Comments: I searched for quite a while to find the perfect fiberglass cranking rod...looked or fished probably 10 from 10 manufacturers.. IMO you will NEVER find a glass rods like these. look like a typical champion (not a pool cue) but the smooth parabolic arc is %$*&^*$#^ outstanding...so much fun to fish and I've never lost 1 fish on them. trust the reviews...if you're looking for a glass cranking rod don't waste any more time...this is the one

From: Bob: FOUNTAINVILLE PA 12/15/22

Comments: Purchased the 704CB and the 704CB glass.  Both seem like great rods for river smallmouth. The components are nice; blanks well finished.  The full length cork is nice but the quality of the cork is below par for a $200 plus rod; lot's of filler.  my St. Croix mojos, which are cheaper have nicer cork. Not a big deal but just thought I'd mention; hope they hold up as I get my stuff wet constantly. The 704CB glass is a little slower which is what I was looking for; I rarely cast lures over 5/8 oz and I like a rod to bend when fighting a fish. I fished the 704CB glass yesterday on a local river and it was fantastic. I mainly fished 3.3 inch Keitech swimbaits with a 1/8 oz weight on the front; this rod cast those very well and accurately. The little smallmouth even put a bend in the rod; very pleased. I use it as a general purpose rod, not a crankbait specifically. The 704CB ( carbon ) has very little movement when you give it the wiggle test; just at the tip.   The 704CB glass on the other hand, has definite wiggle; I'd wouldn't say slow though. If you're looking for a casting rod that's just a touch slower than the typical fast action, give the glass version a try. Probably sending back the carbon version as the glass version meets all my needs and it's fun to fish.

Comments: With having several Champion Rods I can highly recommend the 736CB for chatterbaits, 765CB for mid-sized crankbaits and the 805 for throwing larger deep divers and larger top water.  If you are looking for a great mid priced jig rod the 744 is a must have. Also the 702's and 703's are my main drop shot and wacky/Neko Rods that are on my boat every trip.  I wouldn't hestitate to buy any rod in the Champion line up.  Great rods, great customer service.

From: Tim: 5/10/21

Comments: If you throw Chatterbaits on braid the Champion 736cb Glass is the perfect rod.  Chatterbaits are my confidence bait and after a lot of first hand trial and error I have found that setting up a Chatterbait rig is all about getting line choice and rod action to work together probably more so than with any other bait. If you throw mono, you can use pretty much any MH fast action rod as the mono's stretch offsets the fast action. If you throw braid, you need a more forgiving tip but not the full-on moderate action bend of a crankbait rod. I started fishing a Chatterbait on a 7ft MH fast action rod with braid and would lose fish by ripping it out of their mouths before they had it good. I switched to mono on the 7ft MH fast action rod and my hookup ration increased dramatically, but I didn't like losing the sensitivity and not being able to feel the vibrations of the blade.  Eventually, and for several years, I found that an Ugly Stik Elite was a very good Chatterbait rod for braided line. Don't laugh, the glass blend of the Elite give it just enough tip to be a perfect Chatterbait rod.  Unfortunately, some shoulder issues caused me to look for a lighter weight rod than the old Ugly Stik.  I then went with a Shimano Expride 7ft 2in MH Glass for a while, but that rod just has too much parabolic bend for Chatterbaits and is more suited for treble hooks (and is now my lipless crank rod).  Finally went with Dobyns and the 736cb Glass and it is perfect!  It is labeled as a fast action, but with the glass blend it provides just enough tip to let the fish swallow the Chatterbait before getting into the backbone.  I believe the Dobyns is just a little heavier (physical weight wise) than the Expride, but when I hold them together (with equal weight reels) the Dobyns actually feels lighter than the Expride as it is a better balanced rod. I have mine pared with a Lews BB1 Pro and 30lb power pro and love the setup.

Comments: Wow what a rod! I've been using the 736 glass model now for about 6 months, and it's almost hard to believe someone could of designed such an awesome rod! I  fish CLear Lake, and I mostly throw a Dobyns 3/4 oz. spinnerbait and it's unbelievable! Casting ability 10/10. This rod loads up perfectly, and launches my bait a country mile! Casting in close quarters, you pick your spot, and it drops on a dime! Hookset 10/10. Nice tip action, and loads up like a champ! I've been in some pretty awesome battles, and the lifting power on this rod is GREAT! It's true what the other reviews say, it's hard to believe this is a glass rod, it is pretty sensitive. Last but not least is balance. Not much to say, it's a Dobyns rod, you know it has great balance. Like so many other people say, you are totally missing out if you don't own one of these rods!

Comments: I bought the 736 glass rod about a year ago. I gotta say that the reviews are right on! After using it for a while it's almost hard to believe that someone could design and build such a fine rod. Castability 10/10, the rod loads like a dream! Feel 10/10, like everyone says  It almost feels to sensitive to be a glass rod True! Power 10/10. Balance and feel are right on the money! I fish Clear lake fairly often, and had some up and down battles with some brutes, and I gotta tell ya that I am in control using this rod. Hook sets, solid! If you throw big spinnerbaits, or cranks, and don't own this rod, you are truly missing out. Going to pick up the 705 glass soon.....

From: O.Heim: Folsom CA 8/30/18

Comments: Having never used a glass rod for crankbaits before, I was eager to try one. I bought a 705CB Glass recently and I am very pleased. Haven't had the chance to catch many fish on it yet; however, the glass is really nice to dampen the vibration of the baits I am fishing on it. I have tennis elbow and it really bothers me when fishing squarebills/colorado blade baits sometimes. This rod has dampened that, along with being a major upgrade from my last cranking rod. It throws baits a long way and could be used for many different applications. I will primarily use it for medium depth crankbaits, smaller spinnerbaits, and squarebills. So far I am very pleased with how the rod has performed with these baits.

From: Unknown: 5/16/18

Comments: I have a couple of the 736 rods . I throw a bladed jig with them and think they work perfect for that . They have plenty of backbone for ripping chatterbaits out of grass and the tip seems to keep fish hooked well . I've only used these for chatterbaits but believe they will be good crankbait and spinnerbait rods as well

From: Unknown Alabama 5/8/18

Comments: The 705 CBMF is my bread and butter for squarebills and fishing walking baits in open water. My first use for it was specifically as a topwater rod, especially on spotted bass reservoirs where I feel a glass rod has the right delay that helps hook more fish. Then one late winter day I threw my squarebill reel on that rod and it was game on. Lots of Dobyns fans love the CB705 graphite, which is a great stick. But the glass model to me is almost perfect....with light braid and leader I lose very little in way of sensitivity. 90% of the time on a squares I'm gonna hook the fish within 30 yards of the boat, and the give in a glass rod is key to absorbing the surge of big fish at the boat.

I had previously used glass rods for cranking and had moved to composite blanks because of my experiences prior to going to Dobyns. My prior glass sticks were noodly and kinda toothless in controlling big fish. The 705CBMF lacks nothing in butt, it has a nice soft top but quickly moves into a solid butt with power. I don't like throwing topwater at places like the Delta on this stick, but I've landed fish up to 6 on a Spook with it on that same body of water. The Fuji K guides are a big improvement over the Kigans!

From: Chris: Lancaster 12/8/17

Comments: I bought the 704 and 736, they are incredible rods. You would never guess them to be glass because of how sensitive they are. I use the 736 for Chatterbaits and 5/6 XD's, it can handle the torque of the big cranks really well. The 704 is good for most of my square bills and lipless cranks. If you are on the edge about this rod go for it, you won't be disappointed.

From: Unknown 6/19/17

Comments: Been using the 736 for bladed jigs, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits for the whole spring and couldn't be more impressed with the rod. The delay creates solid hook ups on these moving baits, it has enough power to rip through grass, and I have not lost a fish with the forgiving glass. Highly recommended.

From: Brian: 6/1/17

Comments: Been using the 736 for about 3 months now with mostly 3/8 and 1/2 oz bladed jigs and am totally impressed - the rod loads up through the very top of the blank on the strike which results in solid hookups. Has enough tip to cast easily, the backbone to rip baits from vegetation, and light enough to use all day without tiring you out. The 736 also does a great job with larger topwater baits (Plopper 130s, etc) and 3/4 oz and up spinnerbaits so more than just a bladed jig rod.

From: G Man: Carolina Country 5/5/17

Comments: The 704CB and 704CB Glass are both great rods. If you're wondering what the differences are, let me save you some time. The glass version is more of a moderate action, compared to the mod-fast action of the graphite. While both were able to cast a 1.0 squarebill over 100 feet, I found that the glass rod did it with less effort. The way it loads is somewhere between glass and graphite so the cast is a little slower. I was able to make quicker, shorter motion casts with the graphite rod. I found the graphite to be a little more accurate but it did take more effort when throwing a 1/4 oz. bait. To me, the 704CB is a better jerkbait rod and seems better for throwing a little heavier bait (3/8+) than the glass rod. But with that being said, the 704CB Glass is an amazing rod, especially for 1/4-3/8 oz baits. It's very light, easy to throw, and an absolute blast to fish with. You can't go wrong with either one. You also can't go wrong with Dobyns. Their customer service is some of the best  I've ever had.

From: Tom M: Broken Arrow, OK 1/10/17

Comments: I got the 735XP glass to complement my 704CB graphite and 805CBRM graphite rods. Never fished a glass rod before, but just looking at the rod - you can't really tell that it is made of fiberglass! The diameter of the blank is not as thick as a broomstick versus other glass competitors. It is not as "noodly" as other glass rods from tip to mid-blank, but you do notice more "give" compared to the graphite counterparts. Yes, my other graphite Dobyns CB rods are more sensitive, so that is the trade-off. Balances close to my 805CBRM, so definitely expect to have this rod tip down when fishing it. Casts lures less than 3/8oz very well and fairly accurately, and can handle 1-1&1/4oz baits in a pinch. For deep cranking, I'd probably not go larger than a 6XD with this rod or else you will feel a little underpowered. If Dobyns made a 735CB in graphite, I'd be all over it. Still, I am very satisfied with this purchase as my first glass cranking stick.

From: Richard: Dublin, CA 11/5/16

Comments: I have both the 704 and 705. I throw the whopper Plopper 90, Xcite SB1 square Bill & yellow magic on the 704. It's the perfect rod for those lighter baits and the flex in the 704 allows the fish to eat the bait before you rip the hooks out of its mouth. The 705 MH fast (don't get the Moderate Fast model, it's too stiff ) is good for Med diving CB's like 5'-10' divers. Both rods are light weight & compare in weight to the normal Champion series graphite rods. I highly recommend the 704 be added to your arsenal.

From: Jfdawson: TX 9/8/16

Comments: these are the best crankbait rods on the market. So light & balanced with incredible action
