Overview
Born for bait finesse system fishing techniques, the Shimano Aldebaran BFS Casting Reel combines a lightweight magnesium frame and specialized braking system to tackle any finesse technique. Featuring Shimano’s Finesse Tune Brake(FTB)system, it reduces the spool’s weight by moving the braking unit from the spool to the palm side plate, which reduces the force needed to turn the spool and allow anglers to effectively cast lightweight tackle. The FTB system also automatically adjusts to slow down the spool only when braking is needed to prevent backlashing, unlike traditional magnetic brake systems. The Shimano Aldebaran BFS Casting Reel further enhances casting performance by leverage a MagnumLite(MGL) Spool III to reduce start-up inertia for unparalleled control and accuracy.
To increase power and smoothness, the Shimano Aldebaran BFS Casting Reel is equipped with state-of-the-art MicroModule Gear technology, which is an ultra-refined gear tooth design that delivers seamless engagement and power transmission for uncompromised strength, noise reduction, and improved smoothness. Fitted with Cross Carbon Drag system and Exciting Drag Sound so you know when the fish is taking line, similar to a spinning reel, the Shimano Aldebaran BFS Casting Reel is the pinnacle of finesse baitcasting reels.

Comments: I've been looking forward to this reel for a long time. I've only had it out twice, but so far I am disappointed and puzzled. It is a beautiful expensive reel but I'm having difficulty casting it, especially into the wind. I have been having fun with BFS reels for 5 years now and have 6 BFS reels including a Curado BFS. I don't have problems with my other BFS reels but I sure do with the Aldebaran. I have changed the line on it several times trying mostly 6-8# braid with a 6# FC leader. I am casting 1/8 jigs and darter head worms. I have to thumb it all through each cast to prevent over runs. I've tried every adjustment combination on the reel. I can tighten the knob and or the FTB brake and make short casts without a problem, but then all of my other BFS reels can outcast it. I'm beginning to think something is wrong with it.

Comments: I am in Europe, so I bought it in our market two years ago, and I experienced it a reasonable amount of time. I also had a "limited edition for Jpn" model many years ago, but this is another level! This reel is awesome! It casts as smooth and far as a spinning reel, even with 2g (1/16 oz) overlall weight lures. The spool is the lightest I weighted, meaning it has the lowest moment of inertia (it starts to rotate with the minimum of solicitation). If you can afford, you can trust it. I am anxious to compare it with the less expensive Curado BFS, which arrived in Europe just recently (American and European Shimano marketings are inverted... and closed).

Comments: Best BFS reel on the market. Got mine from Japan a year ago and its easily my favorite of all the reels i own. it casts even 1/16th oz a mile and is just lighter than air and smoother than silk. Can't recommend it enough.
