First Dobyns but most certainly not the lastI was hesitant to pull the trigger on this rod at first because of the price. When I received it, I was immediately sceptical because nowhere in the description did I find that it had an extra fast tip. This is my BFS rod and I didn't want anything about it to be fast. However, I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. I have used it on several occasions now and I have not lost a single fish. It works great with all of my smaller sized trebel hook plugs. I would highly reccomend the 7'4" light/mod/extra fast rod to anybody lookling to step up their BFS game. Thank you.

Excellent BFS rod for the beginnerI am so happy with my newly ordered Dobyns Sierra 701C. I previously purchased a rod from the same series only a bit longer and softer action ( 740C ). The 701 is a great finesse rod for your typical single hook lures like TX rigged worms, drop shot baits but it handled treble hooked baits just fine ( first fish on the rod bit on a Megabass Karashi). It is rated for 1/16-5/16 oz baits but I feel like the happy spot is between 1/8th and 1/4. Personal preference really. One of the first fish I caught on the rod was a stud over 5 lbs and the rod telegraphed the tap clearly and definitely pushed the hook through the worm and into the roof of the mouth with no problem. The fish tried running and tried digging into cover at shore but the rod kept the fish pinned through it all ( on 6 lb test no less) and have me just enough backbone to put some pressure on it and lead it away from cover when it dove for it. I have my rod paired with an Abu Garcia Zenon LTX and the balance is great, light and responsive to wrist twitches and makes roll casts easy. Dobyns has hit it out of the park with this series, especially for us new BFS guys that don’t want to spend a grand on a combo.

Ultra FinesseCurrently I've been downsizing gear. I have been drawn to BFS setups and the precision of using baitcasters for some spinning applications. I have a few Dobyns rods from the Fury lineup. When I saw tbe Dobyns Ultra Finesse lineup I got the SUF 701C rod, well built, quality parts, sensitive. Feels lighter than my favorite walleye spinning rod.

I use this rod 700 for all my fast BFS baitsTeamed with your favorite BFS reel this rod flat out handle a good fighting fish which is every fish. the little fish fight like big'uns and if you like hard fighting wait till you tie into a 2 and up. With light line you will definately learn to use your drag. Good luck and tight line.

BFS several different rods to choose fromI have the 700 for reaction baits that have treble hooks, and the 691 for single hooked bait. Teamed with a BFS curado reel IMO the best set up for the price.

Light but mightyFirst BFS rod I’ve ever owned. I have other light spinning rods, but it just feels different when in a bait casting setup. I’ve landed 2 decent bass in the 2-3lb range this winter, and compared to my spinning rods it just felt more solid and stable in my hand when the bass would make a run. If you’re considering a BFS setup, highly recommend the 6’9 light.

Great productHave used the rod several times now, great action very comfortable in your hand. Paired with a kastking reel. I can cast 20 yards into the wind with a 1/16 oz jig. Will be buying a second rod in the near future.

Dobyns 701c bfs rodI have not fished this rod yet. I have tied on a casting plug and pitched and cast it a lot. I have owned the 700c bfs rod for a few years and love it for small cranks and swimbaits. Got this one to throw small texas and neko rigs and small jigs. I think it will be great for those techniques. It is definitely faster than the 700c. Highly recommend!

No complaintsBest rod when I got this rod a few weeks back I took it out and have not put it down since it is so much better then the Shimano poison adrena and the lightest rod on the market I have ever found.

Comments: I have the 7'4" L rod paired with a tuned up Daiwa Alphas mostly for hair jigs - I can cast them a mile and it handles the fish very well. Very pleased with this rod. At first I wondered why it had so many guides, but after fighting a few fish it made sense. Great rod for bfs gear.

Comments: I recently purchased the Sierra 7'light and paired it with a curda BFS reel and Im highly satisfied with this rod! My first time out was blast catching bass. The Rod is perfect for small crank baits, I used a RAPALA balsa wood floating bait with 4lb test flouro. I was able to cast it 35/40 yards. I highly suggest this rod, just make sure that you use the right reel with it! It also has enough back bone to land bigger fish.

From: Jay Wash: Valdosta, Georgia 5/21/23

Comments: I have a BFS 7' light 701 paired with an Aldebaran BFS (here in Europe the less expensive Curado BFS arrived later): the combo is delightful! I used to fish drop-shot, down-shot, small badebaits, micro-squarebils with a 6Lbs fluoro or 4Lbs braid-to-fluoro. Although extremely sensitive, this rod is parabolic enough to help in short pitching and in very long castings with such light tackles. Fight with any fish is extremely pleasant and line breaks are extremely rare, even with 22" bass or with 32" pikes. Amazing rod!

From: Fabrizio: Venice (Italy) 5/17/23

Comments: I got the 7' light to pair with a Shimano Curado BFS reel. Amazing setup for small swimbaits, tiny cranks and ned rigs. Best to use a true BFS rod as opposed to a whippy UL rod. Lots of fun pulling in smallies on this setup.

From: Don: 2/23/23

Comments: I needed a couple rods for my BFS reel but didn't want to buy from overseas. I just received my 650C from T.W. and this is one sweet rod. My 16' and 22' Aldebaran's fit perfectly. This rod is so light and the action is great. Not to mention the sensitivity is spot on. I also purchased the 691C from Dobyns (T.W. was out of stock at the time). The 691C is more of a one power but perfect for any of BFS reels. The 650 is a 0 power/extra fast solid tip whereas the 691 is more of a 1 power fast action tip. Kills 2 birds with one stone. Thanks, T.W. for your super fast shipping and great customer service.

From: Phil: P.A. 12/26/22

Comments: I dove into BFS earlier this year and just picked up a Sierra 691. Had it out several times already and it is a phenomenal rod. I have several Dobyns rods for "regular" bass fishing and love them too. The 691 loads well and is very sensitive. Works great for single hook applications like weightless 3 inch senkos and fluke jrs, but can also handle 1/8 oz hard baits very well. I have even used it for 1/8 ounce Stanley spinnerbaits. Very lightweight. Overall, it feels like a downsized premium Dobyns rod which is a great thing.

From: Unknown: 12/11/22

Comments: This is an amazing rod for it's intended BFS purpose. I have used the 700 version exclusively for small swimbaits. SLX BFS reel with 7lb sunline sniper and a 1/8 cool baits/swimbait has converted many of my friends. This is an amazing rod that loads so well I have caught multiple 4 lbrs in open water on this. I stepped on my last one and had to order a new one, but I just can't go without that set-up!

From: Jesse: Fredericksburg, VA 11/28/22

Comments: Great rod for throwing light baits and plenty of backbone to handle larger fish. I've paired my 7' rod with a KastKing Zephyr reel upgraded with ceramic bearings and after a little practice can toss tiny baits as far as I can heavier baits on my heavier rods.

From: John: Fayetteville, NC 4/26/22

Comments: I have been using this rod all last season. Very well designed. This is a true bass BFS rod and not a whippy UL rod. I really like the ability of this rod to fish a wide variety of baits. Does well for bottom contact baits as well as moving baits...small jerkbaits too. Gives you the feel of your M or MH bass rod but, the ability to cast downsized versions of your favorite bass lures. Great rod.

From: Unknown: Michigan 2/18/22

Comments: I now have two of the 7 foot models that I use to finesse fish for river Smallmouth. Ultra lightweight and well balanced, all it takes to bomb an 1/8oz hair jig is a flick of the wrist. Handles 4 lb + Smallmouth without issue and is just a pleasure to fish.
