Great value at this price range !I’ve used a lot of rods at various price points. High end and low end. I fish rivers for smallmouth and gave this rod a try. I have no complaints. It’s actually a very sensitive rod blank. I’ve caught a bunch of bass on this as well as the accidental catfish and carp and it’s handled just fine. I had no issues with the real seat. I think that was an issue on the previous generation. At just over $100? Its a steal.

Dogsh*t reel seatRod is sturdy like most St. Croix rods, but the reel seat is awful. Doesn’t tighten enough to keep my reel in place and will skip threads when tightened all the way down. For a rod over 100$ I shouldn’t have to use electrical tape on the threads for it to seat correctly. Im a big St. Croix fan and i assume this one is a lemon because my old model bass x doesn’t have this issue. Either way pretty frustrating.

St. Croix Bass-X 6’-10” Medium Light Ex-fIf you're buying St. Croix rods you need to do some research and know what you're getting going in. In my opinion Saint Croix rods are more moderate action rods through what I can tell their entire lineup. St. Croix's medium fast action would be other brands medium or medium light moderate fast action. I have the St. Croix Bass-X 6’-10” Medium Light Ex-fast. I have it paired to a Shimano Miravel 1000 size reel with 8lb braid to 8lb fluo. The combo bounces just before the forward grip. I got it for Rock Bass and Smallmouth fishing in the James River MO. Since then, I have used it for Ned Riggs and micro jigs for largemouth. With my old medium fast action rod, I struggled with landing bass with a jig or a Ned. A couple jumps a head shake and bye bye bass. Sound familiar? With the St. Croix Bass-X rod it loads more of the rod (moderate action) and keeps the Ned rigs and jigs pinned. Now it's a rare occasion when I lose a fish. Sensitivity is good for the price point. The tip section is very fast making it easy to see tip deflection dragging a Ned or a jig. Durability wise? Let's just say I'm a kayaker. This rod has survived multiple float trips down the James River, and multiple Kansas largemouth bass the largest being 18 1/2 inches. I've liked this St. Croix Bass-X rod so much I just ordered a St. Croix victory series rod from my bait caster.

Ok rodI have been using a 71mf for over a year and this is the 2nd time an eyelet insert fell out of a st croix. As much as i likd the rods back bone and sensitivity this quality issue makes this my last st croix I will ever buy.
