More than what you pay for!I’ve had this reel for about 2 years. You name it and i’ve done it with this reel, it is a powerhouse. Amazing drag system, amazingly smooth, and just the components that make this reel the truth!! Aluminum frame, clicking drag and spool tension, and one of my favorite the External Magnetic brakes and internal centrifugal braking. Allows me to apply very low braking and spool tension and absolutely BOMB any bait out there. This thing is built to last and is only $160 WOW. And oh yeah… i’m a shimano guy :)

Tournament mpI have this reel in the 5:6:1 gear ratio and it’s perfect for cranking. I paired it with a KVD 7.4 heavy composite cranking rod. It looks good and it’s amazing for fishing for long amounts of time.

Comments: I've had one of these for a few years now. It's been my frog reel for 90% of that time, lots of drag power and solid frame. I like the dual braking a lot, I use 1 centrifugal brake most of the time along with the magnetic. The magnetic system on this style doesn't seem quite as strong as the only magnetic brake reels. I guess it's due to how the spool is made, but it works great for fine-tuning. It's still fairly smooth after running braid catching all of the slop I throw frogs in. The quick lube port is nice on the Lews reels, and I like the combat grips too. Over all its been a great reel for me and will bomb a 1/2 oz frog!

Comments: I have one of these on my 7'11 punchin rod that I also thrown a-rigs with & use it for a buzzbait rod for musky . I've own it for three years caught countless musky and bass on it and have had not one issue. Super impressed with the quality if your looking for a reel under. 200$ this is it, better than a six or rebel

Comments: I have been very happy with this reel it has caught me many fish and is still going strong. This is a great reel for fishing crank baits and topwater. For the price you could not get a better reel.

From: Unknown: 6/17/23

Comments: This is a solid reel but not sure I like it at this price point. Essentially a regular speedspool LFS with an audible tension knob and carbonfiber drag, dual breaking system, and a rubberized pad on the thumb bar. I personally consider the aluminum main gear to be a downgrade from brass, but this seems to be the way the industry is headed. I would directely compare this reel to a custom slp. My preference being the Custom. The tighter more compact frame and more refined centrifugal brakes make it a very nice reel in a tighter package for just a bit more. But if you like the feel of the regular LFS you will likely reallt enjoy this reel as well. Must not sure it's that much of an improvement with the loss of the brass gear and price difference.

Comments: Well I've bought seven of them now, and I'm loving them all. They range from the 5.6.1 to the 8.3.1, they are just what I needed to add to my arsenal. Smooth actions, great casting, and they fit my big hands like a glove. To repeat what the other gentleman from Kathleen said, does my wife need to know I bought another one? LOL

From: Fuzzy: Kathleen FL 1/9/23

Comments: Ultra reliable reel. Hard to beat the level of performance in this price range. If you fish alot and go through reels every season and want to stay in budget it's a solid choice.

From: Brett: Unknown 7/15/22

Comments: When I first started bass fishing some 30 years ago, I started off using spinning gear because that is what I had. I soon decided to try baitcasters, so I bought some Diawa & Quantum baitcasters. I hated them. Spent most of my time on the water digging out backlashes. Even had some of my more experience buddies try to help me adjust them. I never could get them to work right, it didn't matter what rod I pair them with. So, I went back to using my old spinning gear if I wanted to fish. I ended up walking away from the sport for a few years and focused on competition firearms. A couple of years ago, decided to do more fishing again. I had already given much of my fishing gear away, so I was on the quest for some new gear. I realize that improvements to baitcasting reels have been done since I walked away from the sport, but I was not going to try Diawa & Quantum baitcasters based on my past experience, improvements or not. So, I started looking at Abu Garcia & Lew's. I purchased 2 Abu Garcia Revo's and 2 Lew's Tournament MP LFS to try out. Price point and features were comparable. The deciding factor for me was that I felt the Lew's Tournament MP LFS was smoother, quieter, and easier to adjust. They just felt "right". I own 16 Lew's Tournament MP LFS baitcasting reels in different gear ratios and have never regretted choosing Lew's. I've paired most with St. Croix rods. I can throw them the proverbial country mile with NO backlash. None. Nada. Zero. With yearly cleaning and oil, I expect that they will last for years. I suspect that they will outlast me. I have had no problems or issues with any of my Lew's Tournament MP LFS baitcasters. They work like a good baitcasting reel is supposed to.  Lew's is now my go-to for rods & reels. Are there better rods & reels out on the market? I'm sure there is. But for the price AND quality, I'll stick with Lew's.

Comments: Bought 5 last year and they are all good and working. However, they just don't hold up as well as Some of the other reels In the Lews line up. Personally I would save up the extra 50$ and get a super duty or a bb1 pro.

From: Brandon: Illinois 10/31/21

Comments: I am impressed, I own more reels than I should according to my wife, so I bought another one. Yes I bought the Tournament MP LFS in the 5.6.1 gear ratio, and what a reel it is. I have reels that cost twice as much that are not as smooth as this reel. It's paired with a 7"6 Spiral Lite rod spooled with 12lb flourucarbon for casting crank baits, and it's bombs away, outcasts all my other reels. Sorry Mom I just might have to buy some more.

From: Unknown: Kathleen, FL 8/16/21

Comments: Bought as my first baitcaster reel in Oct 2020. It took a while but I got through the learning process spooled with mono, then went braid leader. Today it seems to be ok, compared to other reels currently on my more used rods that I now favor. I kind of felt like I may have had a dud as to this day I see and feel no difference using the magnetic braking dial on min vs max, but centrifugal tabs did work well for those windy days. Good reel overall, but I plan to stick with the Shimano reels I've started to get a taste of.

From: Ray: TX 4/3/21

Comments: I don't think anyone can beat Lews in the $100 to $200 bait caster category and this one is a prime example.  Absolutely no issues, performs great, smooth, strong drag, dials in easy and holds its settings.  Exactly what I wanted from a reel at the $150 price point.

From: Bill: Florida 10/7/20

Comments: As others have stated, this reel isn't silky smooth like lew's other reels. It's not rough, but it's missing the buttery feel. Braking is easy to set up, great distance and control. It's well built and palms amazing

From: Steve: Ontario, Canada 9/9/20

Comments: Figured I try this reel since it was replacing the bulletproof mb model. Once I got it had a trip to Florida and was using it for pitching heavy plastic. Could never get the reel dialed in. Seems a little rough not as smooth as other Lews reels. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra 50 bucks on the Pro LFS. Much better all around reel imo.

From: Hmann: West Chester, PA 6/1/20

Comments: Brake system inadequate. I bought this reel as soon as it was available and spooled it with 15lb Tatsu to throw a 3/16 and 1/4 ounce under spin and 4 inch swim bait. Backlash on every cast , even with all 4 brakes turned on and dial set to maximum it still backlashes on every cast, backlash throwing in no wind, it even backlashes throwing with the wind. Sent it back to Tackle Warehouse and they replaced it immediately and I requested the same Reel. Second one is only a little better, it backlashes approximately every 4th cast. The Reel is very smooth cranking but having to turn the tension knob up so high to decrease the backlash really defeats the smoothness of the reel as well as kills casting distance. Buy a Lews Laser Reel and replace the bearings in it with Boca Ceramic bearings and you'll save money and have a better performing Reel.

From: Joe: Seguin, TX 12/10/19

Comments: Very well done Lews. This reel is a very user friendly product. Having both the centrifugal and magnetic brakes allows you to fine tune the casting. I can set it so I dont have to worry about using my thumb on the spool, and casting distance is still exceptional. A simple flick of the wrist using a roll cast produces amazing results with a 1/4oz weight and a T rigged plastic. Retrieve is smooth as silk, and the ergonomics are incredible. I would highly recommend this new reel to anyone, and this is coming from a Shimano and Daiwa user. I personally cant stand the T wing system of Daiwa as it makes ergonomics uncomfortable for me. I would rate this reel right with the Shimano SLX XT as far as performance. One of the best things about Lews is their customer service, always friendly, and always standing behind their product. That goes a long way when having confidence of the product you are buying. Again, well done Lews.

From: Matt: Florida 12/8/19

Comments: Pro - Extremely smooth. Very very easy to set up and go. Casts farther than the speed spool lfs when set up the same. Line comes off the reel smoother when casting. Drag is outstanding, very strong. knobs are nice and grippy. Con - The clicky lure weight / resistance knob has clicks so its nice to keep track of where you started, but at a certain point there isnt a fine enough adjustment for some weights. This is being very picky, as it did not cause a problem, just something i noticed. Overall this thing is outstanding, super smooth and easy to use right out of the box. The drag is strong and the unit itself is quality. I have taken the entire thing apart and im impressed with the quality of the brass bushings and sealed bearings. The castings are well done and moving parts have tight tolerances. This is a nice sweet spot for me, recreational fisherman. I get out about 3-4 times a week during fish-able months, at this price i really couldnt ask for more. It is internally different than the speed spool LFS - so the extra money is not just the knobs and some aluminum trim. I rate the speed spool LFS 8/10 and I rate this tournament MP LFS 9/10.
