Comments: Great rod for the price, bought the 7'4" heavy and its a great smaller swimbait rod, can easily cast over the 2oz recommended lure weight.

From: Jerrod: California 7/19/23

Comments: These SG1 series rods are the best bargain around if you're wanting a matching set of rods for technique specifics. I own six casting and four spinning rods with different applications for each rod. These rods will handle every day ware and tare but are light and sensitive enough for any type of fishing you prefers from finesse Ned rigs on the spinning to froggin and punching with the heavy 7'4 casting. These are legit.

From: Jesse: West Virginia 6/16/23

Comments: The 7'4" H is a good budget H+ rod for kayak anglers. It is rated to 2 oz but I have comfortably thrown up to 3 oz which I belive is the real upper limit to fire off a long cast without feeling over loaded. It's good for big treble hook baits like glides, rats and ploppers. Think of it as an affordable big bait kayak rod. Its very tip heavy and needs 9 oz of reel to balance out but keep the tip down and retrieve big moving baits and the rod does quite well.

Comments: The blank is only IM6, but it is light for a rod at this price point. I have the 7'4" heavy, and the rod is beastly. The combination of shear power, and soft graphite rips fish, and keeps them hooked. I really enjoy fishing this rod.

Comments: for the money, this is an incredible rod! I bought 2 of these over the last couple of months, and could not be happier! Obviously, they aren't the most sensitive rods. But if you want to get into bass fishing. this is the rod to get. Pair this with the MG casting reel, and you'll be set for a long time.

From: Derek: Texas 10/17/21

Comments: I originally go this to be an all around rod. However after using a t-rig on it, it became my favorite rod ever, great feel to it, real light, and even pleanty of back bone to boat flip a few 3 pounders. I actually broke it due to shutting it in tailgate glass but now im buying 2 more.

Comments: Over the years, i've owned a few lew's speed sticks & have loved them. i don't expect to be any less satisfied with this rod.  my order shipped quickly. i highly recommend.

From: Unknown 2/15/21

Comments: I have a few 7'4" Heavy casting rods for Rock Fishing in the ocean, mostly at Morro Bay in CA.  I match them up with an Okuma Coldwater low profile line counter reel and run straight 20 or 30 lb braid to the bait, swimbaits or whatever.  They fish 1-1/2 to 3 oz baits easily to over 200' of water as long as you're not moving too fast.  I have 2 rods with the same problem as one reviewer, the reel seat gets loose.  Only $50... so I grabbed my pliers and carefully cranked on the seat and it is not noticeable, tightened everything up.  I've also had a couple of eyes and also tips where the insert broke out.  Some was due to folks that used the rod and stuck the heavy jig in the eye because they didn't know what they were doing and I wasn't paying attention to them, surprise it busted out the ceramic.  The guides are kinda cheap but when I went to replace a few of them a whole set can cost twice as much as this rod, I just replace them with cheap eyes.  Overall I like the rod.

From: Rick: CA 11/26/20

Comments: I bought the 7 foot 3 medium heavy & have caught a few 5 pound smallmouth and also a 45inch northern pike it handle very well one of the best rods Ive used for the money

From: Unknown - 8/27/20

Comments: Bought this because I'm in college and was looking for something cheap. I've only used it once, but the rods feels like a $100+ rod. Light, extremely sensitive yet well balanced. I plan on getting another when I can.

From: Unknown: 7/6/20

Comments: Purchased the 7'4' Heavy to do double duty throwing large treble hook baits and for frogging.  The moderate fast tip works well on setting hooks with large Whopper Ploppers and walking baits but the rod still gets to its backbone fast enough to set frogs hooks.  My chief complaint is the reel seats.  I have swapped out three reels on this rod (two of which were Lews reels) and all three move/wallow around when you hook and fight a 4lber to the point I feel like I must palm the reel for added support.  Everything screws in tight, but I feel like the plastic reel seats themselves are bending under pressure and it seems to be worse on hot days when the rod is in the sun.  For $50 it is still a great rod and it probably would not be as large of a concern if I were using the medium or medium heavy models, but as a heavy rod it is intended to throw large baits on strong braid and muscle fish out of cover and I just don't feel like the reel seats are adequate for that.

From: Bill: Florida 6/5/20

Comments: Amazing rod I use the 7'4 heavy for small glide baits 6 inches and under, topwater, punching, jigs. It is somewhat sensitive too. Great rod for the price, definitely one to get.

From: Unknown: 12/12/19

Comments: The 7"4' Heavy is under rated at 2 oz!! Easily throws a BBz1 4.5oz. and 8inch Hudds 4.8 oz no problem. Paired w/ Quantum Monster 300 size reel which cancels out, the "tip heavy" feel w the smaller size reels  absolute rocket ship caster with big baits! Deal of the year, buy it!!!

From: JD: Idaho 11/9/19

Comments: I love this rod for fifty bucks the 7,4 heavy is great for a jig, texas rig and deep big cranks the first fish I caught was a solid 3 and it was flipping Matt's very happy about it

From: Zack: 9/13/19

Comments: a well-made handsome rod. I like the cork handle, not usually available at this price point. The rating of 1/8 to 1/2oz seems way too light though - it feels more like 3/8 to 1oz to me.

From: Doug 12/12/18

Comments: Tried out the Lews Laser SG1 pistol grip rod today......on a scale from 1 to 10  i'll give this rod a solid 8  for a $50 rod it is a very good general purpose rod, It has a nice feel, balanced, and the cork handle pistol grip is comfortable, nice amount of backbone for hook set  it has the smaller guides  (not micro) which i really don't care for because i use a swivel all the time and it does not fit through the small guides, but not a deal killer, My only complaint is that when you are palming the reel and cranking it in, there is a spot that rubs and irritates my finger where it touches the reel seat screw , i'm guessing all models would be the same ! All in All a good deal at $50  I am going to buy the 6'10" MH and give it a try !
