Overview

Revamped with Daiwa’s exclusive Air Guide System (AGS), the Daiwa ISLA AGS Inshore Casting Rods feature boosted sensitivity and reduced weight so anglers can extend casting distance and fish throughout the day with minimal fatigue. Built using a lightweight and balanced HVF Nanoplus construction, the ISLA AGAS Inshore Rods utilize a lightweight, slim, and powerful blank that’s reinforced with X-45 Bias wrapping to prevent twist and ovaling under heavy loads.

An updated Air Guide System technology uses carbon fiber frames that are even lighter and more durable than previous generations to improve balance and provide anglers with exceptional sensitivity. Securing your grip for hard-fighting fish with premium full cork handle grips, the Daiwa ISLA AGS Inshore Casting Rods use lightweight Air Sensor carbon fiber reel seats to enhance vibrations through the rod blank for increased feel.

Awesome RodI read the reviews and was hesitant at first. After spending time with this rod, I'm convinced many of the negative reviews are from people who either don't understand what this rod was designed for or aren't using it as intended. I paired my MH rod with a 13 Fishing Concept TX2 and 20 Ib Daiwa J-Braid x8 Grand, and it has become an incredible lightweight inshore power combo. The rod is extremely sensitive, yet once a fish is hooked it locks up nicely, giving exceptional control throughout the fight. The AGS carbon guides are incredibly smooth, and when paired with a quality PE braid-as Daiwa intended, it casts like a dream. If you're looking for a lightweight, sensitive inshore casting rod with plenty of power when you need it, the ISLA AGS is absolutely worth considering.

Great at $150 sale price.I was hesitant to buy one because of the bad reviews, but I ended up pulling the trigger and have had nothing to complain about so far. I purchased the Medium Light and paired it with my Tatula 70 to throw 1/4oz hardbaits in freshwater. A slot right above my BFS setup essentially. Caught a dozen fish the first time out so I got a good feel for the rod and it ended up being perfect for my intended use. Soft enough in the top 1/3 to keep them pinned on smaller hooks but not wimpy at all. The ONLY real negative I can think of is that it definitely doesn't feel like something I would buy at $200+. There are just too many other nice options. These seem like nice "all purpose" actions that can double-duty for treble baits or finesse applications, just with the addition of premium guides, reel seat, and overall quality in general.

AGS guides don't belong on an inshore rodThe first running guides fractured during normal use. AGS guides are made from black carbon fiber. Regret not returning the rod last August when I purchased it. Not sure if I will replace guides or just cut my losses and move on. Even at clearance price the rod is no bargain. Shame on Daiwa USA. Fooled once, but not twice.

Feels too lightMarketed as an inshore rod, but the handle is short to the point that it feels somewhat uncomfortable. The ags guides are also something I'm unsure on as they are described as being very fragile. Overall seems like a well built, light rod just absolutely not meant for any inshore fishing.

Doesn't feel like an inshore rodDefinitely agree with the other review that the rod seems to be slightly lacking in backbone. It also has carbon guide which I am unsure of because diawa has literally included a pamphlet about how fragile they are, haven't used it yet so will see how they fare. My last complaint would be that the handle is extremely short. I expected a much larger, heavier duty rod, however besides that it seems like it will great.

Isla agsJust received the ML and Heavy models in the mail. ML weighs 4.09oz and the H weighs 4.45oz . ML feels like the standard Daiwa ML/regular bend. The H feels like one of the new dual powered rods were it has the tip of a medium and the butt section of a heavy. I'll report back on the heavy rod's capabilities after some use.

Heavy feels like medium light - slowLure rating is 1/4oz - 2 1/2oz on the heavy-regular. I figured this range was too large but expected it would at least stretch up to 1oz. I wouldn’t feel comfortable throwing over 3/8oz. This rod feels like a medium light. Shocked that Daiwa even printed these specs on the rod. With that said, it is extremely light and well constructed. It feels like a high end rod. I’m sure this rod has a place.
