trials though, I noticed that, for being a Mag Heavy with an Extra Fast action, it was really a lot lighter of an action than advertised, more like a Fast or Moderate-Fast, and instead of Mag Heavy, it was more like a heavier Medium Heavy. I was hoping for almost a broomstick, something I could reliably and confidently throw frogs on, but it always felt a little underpowered, and I ended up losing a few frog fish due to that. The actual rod is amazing, I love it for open water jigs (it definitely has some decent sensitivity) and even smaller glide-baits with thinner wire hooks, but as a frog rod, I'm not sure how confident I am with throwing this rod. I intend on buying a 766 Sierra as I'd rather have more power than not enough power when aiming to pull fish out of pads or sticks or set the hook with a frog (even though it is a flipping rod). All in all, its a great rod, but Dobyns does seem to rate their rods on the heavier side than what they actually are.

Comments: Bought the 735 Sierra micro guides - 7'3 Mag Heavy - thanks to Tactical Bassin. I was so impressed how versatile this rod is. Heavy jigs to swim baits to punching and frogging. I bought the 705 - 7' Mag heavy non micro guides for braid to leader scenarios since some tournament lakes here in Minnesota, the bass are trained and line shy. Bought a 6'8 Medium to throw finesse baits on braid to leader. You can't go wrong with Dobyns. Thanks to Dobyns and Tactical bassin info and recommendations, keep making great products that just work!

Comments: Can't say enough good about this rod. Incredible sensitivity for the price. I got the 7'3 mag heavy for frogging and finesse musky/pike fishing. Paired it with a shimano I citica and 65 lbs power pro maxcuatro. This rod is lighter than you would expect for a mag heavy but still has enough backbone for setting hooks on a frog. I mostly use this to throw small musky gliders (4" phantom softails), small jerkbaits for pike and skis like the husky jerk 14, 4.8 keitechs and Heavy wire swim jigs like the no-jack from dirty jigs. It loads up enough to keep big fish pinned on treble hooks and has the power to set a heavy wire hook into a bony pike mouth. If you want a frog rod that is incredibly versatile, this is as good as you can get for the money.

Comments: Another winner from Dobyns. The sierra just has a great balanced feel and the blank is very crisp in feel. I bought one as a back up for my son and I usually fish xps and hps but I am really impressed with the sierra.

Comments: I own the Sierra 734c and it a my jig/texas rig rod paired with a shimano chronarch. This rod is very light and sensitive. It is my most expensive rod at the moment so keep in mind I'm not comparing it to more expensive gear but I do own two Dobyns fury's one of which is also a 734 and for the extra 60 bucks this rod is a no brainer to step up to if you can afford it. I'm only speaking on the 734 from each line, the Sierra is way lighter and much easier to detect bites and whatever cover you are working your bait through. I highly recommend and the action is not a pool que type of heavy but that is great because you keep the hook pinned but there is still plenty of backbone to nail home a heavy flippin hook or superline hook. I love jig fishing with this rod and recommend to anyone in the market for one.

Comments: I bought a SA 703C for my Christmas present last year. I have been using this rod for Senko & similar baits for the last 6 months. I wanted to get some time on the water before giving a good review for a item. This is my first Dobyns rod, it is very light well balanced & comes with high quality components. I would highly recommend on the Sierra Series.
From: Spencer: NE 9/11/19
Comments: I have the 703 and I love it. This is the lightest rod I have, very light and well balanced. Very good sensitivity, I would highly recommend the Sierra Series.
From: Unknown 7/28/19
Comments: I had 3 Fury series rods and wanted to give this line up a try. Man was I glad I did, these feel about half the weight and have much better guides than the Fury. That was about the only complaint I had with the Fury line and these make up for that. They definitely are a slower action than a Fury with the same listed action so keep that in mind. Do NOT hesitate to pull the trigger on this rod I don't think you will find anything much better at under $200 especially if you can get them on sale.
From: Tyler - Goshen, IN 12/25/18
Comments: Recently purchased the 734. Love the rod, but seemed more like MH action than a true Heavy action. Again, I love the rod, and will use it tons, just not for the techniques that I had originally planned to use it for.
From: David: KY 7/17/18
Comments: **Update** to my review below on the 735. This rod began by having a very stiff, pool-cue-like action, and cast even 3/4 oz jigs that had big trailers on them like it was nothing. After catching 30-40 or so fish on it (and trying to horse several jigs loose from snags), the rod has significantly "broken in" so that it now has more of a moderate action, and feels a bit underpowered for throwing big 3/4 jigs, at least for my personal preference. Still LOVE this rod . . . actually the combination of really strong backbone and moderate-ish action is pretty neat. Still a sweet rod for single-hook applications and frogs, but could also be used for other stuff as well, including some treble hook baits. Killer workhorse rod. If you're on the fence, get one. 5/9/18

Comments: I have two 704C and use them for jigs, creature baits and big worms, Texas style. I cannot express how happy I am with the rods. By far the best rod I have used when to compared to rods in the same price range. It's rated heavy/fast, but is light and balance compared to similar rods in the same price range, action and length. It has very good sensitivity, but not overly so. Had an unfortunate experience with one of them breaking and a new rod was delivered within two weeks. It was covered as a manufacturers defect and was replaced no questions asked. First class operation!

Comments: I have rods in every Dobyns series (less colt) and they are all amazing...imo the best bass rods on the planet...all are light, balanced, durable, comfortable, sensitive...on an on (3 power my absolute favorite) but, based on price the sierra series are the best value in the line up...absolutely awesome rods...for 160.00 you will be hard pressed to find a rod that is even close
From: bob: fountainville, PA 2/7/18
Comments: Best bass rod under $200 hands down. Super light, balanced, and sensitive with a blank very comparable to the last model Champions.

Comments: I got the 734 on love it! I have a fury and love it and i was looking to get into some of dobyns Higher priced rods. I love this Sierra! It has a really soft tip but a lot of backbone. It is very light and sensitive! I paired mine with my Shimano Chronarch MGL and 15 Sunline Assassin and it balances out perfectly! I mainly use it for jigs. I am slowly converting all my rods to dobyns. I would highly reccomend this rod!

Comments: Recently ordered the 684 as a (short) frogging rod. It arrived in great condition. I took it out of the tube and was immediately impressed with the balance and lightness of this rod. Also, the guides were very straight and there were a lot of them for such a short rod--this is somewhere where some makers will skimp. It wasn't as stout as I had hoped. I knew it would be an incredible all purpose rod but I didn't need another all purpose rod, so I sent it back. However, it was hard to do so because it was such a sweet rod. Great job, Dobyns!
From: Adam: Tallahassee, FL 8/25/17
Comments: I purchased the 7'3" heavy for frog fishing, and it's great! Really good balance and sensitive! I think this rod probably has the best quality of materials, used on it, out of all other rods in its price range, so that's a plus. It feels very similar to my Phoenix m1 heavy rod, I prefer the tip on the Phoenix but I hate the hook keeper and the trigger grip on the Phoenix. Much better on the dobyn's
From: Ryan: Wichita Falls, tx 8/8/17
Comments: Wow!! I've fished all kinds of rods from 30-120 bucks, and while some of those rods were good None even comes close to the lightweight, sensitivity and feel of this rod! I was skeptical of paying 160 for a rod, but the moment I put it in my hands I was a complete game changer! Amazing feel and have no doubts of the strength, power and durability of this rod! Just learning to jig fish-1/4 ounce, 3/8 - 1/2.... The Dobyns Sierra 704C has enough backbone and just enough tip to make casting a breeze! I'll be buying the 683C soon for texas rigs 1/8 to 3/8 ounce.. Cant wait! >>>>Couldn't ask for a better rod and Tackle Warehouse is second to none! Outstanding customer service!!! I wont be doing business with anyone else....

Comments: Pleased with the 7'3" Heavy rod. Amazingly light weight. But, I don't like how it is advertised. I thought I was buying a full cork grip handle. But instead I got a split grip. No where on my order did it say I was going to get a split grip. 10 out of 10 for the rod. 2 out of 10 for the advertisement.

Comments: For Dobyns Sierra series split grip med. heavy This is a great Rod I have used it twice since buying it in December I have thrown 1/2oz. football head jigs . its a matter of time before I can put a smallie on the end of this rod its light weight with a good sensitive feel . I have 4 rods that are 7+ ft in length from different manufactures. All are in the same price rang This one has a better feel then and fits my style of fishing well, I will recommend this rod to anyone looking for a new rod you won't be disappointed in it .

Comments: Got the 734 and 735 both are light and sensitive gotten paired with bb1 pro's great match great rods for the price!!
Comments: Just got to use the 7'6 flipping rod for the first time today. Ripped a jig out of branches & was immediately SLAMMED by my PB 6.79 lbs largemouth. Handled the entire situation perfectly & the balance is awesome. This is my second Dobyns rod & both have been awesome. I'm sure this whole line is great. You won't be disappointed.
