Comments: I have gone to these reels exclusively for my pitching/flipping/Texas rig and shaky head set ups. Once you use the larger handle it is hard to go back to a traditional reel handle. Way better leverage and you never miss the handle if you switch hands. It's super smooth and very forgiving if you miss a pitch and hit an object, like a dock you are trying to skip under. It just doesn't backlash very deep if you miss. I've never had to cut a backlash out of this reel. Own 5 of them now.

Comments: Good reel. Unfortunately, it makes a crackling sound if the tension knob is loosened too far. It works better on baits over 3/8" in weight to get more distance using 65# braid. I only use it for heavy applications.

Comments: Overall, I like the reel. I do a ton of flipping and enjoy picking this reel up every time. It is an all built, comfortable to palm, and I love the handle. My only knock is that the spool vibrates side to side if you back off the tension too much, so I don't feel like I can get the reel loose enough for my liking. Admittedly, I like my flipping reels extremely loose, so I don't fault Daiwa for it, but I may upgrade the spool bearings and see if that helps free things up.

Comments: This is the best flipping reel I have ever used. Smooth on the pitch and helps minimize entry splash. Love this reel.

Comments: It is very obvious that a lot of thought went into designing and developing this DAIWA reel... As a dedicated Pitch/Flip reel, it is PERFECT. Size, handle, knobs, drag, and gear ratios are ALL PERFECT.

Comments: Great reel. It's dedicated punch set up reel for me. Loaded with 65# braid. Oversized crankin handle is legit. The larger knobs are really easy and quick to find. Has really impressive power even at 8:1. I will get at least 1 more.

Comments: You can't beat the Pitch/Flip.. with the T-wing your line releases as smooth as butter...the retrieve is super fast on those big jigging bass. Every Angler needs one of these in your arsenal.

Comments: I was a Shimano guy until I purchased the (original, red) Diawa Fuego's years ago. They cast a mile, drags were strong and I really liked the simplicity and functionality of the cast control features. My next purchase were Lexa's, and I was pleased to find the same features and fish-ability! I couldn't backlash my Fuego's or Lexa's, and that made purchasing the Tatula and easy decision. It's an outstanding Pitch/Flip reel. As others have commented, it's really versatile and casts a mile. I fish mostly clear water lakes, so I loaded it up with 20# braid and line capacity is a non issue. Everyone has their favorites, and there are many options available, but I'd definitely recommend giving this reel a try - it definitely improved my fishing.

Comments: I'm super happy with this reel because it brought me another level of flip casting capability. I'm a beginner and practicing flip cast with rubber plug regularly, but I'd been struggling with accuracy, distance, trajectory and of course, backlash with Shimano 21 Scorpion DC and Lew's BB1 Pro. This reel entirely changed my experience of flip casting. Optimal for pitching/flipping is not for ads, but real. Also, I use this reel for general use, that is, I throw lures for long cast as well. The brake system which is optimal for short range cast, actually doesn't influence long cast as far as I perceive. If you go with mono or floro, line cap might not be enough but with braided(say 30lb), should be enough at least for bass fishing.

Comments: I've been a shimano guy for many years and couldn't be told anything else but decided to try this Diawa out as I like some features . After getting the reel and flipping with it I will now be getting another one as it's smooth , the handles and knobs make getting the fish in the boat an ease . Also the spool is setup perfect for close encounter fishing as you donât have to put a whole spool of line on it so the title of the reel fits it perfectly

Comments: Normally I don't stray from Shimano but this is the best jig/t-rig reel that I have used in this price range. Love the handles and love how smooth the reel is.

Comments: I love this reel! I have it on a St. Croix Bassx heavy fast action rod and couldn't be happier. If I have one negative it would be the reel handles, the foam is very comfortable but also seems to be a little delicate. Overall, beautiful reel, I went ahead and bought another one.

Comments: This reel performs flawlessly. It has a gear engage function that works by lifting up on the thumb bar( the same a casting) that saves alot of time and energy when punching mats. It gets you on the fish for the instant bite.I love the power handle as well. A great buy by Daiwa. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone.
From: Mike: North Charleston, SC 7/19/21
Comments: Ideal frog reel. 50lb braid works well. A solid workhorse of a reel. No issues so far. The two position thumb bar is a big plus. Recommended.

Comments: I have a bunch of brands of reels, this Is my first diawa. Awesome reel no complaints. Still prefer my concept Z over this for the ease of pitching.
From: Wes: Fort Worth, TX 6/19/21
Comments: This reel is a great choice for Pitching and Flipping, but also for all around smooth operation. Great value for the price. Would recommend this for your next purchase.

Comments: Daiwa Tatula line yet again comes through with another awesome reel. This thing will allow you to pitch a bait a mile and flip with precision. The drag is silk as Daiwa always seems to come through on. Handled my pb smallmouth 6lb 2oz with no problem at all! I've tried weights from 1/8oz up to 1 oz so far and have yet to have any trouble whatsoever, I will be purchasing another really soon!

Comments: I purchased this reel over a month ago and had not really had a chance to give her a proper test until this past Saturday during our club's first tournament. I ran this reel (8.1) with 15lb Invizx for 1/4-3/8 oz jigs on a Dobyns Champion 744FH XP. The first fish I caught weighed about 5 and this reel absolutely manhandled that fish all the way to the boat with no issues. The second fish I caught was about 4 1/4 and same thing not a single problem cranking it all the way to the boat. My last fish (ND has a three fish limit) was 6.28 and was the big fish of the tournament and same result as above, no issues. Once you adjust the spool tensioner and brake to where you are comfortable this reel will do the rest. I was flipping and pitching a 3/8oz jig into tight areas with relative ease. If you're looking for a powerful reel for flipping and pitching...this is it!

Comments: Awesome reel, super smooth, super powerful, let's you crank those fish out of cover fast 10/10 would recommend for a flipping/punching setup.
From: Dalton: Texas 1/5/21
Comments:Soooooo smooth. Has done everything for me from 3/8th oz jigs at lay downs to 1 1/2 oz punch weights. Fished this side by side with a Steez, and you couldn't tell the difference. Will be picking up 2 more of these to add to the arsenal. Works just as well with heavy flouro as it does 80# maxcuatro.
From: Lincoln: Minnesota 1/3/21
Comments:Great reel. Handle is awesome. A well put together reel that does exactly as advertised. It flips and pitches with ease and has really good torque to pull those fish out of the cover quickly. Well done, Daiwa.
From: Rick: Shuqualak, MS 12/31/20
Comments:Really, really smooth and I own a Steez. It's hard to tell them apart if you're flippin. Daiwa has a homerun here.
From: Mark: Texas 12/28/20
Comments: I have tried pitching and flipping with all kinds of different reels that I was never truly happy with, till now. This reel is awesome! It makes pitching a breeze. Its tough, strong, and a very nice weight. I've easily added another 10 to fifteen yards to my pitches. I didn't mess with the spool tension, and I was able to set the brake down to 3 without issue using a 3/4 oz jig. I will flat out be buying another one soon.
From: William 6/30/20
Comments: Smoothest reel I've used yet, even better than my Curado DC. Will be buying my Daiwa reels in the future
