Previous Feedback

Comments: I own the 705. It is perfect for fishing 1.5 size squarebill crankbaits. Casts well and it does great with hooking and fighting fish on a crankbait.

From: Jacob: Texas 5/6/23

Comments: I throw mostly 1/2 oz. lipless and squarebills on 10-12 lb. fluoro, and the 704 has been perfect for those. I was torn between the 704 & 705, but I think I chose perfectly for fishing my local ponds as the 704 leaves nothing to be desired. It is my favorite rod in the lineup now!

From: Chris: Memphis, TN 3/9/22

Comments: The 635 is an amazing jerkbait rod with a faster tip than your average cranking rod. It also makes a great shad rap rod if you have a bfs or mgl reel.

From: Unknown: Lake Cumberland 1/16/21

Comments: The 685 is a phenomenal jerkbait rod. Perfect for fishing the Vision 110.

From: Brendon: North Carolina 1/11/21

Comments: The 806 is THE mag crankbait and A-rig rod. The rod is sensitive, light, and has a lot of power but is soft in the tip. It launches crankbaits a mile and also is a great whopper plopper rod. It has plenty of power to chuck an a-rig around and ive caught a lot of good smallies on it now. Well worth the money!

From: Brandon: Ohio 1/3/21

Comments: I bought the 705 for shallow cranking (less than 10ft). I found it to be too strong of a rod for the majority of lures that I throw in this depth. If you're fishing 1.5-2.5 squarebills, rk crawlers, wiggle warts, etc, the 705 is likely going to be too stout. I struggle to find a good fit for the 705 - too stout for all my shallow stuff, and too short for my deeper stuff.

From: Bill: TN 12/6/20

Comments: The 736 cb rod is a beast and among the best rods I have ever had. Using it to throw swim jigs, it perfect and handles big bass like a boss. The price is not cheap, but its worth every penny for that type of work. Also used it last year to hurl big topwater plugs for tailwater stripers, it was perfect

From: Unknown: Tennessee 6/8/20

Comments: I got the 806 for throwing 10XD and 6th Sense Cloud 9 25 and the Azuma Boss 25.  Unfortunately the handle is too short for me to get comfortable under forearm/elbow or into chest.  The handle is only 14 1/2 inches.  I find the 8' Daiwa Tatula Elite glass crankbait rod with a 17 inch handle or even the 7' 11" David Fritts perfect crankbait rod with 16 1/2 to be much more comfortable when pulling these very large crankbaits.  Dissapointedly I had to return the 806.

From: Unknown: 7/7/19

Comments: Got the 764 to throw Wiggle Warts and the similar baits we use so much.  Could not be more pleased.  Dobyns has never disappointed me.  They make a great product and this one is a great tool for those mid-range crankbaits.

From: Coach: Shell Knob 11/2/18

Comments: I bought the 764cb  for throwing keitechs . Also figured it be good for topwater with trebles ,110 whopper ploppers , grass burners, plopping p's, buzz jet jr.s, I-louds. It absolutely is.   It also handles chatter baits with no issue ,being more of a jig hook. My agenda was not to throw cranks . Im on the shore and most of my waters have a lot of grass. I have a doybns champion hp 746  and know the quality . I took this over the megabass emtf and i own megabass too.  This rod does everything right . Its light, super sensitive  ,very strong in the backbone ,and will toss anything over a 3/8oz a half mile . I've boat flipped ,to the shore ,5pounders no problem with 30 pound pp and a 12 pound super sniper leader.  I caught a 15 pound channel cat today with a chatter bait and the rod was  flipping  it to shore until the 12 pound broke midway  . Still set the hook great being a thicker skin than a bass. It was buried in the thicker part of the jaw. I would highly recommend this rod for a number of baits , as long as you want a more moderate action rod .  Can throw easily up to 1oz  but i wouldn't go any more, the sweet spot is around 5/8oz . NOT a frog rod. Oh yeah, it works perfect for keitechs.

Comments: Dobyns, since their inception, has always excelled at reaction bait models. The older Champion series were amazing reaction bait rods, but the Champion XPs are an improvement on what was a already a good product. The  Fuji K series guide in particular are good....my 705CB glass has the original Kigans and I've had to get it rewrapped twice now for guide inserts falling out. No such issues with the K series on the XPs.

In the XP series, I have the 805CB....it's a workhorse in my quiver. Ive fished all types of treble hooked baits on it, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, and a few others. For a rod designed specifically to fish a DD22, this thing is rather versatile. But 95% of the time, my 805 has a DD22 or similar sized bait tied on. I've fished baits in the 10XD size on it too, and while I felt it wasn't 100%, it did the job and will throw that big crankbait just fine. The key with the 805 is it's light in the hand and very well balanced (a Dobyns trademark). Paired with an appropriate reel, I can throw this thing all day. Once you get a bite, it keeps them pinned with a soft upper half while some sid butt in the lower half lets you stay in control of big fish surging at the boat. Personal best on this one is 8.5lbs, and I've caught multiple over 6 on it. If you want a rod that will absolutely sling a deep diver....and throw a Whopper Plopper, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, LV500, and small glide bait amongst others...this is your Huckleberry.

Comments: I recently got the 704 cb glass, the 705 cb glass mh-f, and the 705 cb glass mod fast.  The 704 is a very parabolic rod would be good for smaller crank baits and jerk baits. The 705 mh-f has alot of back bone towards the bottom half of the rod with a much faster tip than the mod-fast. I think it would be better for normal sized spooks, bigger square bills, dt10's, things of that nature.  The 705-mod-fast is more parabolic with a slightly slower tip. If you had the mh-f and the mod-fast side by side applying the same pressure the mh-f starts bending at about the 3rd guide up, the mod fast would be flexing down almost to the handle. I think the mod fast will suit the needs of people whole really like the rod to load up on a wiggle wart or medium diver.  Hope that helps some one looking at these rods! Or buy all 3 like I did!

From: Matt: Charlotte, NC  5/9/18

Comments: Wow... Why didn't I buy this rod months ago? Bought the Med/Hvy, paired with a Curado. Launched an LV 500 across the lake (easily 150-250 ft). Buy a crank rod when using cranks. The taper doesn;t allow easy snagging of your expensive hard-earned crank baits. I threw my $15 crank and $25 jerkbait in notorious areas of constant snagging up. The rod simply deflected these obstacles with ease. I cannot wait to land some big girls on this rod.

From: Mike: West Covina, CA 3/2/18

Comments: 765CB is a very interesting rod.  Loads reasonably well with a 1/4oz speed trap and yet lobs a DD22 a long way.   Bought it to trap fish around grass and flats but has much more in it.   Grip is relatively short yet balance is still OK.   Sensitivity much higher then avg crankbait rod. I'd call this an all purpose moving bait rod. Was lucky to catch a 4lber about 45 min after arrival of the rod in cold pond water. Handled the fish very well. Unless you like a shorter rod, I think this an nice choice for a moving bait or cranking rod as long as you are not in tight quarters.

From: Steve - Florence, KY 12/2/17

Comments: The 736 CB Glass is truly the best chatterbait rod ever built. I had been searching a long time for a good chatterbait rod. I found this and I wasn't disappointed. It has such a great parabolic bend even for a fast action. If you are on the edge about this rod don't be. It doesn't even feel like a glass rod because of how light and sensitive it is. I will definitely be buying more of these rods.

From: Unkown 6/11/17

Comments: The new 736CB is the best Chatterbait rod on the market and Gary nailed it! I have thrown Chatters, Spinnerbaits, Traps, and Football heads with a Swimbait. Very versatile and you will not lose fish. Lots of load up for a long cast and they stay hooked!

From: Justin: Vermont 5/10/17

Comments: After doing some extensive research I decided on the Champion XP cranking rod, and I dont believe I could have made a better choice.  Paired with a Shimano Chronarch MGL this setup is amazing.  A special thanks to the guys at Tackle Warehouse with the shipping support.  Shipping was delayed due to a major storm that hit the northeast, and on top of that the rod was returned due to damage during transit (never made it to me).  Tackle Warehouse had another rod sent to me that day on overnight delivery!  These guys know what customer service is all about.

From: Mark: Perryville 3/25/17

Comments: After using a variety of different rod companies, I decided to pick up a Dobyns due to the fact that it was 50% off. I always thought that the Dobyns were overpriced and over hyped. After using it I am fully convinced that these are the best rods around. Every detail of these rods are absolutely flawless. As far as weight goes they are very similar to the G. Loomis E6X. However, the Dobyns are better balanced and much more sensitive. If you have the money this is the rod you should buy over any other. The only complaint I have is that I wish the rods were a little more affordable.

From: Keith: Sacramento, CA 12/21/16

Comments: I purchased the 805CB RM Champion XP during Tackle Warehouse's Memorial Day sale. I was in bad need of a good crankbait rod & couldn't resist such a good deal. I have to say, I had NO IDEA what I was missing! This rod is AWESOME! I used it today for the first time & caught about 20 bass with it using a Strike King 3XD crankbait. This rod EASILY handles that & the 5XD & I have lots of confidence it'll do well on the larger crankbaits. The sensitivity is excellent on this rod! I paired it up with a Lew's Tournament Pro G 6.8:1 reel. Excellent set-up. If you're on the market for a dedicated crankbait rod & can budget for it I HIGHLY recommend this rod.
