Comments: I bought this rod and figured it deserved a much needed in depth review, ( seeing there was none ). firstly this rod is very light for the price. It has an excellent taper providing a good balance between tip and backbone and is true to the fast action rating. I purchased the 7ft 3in medium heavy and compared to a tatula XT I would say these rods run just slightly stiff. I have had issues in the past with Okuma's salmon rods tips breaking easily, making me concerned to try this rod. However with their new UFR technology, this rod has a noticeably stronger tip to it with a lot of lifting power. I bought this as a replacement to a broken Tatula XT ( lightly pinched in a door ) and this rod has already survived the same and being shipped to me in a cardboard box ( sportsmanswarehouse's fault ). The sensitivity is fair for the price but lacking somewhat for what I know okuma can do. testing the sensitivity by dragging my bait across the bottom, the tip do esn't give off as much of a vibration as the tatula did, but bottom contact can be felt and so can bites. The grips are a quality soft cork and the perfect thickness for medium sized hands. The reel seat is non abrasive polymer/plastic, spacious and holds the reel snugly without backing off. I personally like sea guides and there components they incredibly durable and smooth. the only issue I've ever had is braid to leader knots ( blood knot, FG knot...ETC ) can strip out the zirconium insert in the tip IF you are rough on pulling them through. The one year warranty is totally fine and Okuma is awesome at taking care of their customers with any accomadations needed. overall this rod is an awesome budget option for many species. My only regret is NOT buying this rod from tackle warehouse because they charge $10 more. Then getting my rod shipped to me zip tied to a cardboard box and a week late lol.
