Overview

A pinnacle of advanced technology and engineering, Shimano SLX 70 A Casting Reels are designed to excel in various fishing situations including finesse presentations and close-quarter power techniques. Featuring the MGL Spool III, Shimano's lightest spool to date, the SLX 70 A ensures quick startup by significantly reducing inertia so you can bomb casts into the wind and catch fish further away from the boat. SilentTune technology minimizes spool vibration and provides anglers with remarkably smooth retrieves, while the SVS Infinity braking empowers users with a spool control interface for on-the-water adjustments and enhanced accuracy.

Crafted with a metal HAGANE Body, this compact reel guarantees strength and rigidity, eliminating flex under heavy load for unparalleled fish-fighting power. The Cross Carbon Drag system offers an extremely powerful and durable drag, ideal for tough battles with big fish. Combining an infusion of industry-leading technology and performance in a compact, ergonomic package, the Shimano SLX 70 A Casting Reels offer serious anglers an extremely versatile reel at an unbeatable price point.

Got me twice now!Had the previous gen slx 70 and it developed a wear ring around the spool on the handle side which eventually began grinding. It was less than a year old. Warrantied it and purchased the new model assuming any issues obviously wouldn’t carry over. Nope, same wear developing on the handle side of the spool. Mind you I have 15 other shimano and daiwa models way older than a few months and they all still perform as new. I’m well past the learning how to set up a reel stage. Super disappointing because this reel is so fun to use! Will absolutely zing a lipless a country mile! But I can’t help but believe something has been missed in the r&d stage. As much as I love all my other shimanos, this one model is pushing me away from the brand and causing me to branch out more when reel shopping. If you’re into the 70 mgl stuff I would suggest bumping up to the curado. Perhaps I’ll do the same before giving up on shimano totally.

Good not great....I loved the 1st gen. model but the new one is not the same....Shimano went to a smaller handle the 1st gen. had the same handle as the curado 150 mgl...seems like they went a little more budget to justify the price difference... Overall still not a bad reel for the price but I was a little disappointed .

Where did it go?This thing tosses lures over the horizon. You can cast the spool pretty easily. Incredibly smooth too.

Great but mine had a quirk at firstThis reel is nuts! Gets as much distance as any of my curados. Can’t attest to durability but I’m sure it’ll be as good as the others in the SLX family. Only issue I had was the spool tension know wouldn’t tighten enough. Had to use channel locks to seat the o ring and it works perfectly now. Really weird and doubt anyone else will have this issue.

SLX 70 A < SLX 70After purchasing and fishing the SLX 70 and being very impressed, I purchased the newer SLX 70 A for another rod. Not sure why, but it DOES NOT cast as well as my SLX 70. Not sure if they switched to cheaper bearings to combat inflation without increasing the price point or what, but it does not cast like the original. Identical brake settings, etc produce very different results. I’ll probably have to buy aftermarket bearings for it now. Just want to make others aware.

Awesome!I’ve had mine for about 4 months now, it’s on my topwater rod. This thing is amazing! I have the old SLX 70 too, the new one definitely casts further (which says a lot because the old one casts far) and feels surprisingly smoother. I dig the new finish, I had it sitting next to my metanium and at a quick glance I couldn’t tell which was which. I’ll probably end up grabbing another one here in the near future, these are definitely a slam dunk, particularly for the price!

Long castsThis thing bombs lures. I have it on a 7'4" mojo bass frog rod. Casts frogs half way across the country. Great quality.

Dollar for Dollar it’s one of the Best !I met my Fed-Ex driver at the door with a big grin . I put it on top of a St. Croix Mojo 7ft medium heavy rod. Then put some Berkeley 10# fluorocarbon in. I loaded up the boat and put in a local lake. I ended up with a couple of 3lb lb and a 4 pound largemouth. I set the reel up in no time and had a fantastic no birds nest morning. I highly recommend this reel and the other SLX series reels.

Seems like an excellent reelReceived in perfect condition. Filled it with 10# fluoro and was able to adjust to easy 30 yard casts. Caught a several 1-2 pounders today and easily wound them in. This is my 1st Shimano real but won't be the last. Super smooth.
