Comments: I bought the 8'3 medium rod a year ago but really started using it this summer (since may) in the socal harbors and surf. I must say this rod is a pleasure to fish and handles both dropshot and jerkbaits well. The rod may not be the most sensitive but I can still detect every bite and strike when making bottom contact ( I also free rig with it in the surf). When it comes to trebled lures the rod is soft enough to keep the fish pinned but has plenty of backbone to horse in the Halibut and saltwater bass I target. The rod also loads nicely and I have casted 1/4 Oz decoy TX sinkers as well as 1 oz jerkbaits and hard swimbaits. The taper on this rod goes against typical bass convention considering it handls both soft and hard baits well. However when it comes to small soft swimbaits I do like a stiffer tip. Overall I recommend this rod and look forward to adding another one to my collection.

Comments: Picked up the 7'3 1-piece (STIN731MHB) recently (surprisingly these rods are hard to find online). Well made, very light, the guides are low profile, almost micro-sized, reel-seat is good enough, beautiful rod. I paired it with a Coastal TWS, though it seems tailor made for the newer Coastal SV TW reel. Action is nice, not super fast, but not unresponsive - this seems to be what Daiwa means with the "R" action (regular). So far only used for Northern California jetty fishing off the rocks, but should be decent in the closer surf for perch and the like. Would probably also work for fresh-water as well.
