Just okayI have had this reel for a few years now, just bought it to save some money over my typical purchase of the tatula 150. I was using it for light duty cranking and so far haven't had any issues and was a smooth reel.... that is until I finally took it apart for maintenance and cleaning. Keep in mind I've probably used it a handful of times so no wear and tear at all. After cleaning, regressing/oiling, and assembly I noticed a noise immediately. So naturally I took it back apart, and didn't really see anything wrong. I put it back together and still there was a noise. After another breakdown, come to find out that the spool is machined too small for the bearing under the cast control knob side. I tried other bearings from reels I've salvaged from. Called daiwa and they send me a new spool for free(great service). But the issue is the same with the other spoolas well. From the factory my guess is that there was just enough of grease for it to catch the inside of the bearing and spin the bearing instead of the spool shaft spinning inside the bearing and the bearing staying put. I would take caution on buying this budget reel. A simple fix I used to not just throw away $70 reel was to wrap the shaft in about a wrap and a half of aluminum ducting tape. Problem solved but knowing that now I'll be going back to exclusively buying the tatula 150s. This doesn't scare me away from daiwa and neither should it from you but I would step up to another model.

Great reelI have 2 of these and am currently ordering another. Nice and smooth. Has the feel and performance of a $100+ reel and I've noticed that no matter what site you're on, academy, TW, dicks etc. this reel has a five star rating. Enough said.

Great Reel and InexpensiveI have four of these now. 12, 14, 16 lb. Sunline Mono Jungle Green has worked great (smaller diameter for lb. test) so far, trying 20 lb. in same line now for bigger fish, we'll see and I'll reply back. The reel is smooth, casts great, drag is good...no issues. I am upgrading from 20+ yo old reels, but well taken care of, and these are doing the job for my kind of fishing. I have a couple more older reels to replace and those rods will have one of these reels on it, soon.

small but mightyfor this price I have no problem loading the deck with them. they have the same solid casting abilities that many Daiwa reels have. Maybe not as bulletproof as a higher end reel but they are not higer end reels. If your looking to save a few bucks and still have a great fishing experience, get a couple of these. They make great gifts to new anglers too.

Great reel for the money.I have had a Diawa CC80 for around 4 years now. This reel has been on some of my often used rods and I have had great luck with it. The casting and drag performance are decent, but most importantly for this price range the reel really holds up. I've landed big northern pike, musky, and 5+ lb smallmouth with this reel and it has never skipped a beat. Great for a lower priced kayak rod where I don't want to bring out my Tatula or Shimano. It's also nice and compact. I've killed several other casting reels since I've owned this and it's still going strong.

Lovin' ItGreat reel for the price. I use it for tournament fishing and it stands up to a full day of Fishing. I am by no means a wealthy guy, so this fits my budget perfectly. I use it for most of my soft bait set ups.

Can't Beat $70 Quality ReelThis is a great reel for $70. I've taken excellent care of all my old (>25 yo ones) bait casters and the drag on all of 'em is well, they're old. Thought I'd check these out as they're highly recommended and so far, all is very well with them. I have two now and am thinking about replacing more of my older ones with this model. I'm currently urysing 12 lb. Sunline Mono with them and everything is fine. Will be trying 14 lb. and probably up to 20 lb. mono in near future and maybe even dropping one to 10 lb. mono and seeing how that works. I'll be back to update review over time.

Comments: I used to find these reels at a local major sporting goods outlet but they've stop carrying it. So convenient to order from Tackle Warehouse with fast delivery unless a back order item. These reels kick butt for the price fishing like $100+ reels. I have at least five that I regularly fish with along with some Tatulas. Left AbuGarcia for Diawa and never looked back. Keep punching out these great reels Diawa.

From: Bob: Lake Palestine 6/19/23

Comments: Honestly I feel like this reel is good for the price. I have had mine for almost a year now and have used it quite a bit and it still casts flawlessly like it did when I bought it. It casts extremely well for the price point; I never have problems backlashing. The drag is silky smooth and handles larger fish without a problem. The only problem I have ever had from this reel is that from the first fishing trip, the reel handle started catching a little every time the worm gear reached the far left. That has been SO ANNOYING while I'm reeling in a bait. If I knew how to fix it I would definitely keep fishing with this reel. It's been great other than that.

From: Ben: Mississippi 5/17/23

Comments: Seriously, just as good as anything in the $99-120 range...without a question. This real 100% out performs reels twice it's MSRP. What sucks is that they are only offering the 7:1 now...had to venture out and find the 6:1 models. I've used mine (4 of them) from topwater, to the smallest squarebills and everything in between. Honestly, no issues to speak of after a year and a half. BUT even if one gives out tomorrow, I am out much, much less than other reels. Seriously just add to cart and don't look back. I promise you will buy more.

Comments: update , this is a great reel , i've caught a few 4 and five pound bass on it and had no trouble whatsoever it's been going strong for maybe three or four yrs now and no maintenance done not even oil but i guess it's time , since this reel i wanted another one but i found the Shimano SLX 115 on sale for $75 i think it usually runs about $99 but it's awsome also very smooth casting and retrieving but haven't had a chance to catch a fish on it yet , anyway i switched my Diawa over to my heavy frog rod and going to use my SLX for texas rig and such but both reels have big handles and are geared the same 7 5 1 i may switch the reels according to how they feel under heavy use as far as heavy hook sets , love these tackle warehouse sales , they just take to long to deliver but i am in southeast N.C.

From: tad: nc 2/22/23

Comments: Great reel. I had previously never used a bait caster. Watched a couple YouTube videos on how to set the reel up to avoid backlash. Easy adjustment and setup. Highly recommend this real

From: Dale: Illinois 8/10/22

Comments: i purchased the cc80 Diawa because it was on sale , i have spinning reels by Diawa and they're great reels great quality at a great price , i set my new reel up with 30 lb braid with and the drag almost locked down and so far i've caught half a dozen fish with it and one 3 lb and a few 2 lb so nothing major but it cast great very seldom backlash gear ratio is good , i would like to have one more for my frog rod , very nice reel for $60. only time will tell about durability

From: Christopher: NC 6/30/22

Comments: i received my Diawa cc 80 in the mail slapped it on a 7 ft mh Lews speed rod played with it a few minutes with a texas rig and tuned it for that weight and it cast great i only backlashed it a couple times before i got it set right , i love it , it's a great real light weight low profile cast great reels in fast 7.5.1 gear ratio is nice i only wish i would have gotten another one.

From: Unknown: North Carolina 6/18/22

Comments: I have 3 of these reels now. They are great all around reels. I have used them for 2 years and still cast like new. I think they are as good as reels that sell for twice as much!

From: Guy: Kutztown, PA 3/13/22

Comments: Great budget reel. I've got everything from budget to luxury reels, this is one the nicer budget reels. Feels better in hand for me than Abu Max reels, and while l prefer an SLX that is a different bracket, so unfair comparison. This CC80 is decently smooth, easy to set up, and bombs 1/4oz + lures nearly as far as my $350 Zillion, lol. Obviously the Zillion is a much sturdier reel and I expect it to hold up better and longer, however for light to mid duty jobs CC80 should last a season or two. I use mine as a banger reel when I fish places that are rocky or covered in thick brush, no worries if it's scratched or damaged. Overall i recommend it.

From: Leonard: Iowa 2/22/22

Comments: Bought two last year and they broke very often. They are very nice for about 2 weeks but then they start to break down. both of mine are missing pieces right now because they broke. I am a fan of the diawa tatula though.

From: Unknown 7/6/21

Comments: Smooth reel, nice quality. Cannot beat this reel for the price.

From: Unknown: Bayou Blanc, LA 3/14/21

Comments: 10 out of 10! Very smooth and works perfect for every technique!

From: Unknown: 1/29/21

Comments: Cast smooth has nice drag reel felt great till it last.. 2 bass and the spool broke and now it just slips wish the spool was better quality.

From: Junior G: Hawaiian Gardens, CA 1/17/21

Comments: Wish they would produce one with a t wing , but with it being lite, small, it's a good addition to the collection . cc line are great buy for budget buyer's.

From: Carl: Gilroy 12/5/20

Comments: I bought 2 of these reels a month ago. Exceeded my expectations by far. Long casts and smooth drag...huge bargain for $60! Would definitely buy more as need be.

From: Guy: Kutztown 11/12/20

Comments:I absolutely love this reel. Its small, light weight, and works as advertised. It is not the best at anything (reminder it costs $60) but it is really good at everything. I will admit that I'm not a high end fishing gear kind of guy, but I am very much so a quality and "bang for your buck" kinda guy. This reel checks every box I needed it to.

From: Josh: Calremont, CA 10/27/20

Comments:If you are looking for a reel that casts like a $200 reel, then this is not the reel for you. You would need a $200 reel. That being said, for $60, you can't get a better reel. This thing is a true workhorse. I don't have to maintenence it, yet it holds up so well. I love the braking system, and it casts super smooth. Hands down a great value reel.

From: Alex - 10/16/20

Comments:I bought this reel from Walmart almost 4 years ago. Let me start off by saying I have abused and never oiled or greased this reel and it has performed flawless. I have fished nothing but 30lb braid on it and never had a problem until I broke the gears setting the hook on a 4lb bass that was also wrapped under a branch. For 4 years of use with no maintenance I'd say I got my $60 out of this reel. I 10/10 would recommend this reel.

From: Travis: Alabama 4/17/20

Comments:Reel is cheaply built and backlashes a lot. It's a piece of junk, don't buy it.

From: Unknown: 3/15/20

Comments:Ive had alot of expensive reels in the past, and i can tell you for the money you cant beat these reels. I now own 4 of this exact model with both ratios. It feels good in the hand, really smooth, low profile & very easy to get tuned in. If your looking for a good budget reel, i would highly recommend this one.

From: Jay: Louisiana 2/22/20

Comments:People are saying this reel feels cheap, it's 60 dollars.... For 60 I would definitely buy another.

From: Dan: 12/27/19

Comments: First impression? Feels like a piece of cheap plastic and almost feels like it wants to fall out of your hands. But that feeling wares quickly. Casting? It's not steez but it sure can cast. The drag is good enough and I have caught tons of LMB up to 3 lbers with no issues. Just keep in mind it's 50$! You just can't beat it. so I would definitely recommend it

From: Olam: Florida 12/25/19

Comments:This reel is legit. Run mine with straight braid as a topwater reel. Been very reliable. The casting distance is incredible. Id recommend this to anyone. The good fellas over at Tactical Bassin also recommend this reel as their top choice for an inexpensive bait caster.

From: T: Oklahoma 12/15/19

Comments:Reel felt cheap and plastic-y out of the package. The initial performance was good, smooth, far casts, but I was worried about durability. After pretty limited use for 2 months the anti-reverse is stripped out. Went to set the hook on a nice fish, gave my the worst backlash of my life. Stripped the line off and put new line on and the same thing happened. Reel is junk don't buy it.

From: Tyler: Wisconsin 10/31/19

Comments:Bought one as a backup. Wow, very smooth after oiling, cast smooth with good distance, solid and nice handles. I own other reels that cost three times more, and this is a $150 reel at half the cost. I will be buying more. Hard to believe you can buy a reel this nice for the price.

From: Kerry: TX 10/10/19

Comments:I have 3 of these reels and they are amazing. You can cast a country mile with them and they are extremely light for a $60 reel. I definitely recommend these reels for anyone on a budget. The reels have a really nice low profile feel in your hands making it easy to palm while flipping and pitching. I have caught a few nice 3 pound largemouth and a 3 pound channel catfish on these reels and they have held up amazingly.

From: Grant: Illinois 9/28/19

Comments:This reel casts smooth and a long distance. Using it for a spinnerbait reel and it works great. Hauls in some big northern pike too. Excellent reel for the price you pay. Daiwa makes reliable stuff.

From: Kirk: Illinois 9/20/19

Comments:Bought this reel as part of a "close out sale". Reel was garbage upon opening. The spool is jerky and inconsistent, the eye the line feeds through does not move at all while reeling. The autocast button does not re-engage when you start to reel because of the issue. Something in the gears has to be messed up. All the reviews I've read are either fake posted by TW personnel or they are giving away their trash in close out sales and I got unlucky.

From: Joe:Akron, Oh9/13/19

Comments:I got one of these reels with a St. Croix rod/reel combo deal. This reel is absolutely fantastic for the price. I'm currently running 8lb flouro casting 3/8oz and under baits on a medium St. Croix Reign rod. Its perfect. The only issue i've had is that my line got caught between the spool and the housing a couple times. Though, I should add i'm using seaguar invizx with a diameter of .009 inches, which is quite small. This has only happened twice out of several hundreds of casts, and likely during a backlash. So with a little thicker line you shouldn't have that problem. Also, backlashes have been extremely rare. I would definitely recommend this reel if you want a comfortable, smooth, lightweight, missile launcher of a reel. It puts $150 reels to shame.

From:Andy: Michigan 8/2/19

Comments:I am usually a bit skeptical when purchasing a baitcast reel for $60. That said, I gave the cc80 a thorough test run and I must say, great reel for the price! As Houston suggested in a previous review, I opened her up and put a couple drops of oil inside & around all the moving components. Wow! Casts a mile, smooth as can be, and when set properly, zero backlash! If your on a budget and looking for an exceptional reel for the money, then you've found your reel!

From:Steven, CA 6/20/19

Comments:This is one sweet reel ! Don't have to take out a loan to buy, and all I can say is this reel is amazing . I will buy more. It cast like a dream, smooth, and great distance on your cast with out having to whip it. Just buy one and you will see for yourself.

From: Jason:Wisconsin:4/8/19

Comments:This reel is a little tight but oil it up and its butter. It casts hella far and handles fish well. Biggest fish I've caught on it has been a 5 and it handled it with ease.

From: Hutson - Memphis, TN 4/3/19

Comments:I use nothing but Daiwa rods and reels, all the way back to the late 70's. I bought this one to test it out because of the price range but it is as good as any of my Tatula I bought at a much higher price. You cannot get a better reel for the money. It cranks, throws and has enough muscle to bring in a good fighting largemouth or spot as good as any of my $200+ Daiwa reels.

From: Rick:Talladega Alabama3/25/19

Comments:Smooth as can be. Didn't expect this reel to be of the caliber that it is. I was skeptical of testing Daiwa products after being a Lew's man for so long... but let me tell you this Daiwa CC80 is the most versatile reel in my rod locker. Thank you Jeffro at the Quicky Mart for referring this reel to me and thank you Daiwa for providing a reel that wheels and deals like this one!! Tight lines everyone. Especially with the Daiwa CC80.
